Richard Arnold was talking about the funeral on GMTV this morning, due to be on in 6-8 weeks.

Soap Gail must be 40ish, though I agree that Real Gail is probably older. If Audrey is her mother, she can't be THAT old - although ow old is Audrey supposed to be? I'm all confused now... Audrey isn't too ancient (she always brackets herself with Ken and Fred, and they must only be in their sixties) but you have to remember that young Audrey was what you might term a bit of a tart (Gail being her second teenage baby, the first being exiled to Canada) and so there would not be such a huge age gap between them. I read in my mum's trashy 'Bella' magazine that Rentaghost Audrey is in fact only 8 years older than Gail in real life.

I read in my mum's trashy 'Bella' magazine that Rentaghost Audrey is in fact only 8 years older than Gail in real life. It's true. That's why Gail mysteriously spent her first few years in the programme getting younger rather than older. And why Aud-reh could've simultaneously played a Russian sex kitten sneezing spirit in Rentaghost and an ageing backstreet tart, I've seen Sue Nicholls down our local Sainsbury's. She's terribly elegant. Helen Worth once did the crossword from Chat sitting next to me at The West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Er, I don't think she's "rt", just "hon".

And so Fred has departed, shuffled off the mortal coil at Audrey's house. I don't think I've ever cared less about a Soap death. They normally fall into one of two catagories- sad and upsetting or glad to see the back of them glee. I felt this had neither.

It was rather ignominious, wasn't it? He didn't even die on screen. It felt a little rushed, like they were attemping to kill him off while shoe-horning this into a dramatic storyline when one didn't really exist.
It's a pity. Fred was such a great comic character and not as exciting dramatically. I would have loved to have seen more of humourous Fred on the wedding day.
The reaction of the congregation when Ashley announced that Fred was dead was not very convincing, e.g. the non-moving face of Ken Barlow.

It was all rather rushed wasn't it? I guess that's the result of 5 shows a week. They should have at least shown him keeling over, instead of just hearing it. We got one little shot of his body, then an ad break, then the ambulance driving off with him. It wasn't een clear he'd carked it until later on.
Worst soap death ever. The confused congregation scened were nice enough though.

Except that Kym Marsh seems to be proving consistently that she's not good enough for the job. Putting her next to more capable actors exposes her limitations horribly.
I was really rather disappointed as well. Fred was one of the show's largest (in both senses) characters for ages (I remember him being introduced as some sort of grotesque foil for Reg Holdsworth) and to cut him off so preremptorily felt mean-spirited and a missed opportunity.
The whole Aud-reh, Bev tug-of-love story was introduced far too late as well. They could have got months out of that: as it was they got two weeks at the fag end.
And expecting Ken's face to move at all is very unrealistic. He hasn't made an overt attempt at emotion since Valerie Barlow electrocuted herself with a hairdryer.

None of them really cared that Fred had died, did they? Only one extra who isnt even a character bowed his head. I was digusted, I say, disgusted.

How botherd would you be if the landlord of your local had died? Of course Kym Marsh didn't care, she's only known him 5 minutes and Steve has already told her her job's safe. I think it's more strange that she was even invited, surely she should have been manning the bar with Betty..?
Last night was totally the Blanche and Norris show.

I was disappointed too. I'd been hoping for a big emotional bust up between the wife and bit on the side over his corpse in the morgue. Preferably in a catfight scenario that tipped him onto the floor. It was so anticlimactic. And I'm no Doctor, but shouldn't he have exhibited some kind of symptom at some point? It was leap around like a young gazelle - well, water buffalo - then boom! he was smashing Audrey's Capa di Monte. Just a little bit of pallid face make up would have helped.

Wow - how amazing was Corrie yesterday! I was loving everyone having a go at Audrey (even Rita, who stands just behind Emily as the most saintly woman in soap). It was great when Ashley laid into her at the rest home. I have never liked Audrey, mainly because she is responsible for Gail. She was a right old pricktease to Fred when he was alive and I am glad she is getting some soap justice now.
She a 'ho.

I've just been watching 70s Corrie and that brought a smile to my face. xxM

Gail being in her forties is the same idea as Audrey only being 60.
I thought they overdid the blusher for fred in the coffin. It made a dramatic/funny moment a funny moment.

I only saw a few minutes, but was really happy that we got to see Fred in his Coffin. I get all angry in soaps when the scenes in the chapel of rest are shot so we don't see the body.
CorrieFact! The filming of last night's chapel scenes were interrupted when the fella playing Archie collapsed. Aparently Fred had to get out of the coffin to help him. Wow.
And I like Audrey! But mainly for the fact that she was Mrs Popov.

I like Audrey - she doesn't deserve what she's been getting this week! After all, Gail is surely enough of a penance for a life time of sin. As for Rita being a saint ... well, more of a harlot, really, in her time.

I do like Audreh, and always have. Her character has recently changed somewhat from glamorous great-granneh to miserable shrew-like spinster. I do not approve.

I love La Nicholls (how could I not? She was in Rentaghost!) but not the character of Audrey. She and Gail have always been very snobbish about Eileen (who I love) which makes no sense as Eileen's family are loads less dysfunctional than theirs. Also if Audrey was less of a shite mum and had got her Supernanny on with Gail at an early age then maybe Gail wouldn't be such a complete waste of space. Then in turn we may have been spared whinging Sarah-Lou and grotestque goblin child David.
