So apparently Laurel and Ashley's baby is going to die. According to Wikipedia, anyway.

As confirmed by the Mirror's We Love Telly, llamagirl! Thats rubbish, I much prefer Laurel when shes happy.
I realised on Thursday where my deep, deep love and appreciation for Emmerdale comes from: it was the fact that the writers were cutting between scenes of Betty, Pearl and Edna getting all forthright over their fruitcake skills with Nicola plotting to kill her aged husband. Quite wonderful.

There are so many depressing, stunt-driven stories on now, but I was surprised at how moving the episode was. I think Laurel did it for me. The scene where Laurel told the doctor she knew her baby was dead and to leave Daniel alone so she could hold him in her arms one more time, the scene where she told her mother how much her heart was hurting...the actress was just phenomenal and I don't think I will forget those scenes for a long time. There were some other lovely moments, like Shadrach singing "Daniel" to the baby boy early in the episode (Daniel waving goodbye), and later talking about all the schemes he was going to cook up with Daniel. Ashley's reaction when they said Daniel had died. Ashley shutting his father up.

Nicola plotting to kill her aged husband. Is probably the greatest thing in soapland today.

Matthew Bose is happy to have primetime soap's first gay wedding. tinyurl.com/ynlyl4Bose is a bit wooden, but I like Paul and Jonny, I think they're a sweet couple. I can't blame him for hating that triangle with Grayson, it was one of those ideas that may have made sense on paper but was awful with the characters involved and also with their lack of chemistry.

I can't watch Nicola's potential murder victim husband without being transported back to vintage St Ivel Gold adverts. Does anyone else suffer the same affliction?

In this story claiming the Emmerdale cast is unhappy with the new producer, we learn Grayson and Jonny have been let go: www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/a92574/emmerdale-stars-unhappy-with-new-chief.htmlI think it was well past time to write Grayson out, but I liked Jonny. I'd probably have rather he stayed than Paul. They could have at least written Jonny and Paul out together, since I can't see Paul being around that much longer.

Most of the cot death/baby switch storyline has been really well done, some superb performances from the actors who play Laurel and Ashley. The scene from Wednesday or Thursday where Betty just about begged Laurel to fight for her child, or the child would eventually come to find his birth parents and want to know why they didn't want him, was probably the best soap scene all year. The custody results with that Kate Bush song in the background was almost as good.

As someone who grew up eating his beans on toast at teatime whilst watching Emmerdale and Crossroads this is a shock that will only be matched by Frazer Hines, Miss Diane and Benny carking it.
Gutted, Jack and his cap were a big part of my growing up.
