I've just watched it again, and didn't realise yesterday that when Rose "disappeared" from the street, there was a Tardislike noise. The possibilities...

However cute the Adipose children are I'm sure that the adults are as dangerous. I'm hoping we get see them soon.

I really enjoyed last night's episode which I watched for the first time with my mother. As a fan Catherine Tate's she kept asking if it was meant to be funny and telling me that she couldn't take her seriously in it. Overall I think she liked it and both of us were in stitches at the hello through two windows seen. Sarah Lancashire was spot on too, making it all quit a good 'watch with mother' episode.

I want an Adipose. They were adorable.

I really enjoyed the episode. I don't think it'll be on my list of favourite episodes ever or anything, but it was a great romp that did everything it needed to, and the signs are good for Donna. I like the fact that she's a mixture of excited and disgusted at the prospect of intergalactic travel - I think I'll be able to get on board with that attitude far more than Martha's and Rose's breathless wonder (although I liked Martha and Rose, don't get me wrong).

Rose's return at the end was a big WTF - I knew she was coming back, but I didn't realise it would be this soon. I'm really intrigued to see how she's going to tie into the series arc.

The only extra thing I'd have liked to have seen in the episode was the Doctor and Donna made to sit on some kind of naughty step.

The ratings were good, apparently:

I'm glad the time shift didn't make a difference.

I was pleasantly shocked also. It was a nice payoff for avoiding spoilers as much as possible despite sometimes impossible odds (the Torchwood ending was revealed from the lowculture newsfeed on my phone coming home Friday night).

The first episode was fun and light, but I was still quite disturbed by the sound of the car squishing Adipose and the missing prologue.

I always forget how nice it is to watch Doctor Who until it starts again.

....apparently the Rose scene wasn't in the version that was shown at the press launch so thats why nobody spoiled that one.

The Rose scene nearly made me do a sex wii (even though I guessed it was her just before she turned round).

I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. Catherine Tate was great and there were a lot of laugh out loud moments, particularly the miming when the Doctor and Donna are reunited.

I really want an Adipose, especially the one who was skipping down the street.

I'm surprised they didn't have Adipose toys ready to go the next day. There is obviously great demand.

I was on the [former] OG boards last night looking at peoples' children's responses to the episode. All the kids wanted cuddly Adiposes and lots of teenies (5 and under) apparently waved at them and thought they were adorable.

I want to borrow a three year old to rewatch it with now.

I haven't heard of any being scheduled but then I doubt Doctor Who has a plush contract with anyone yet. Next up are figures for The Wasp & The Unicorn and The Sontaran Stratagem. Agathie Christie action figure ftw!

I think if the Adipose toys had been ready to go the Mail might have been "up in arms" about the BBC's cynical exploitation of children.
DOCTOR WHO USED TO EXTORT MONEY FROM PARENTS or similar.
I think we'll have to wait until just before Christmas.

I'm surprised no-one picked up on the visual nod to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. The Adipose spaceship was exactly the same...

Anyway, I thought it was a good opener. Not great (a bit too child-friendly for me), but it set things up well - especially with Rose.

I have to say I'm not really a Who fan - but this series certainly has me more excited than previous ones. Don't know why....
