i do think that Channel 4 over reacted, espicaly since Charley did forgive her afterwards, but they we're obvisouly worried as they didnt want another race row on their hands.
i dont think Emily is racist i just think she is stupid, espically as the word didnt even make sense in the context that she said it in, and it showed that it's a word that she obviously uses freely when she's with her friends which is a little bit disturbing, i'm black and i live in a prodominatly black area and ive NEVER been called a Nigger by a black or white person and i would be quite shocked if i was.

Exactly, my point was, Emily didn't use the word with racist intent. She should have been punished, been made to apoligse, but Charley knew she wasn't racist, she shouldn't have been kicked out. Since Shilpagate obviously Channel 4 are very sensitive about the whole race thing. Although it was blown out of proportion, Jade was more racist than Emily ever was even though she never said the word 'paki'. Jade made fun of Shilpa's accent, called her Shilpa poppodom in a derogatory manner. But that wasn't even that racist anyway. The main point was Jade was a bully, not a racist.

Jade made fun of Shilpa's accent, called her Shilpa poppodom in a derogatory manner. But that wasn't even that racist anyway. The main point was Jade was a bully, not a racist. I know we had this argument back in January, and again 3 months ago, when Emily was thrown out, but I feel drawn into it, again. If Jade HAD referred to Shilpa as "a paki", would that have been racist (bearing in mind Shipla isn't from Pakistan)? Would it have been different if Jade described her as "a paki" or called her "a paki" to her face? Would it have been worse in a general conversation or an argument? The word is offensive, and people know not to say it. Or bearing in mind how ignorant Jade is, would people excuse her because she doesn't understand the true meaning of what she was saying. Or, theres the argument that Jade can't use someone's Asianness as a stick to beat them with because her dead father was black. And then there's an argument that a mixed race person couldn't possibly be racist towards another non white person, despite them being a different race entirely. Back to Emily, she immediately knew that what she'd said was offensive, and tried to back track and didn't want anyone else to know. If she genuinely thought it was a harmless everyday word, she wouldn't have been so worried about the rest of the housemates finding out. That she did know she was in the wrong makes me think she understood exactly the nature of what she'd said, regardless of the context.

Even if they hadn't thrown Emily out, she probably would have been evicted in the vote against Shabnam once it was screened anyway.
I agree it was a massive disappointment that the series which started with the "twist" of 11 women on the first night ending up with a final where the only women were: > the twins, who no housemate would have wanted to evict, as it would have been like killing a kitten, or something > Carole, who despite moaning and draining most of the fun out of the house, ended up staying til the end cos she cooked and cleaned for everyone
Though I'm tempted to give up on BB now, I live in hope of the next series having a brilliant female housemate on the level of Aisleyne or Makosi, who actually gets to win.
PS - Is it just me, or is the fact that 25% of UK Big Brother winners are called Brian just a tad depressing?

It is irrevelant if Shilpa is from Pakistan or not. Yes the word 'paki' comes from 'Pakistan', but it is used against Indians, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, etc, in its racist usage. If Jade and Shilpa had been friends and in a friendly conversation she'd called her a paki, yes that'd have been different. The situations are different though because Jade is a celebrity.
Emily knew it was offensive, but she didn't say it in order to offend, that's the point.

My Chinese friend got called a paki once. Racists are stupid. As for Emily, maybe she didn’t mean it as an insult, but I thought the context it was used was quite dodgy. Charley was saying something ridiculous and Emily was basically telling her to stop being stupid. Then Emily goes on to say that she uses that word all the time with her, presumably, white friends. Which makes me think that Emily calls her white friends ‘nigger’ when they are being dumb or silly. Maybe that’s not the case, but that’s how it looked to me. Though I'm tempted to give up on BB now, I live in hope of the next series having a brilliant female housemate on the level of Aisleyne or Makosi, who actually gets to win. When Brian won I told my flatmate I was done watching this crap, but I know that I’ll be watching next year. And yeah, it’s in the vain hope that a brilliant female housemate will go in. And maybe if we are very lucky she will win, and I can actually be pleased on the final night instead of sulking

To bring matters down to a less serious level, on the live final, Davina said Lesley walked, then Emily got kicked out. Wrong way round. Stupid show doesn't even know itself. And where was Thaila?

According to the papers yesterday Ziggy used the word Nigger to Brian last week - whilst quoting song lyrics apparently - but it was all edited out of the programme so they didn't have to act on it and fuck up their last week.

Ok how did I not know Jonothan was in rehab and that was a contributing factor to his absence last night?! Or did I miss that thread? I also didnt catch on that there had already been a Brian winner but then I am slow.

I bet Dowling will be fuming. Now when everyone says "Brian, the winner of Big Brother" no one will think of him.

Just out of interest, why does the title of this thread not include Pete in the cunt's corner? That bullshit story about the friend who came down from heaven to tell him that life wouldn't be worth living if he didn't win surely qualifies him for a lifetime membership, after all.

As well as including the "Me and Nikki have split up but she was crap in bed anyway" interview which next week became "I didn't mean it in a horrible way" when the public suddenly realised what a cunt he was.
