This made my week. Mother couldn't understand why I found it so funny, meh to her. The way she said it was made it brilliant. It was just ace. Acer than base.

Perhaps not quite pop-culture, but Roy's well-thumbed-Trollope quip simply has to be immortalised here.

Blanche said "Mel C, Sporty Spice!" last night. I'm a Melanie fan, so that was ace.

Tracy Barlow, speaking to her real dad, said "When mum and Ken were arguing I'd go upstairs and listen to my tapes"
Genius! A pop culture reference to themselves! Masterful!

Hail the script writer who named Sean's dead dog.
* In waily voice*
"Oh Shandy, you came and you gave without taking."
They should feel very proud of themselves for that.

I loved how that farcical funeral was an immense foreshadowing of the farce that will be Tommy's funeral.

Oh last night we had references to Busted and Geri Halliwell. Thinking of developing a drinking game around the context of this thread that can be played while simultaneously watching the corrie omnibus.
Judging by the frequency with which they keep dropping in these references I have feeling it will make for a very messy Saturday afternoon.
Incidentally, Is anyone else in light of this thread cheering out loud everytime one of the characters mentions anything to do with pop culture now or is it just me?

"What's she doing with that other woman?"
"How do they get their skin so shiny?"
And, as a piece de resistance.
"I want to be back there, dancing to Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes."
I laughed to hard at that last one that it conclusively proved my heart had been replaced by a stone.

A few years ago, as a young lad, I loitered around the rec.arts.tv.uk.coro-street USENET group. The folk there were convinced that as they would get much excited about scripting stuff in Corrie, the writers would read this and play it all up with giddy abandon.
I'm certain this is happening with pop cultural references.

It's sort of pop culture:
BLANCHE: "Tracy, when my time comes, please don't choose to announce my demise with a bleep-bleep. Do me the courtesy of a proper phonecall."

Violet being told of Katy's death via text message was one of the funniest things I've seen in soap this year. I know, it was just so wrong. Who texted her? It can't have been anyone who wasn't more than a few yards away, that could have just walked across the road. Maybe Katy wrote a text saying "I'm dead now" before she overdosed and, in a secret letter we didn't see, instructed Martin to send it if she popped her clogs.

Especially brilliant, given that she said (I'm paraphrasing here), "Will you two shush worrying about other people's lovelives? I'm trying to watch Trisha!"

I hearted Corrie last night. No particular reason other than the writing it magnificent compared to other soaps at the minute. I loved that Kevin felt the teapot and sussed Sally'd been up for ages and that Craig broke the eggs and had a sob and it's just all very well observed.
I am also loving Claire. She's such a dweeb. She's like a real person or something.
Corrie: the sky is your oyster.

Coronation Street does the soap conceit of Random Pairing of Two Characters so very well.
I loved how Claire asked Gothy Craig if he was enjoying the death.
Is Craig staying or going? I think he should stay. There aren't enough goths in soaps these days.

I liked the song Claire couldn't stop singing: "the coffin is my only friend", or whatever. Corrie do The Goths so well.
Oh, and today's question: is it wrong to start finding Bradley Walsh attractive?
I'll let myself out.
