Actually looks interesting, but it'll probably the usual old stuff about cottaging and Gaydar.

There's an interview with Kevin Elyot about Clapham Junction ***here***.

It looks very weighty - I'm not sure I could handle it on a Sunday evening.

And of course there'll be complaints that it deals with the seedy side of sex, but then it is about gays. If they were going to make a drama based on the lifes of my gym going smug married friends and their trips to Ikea and bathroom refurbishments I doubt I'd watch.

You have married friends who go to the gym? Most of my friends seem to regard an engagement ring as a Get Out of Jail Free clause from their contract.

I do hope this season is a little bit better at showing the diversity of the gays.

I remember a younger me being quite shocked and disheartened after watching a documentary on 4 called The Truth About Gay Sex, which focused mainly on fisting and cottaging.

I don't think they've signed anything official yet and had a gathering with nibbly things and cava, but they're smug marrieds regardless. Actually, they might be sham smug marrieds as I clicked on a gaydar profile several months ago which featured a couple looking for more, in the part of the city they live, the same ages, hair colours and heights as them. It made my skin crawl a little bit.

It's good to see the press has moved on in the past 40 years! Mind you, in the olden days this would have been front page. Now it's a single column on page 36. No pics on the link but in the paper there's one of the man as a minister and again from gaydar in comedy leather cap.

I can see this being both amazing and awful in equal measure.

Here's hoping it's shows the real Clapham experience: i.e. down the Two Sewers of a Sunday watching Lola Lasagne and Pam Ann do the same routine for the 27th week in a row. Hurrahz.

If they want to make it extra topical, they should be sure to mention The Sewers actually smelling just like two sewers following the smoking ban.

This actually looks like really quite an interesting C4 'season'. The one about the old gays looks basically amazing, and plus the 50s docudrama thing has That One From Emmerdale in it which should be worth a look.

I saw the trailer for the Clapham Junction drama yesterday and got very excited about Paul Nichols being in it. He'd better bloody get his kit off!

I pulled the 'Friendly Bacteria' man from the Yakult adverts in the Two Sewers, once.

I read his name as Paul Nicholas yesterday, and did not comprehend the amazingness of it all. Paul Nicholls, gaying, on tv. Brilliant.

Adrian:
I'm afraid you have to insert 'bash' into your 'gay_ing', unless what I heard about the character was wrong.

I *love* the look of he wot used to be in Emmerdale:

http://www.channel4.com/health/microsite....ex-scandal.html

Tasty!

Also, I think Heat mentioned today that Paul Nicholl's character is a guy who looks after his Gran all day but prowls bars looking for a good time at night. Brilliant!

But what about Granny Nicholls? Surely she needs help at night as well....

Just give her her tablets crushed up in jam and she'll be no trouble.

I wonder if James Wilby and Rupert Graves get it on again, 20 years later.

I mainly want to see the A Very British Sex Scandal cos it's got Orlando Wells in it who is adorable and was in As If (also playing a gayer) and The History Boys play later in the run (incedentally, also a bit of a gay character). I'm seeing a trend here.....
According to something I read today, Paul Nicholls gets his cock out in this. All the others seemingly used prosthetics but Nicholls' is all real and lovely.
Are you sure? That's where I read it. Maybe it was wishful thinking.

The more I read about this, the more it sounds annoying. I'll reserve judgment.
