Ok, so whoever wrote Monday's episode has probably seen this website and put a bet on to see how many popular culture references they could shoehorn into 30 minutes. At the last count, the Clash's Rock the Casbah, the Sugarbabes, Ayia Napa and one more, but I can't think of it - what the blazes...

That was it... Janice having a go at Sally, 'yer, but, no but...' Whatever are they thinking of, I say, whatever of they thinking of?

The Jeremy Kyle Show, Bargain Hunt and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire all in one episode. Great stuff.

Just to keep this thread alive for a bit:
- Kirk's discussion with Chesney yesterday. "Like Dr Hook said, 'when you're in love with a beautiful woman, you better watch your friends.'" And Chesney getting all confused and thinking he was talking about Doctor Who. - Rowseh wanting to read Sophie's World now that she's got posh friends, and Sally inventing a cover story for Craig based around a Chili Peppers CD.
None of these are exactly vintage, but for some reason Corrie's pop-culture reference just sound more...organic than the ones in other soaps. They pick them well, and you can believe it's something that character would actually know about.

Rosie has "Laura" by Scissor Sisters as her ringtone for when her friend Laura rings her.

Loved Danny referring to Adam's hair as a "comedy barnet" last night. At last someone tells it like it is...

Bethany singing "A Whole New World" made me jeolous of the profoundly deaf. Did you actually get to hear her sing it? Christy. I missed the first episode last night. My precious ears were saved.

Bethany singing "A Whole New World" made me jeolous of the profoundly deaf. Didn't Peter and Jordan have that at their wedding?

Going back a few days, but I also like the fact that Danny called Liam, who is the most Mancunian bloke in Weatherfield, 'Shaun Ryder'.

Not even that pop-culturey but i loved "less Daniel Craig, more Wendy Craig" last night. Danny and Liam for best double act at next year's soap awards...

Coronation St is "hardly Wisteria Lane", according to Tracy (in response to Deirdre accusing her of chavviness, a pop-culture reference-of-sorts in itself).

Odious David The Devil Child: "I do exactly what it says on the tin".
Brilliant.
oh, and how about Ken saying "Blanche is still giving Miss Marple a run for her money" - pop culture?

Sally: "You know, Jarvis from Pulp lives in Paris..." You know, I quite like Sally. I like how this shows she's trying so hard to be down with her kids, and what they like. She's so excited about bringing them to Paris. Paris, imagine. When she was their age, the furthest they'd get was Skegness and now she's taking them to Paris. And they don't want to go... Poor Sally. I love how Coronation Street makes characters like Sally and Gail very real for me. They're irritating, but I see them almost as more than caricatures, with their weaknesses and insecurities. A

Wasnt Rosie bumming the whole Paris thing the other week talking about how ace it was?

Bumming as a good thing? In my day, bummer was a bad thing. Not 'a bummer' mind you, just 'bummer'.
Anyway, I think she was enthusiatic about Paris but not going there a second time... I was a little confused by that.

I mean bumming in the loving sense. And I'm sure others too consider any type of bumming loving?

Except when it's a 'punishment' fuck, of course. I'll be quiet now. Does that actually happen, outside of prison? Has the gay mafia turned extra violent?
