I'm looking forward to watching this after Doctor Who next week.
I think we should be sure to cast the best looking guy as Joseph, because he does bugger all singing anyway and he spends a while in Potiphar's jail topless.
The narrator is going to have to be amazing - she sings well over half of the show.

Oh, the website http://www.bbc.co.uk/joseph makes no mention of casting the narrator role - shame, they said they were going to do that in the press release last year. Boo.

I was the narrator (but it ws a shared role between 4 people). I still know all of the songs! Isn't this supposed to be up against 'Grease is the word' on ITV1?

They're running at the same time, which is fucking stupid, though I don't know whether they'll be shown in exactly the same time slots. M guess is that Grease'll be on against Doctor Who.
Joseph is so much better than Grease, though I might be against the general viewing public in this belief.
Why isn't Joan Collins a judge on Any Dream Will do? She played Potiphar's wife in the tv version, that qualifies her.

Grease is crap but the songs are catchier.
That's why I can't see myself getting excited about this show in the same way "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?' worked so well. It was the things like the group performances and this sing-a-long nature that made it which was down to the fact it was a musical where the songs are very recognisable.
The show was great because of this kind of thing, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiAY7J-uoKU
With the The Sound Of Music's songs you can create a Saturday night entertainment show, the same with Grease. However I'm not sure you can with a musical like Joseph. We'll see.

I'm questioning my statement now that I've said it! Grease does have amazing songs and a great look to it. I think it's because I've never seen it the whole way through at once that undervalues it. I've seen it all, just not in one sitting. Also, everyone goes on about how great Grease is, and there's always a pink lady at a fancy dress party, so unlike Joseph it suffers overkill.

It always disturbs me that people show Grease to children.
I didn't watch it all the way through until I was 13, and although the songs/ clothes/ dance routines are a great, I just wanted to shake Sandy violently, I mean don't become a whore for some guy who might give you VD.
That said there are some odd lines in Joseph. When we were doing it in school no one could understand why I found the line 'It takes a man who knows no fear to wrestle with a goat' so funny. Also: 'No one comes to dinner now... We'd only eat zem anyhow...' and 'Benjamin is honest as coconuts' make me laugh. But all in all, it's a less corrupting influence on children.

My favourite line isn't in the movie!
'Go go go Joseph, fight till you drop! (We've read the book and you come out on top)'
They change it for some tat about a marquee.
The bit in parentheses always makes me laugh. I also love the baker's wish for the reading of his dream - "like 'is would be nice!", pointing at the butler.

I'll be intrigued to see if there's a Joseph equivalent for that. So amazingly cruel, and yet so brilliant.

There is a song called Stone The Crows. Taking a literal reading would be amazing.
Or Close Every Door would also be lyrically relevant. Except it'd be Close Every Door, except for the one behind which stands Andrew Lloyd Webber clutching a contract for We Will Rock You, or the one behind which John Barrowman stands with a bottle of poppers and the promise of a three page splash in the tabloids.

I'm not a huge fan of Joseph. When I saw it in the West End I thought it was too long with too few songs. And I hated the way they repeated the title song about 10 times. Grease is a lot better all round. It's funnier too.
