Am I the only one who doesn't want this to happen?
It just doesn't seem right. The Spice Girls only worked because they were a force to be reckoned with in the industry at the time, five young girls with individual personalities singing pop songs that were the best of the 90s pop era.
They'll be none of this anymore - too grown up and jaded to be sporty, scarey, posh and baby (Geri's still ginger, though her former powerful personality has been replaced a bit by lovable desperation). Plus they hardly look like they used to. They're all so thin now.
The music has also changed. They could try for Girls Aloud type songs, but I doubt they could do it better than The Aloud. I doubt they can get away with doing old lady ballads like Take That have managed. The Spices have done nice ballads in the past, but it's not really what they're loved for. Plus the media will be hard on them for being woman.
I suppose it could work, but I'm worried that it'll be like popping round your once vibrant Nan's house to find her splayed out on the kitchen floor with a bad hip, surrounded by piss and the remnants of a Cupp-A -Soup.
So I hope that Thursday's Press Conference will be to say "We have no plans to reunite, so please stop talking about it. Here's a greatest hits and DVD anthology though."

A DVD, CD and Greatest Hits Tour only please.
No faux RnB please.
Make it as brief as possible please.

I would only want them to reform for a one-off concert (to which I would get reasonably-priced tickets) but not make a comeback. As great as their brand of pop was 'back in the day', it's not really needed now and they would end up, as Dunkley said, as a second-rate Girls Aloud. Or worse, a third-rate Sugababes.

Am I the only one who doesn't want this to happen? I think it's a terrible idea. Plus it only feels like 5 minutes to me since they split up. They were great in their day but I can't see them being able to do a 'Take That' and come back with adult material anyone wants to listen to. Everyone in the media is so excited about it (well Richard & Judy). I can't even imagine what they'd wear. It would be like watching 5 Weight Watchers leaders in matching suits.

As Geri once sang:
"Shut up and dance!"

Oh stop moaning you miserable cunt! I'm all excited now, having reorganised my day around watching the press conference on Sky News (only for Sky News to fuck up spectacularly and for News 24 to come in handy). It was quite entertaining, with the 5 old dears picking apart the press they didn't like and having a nice rapport with those they did. I've already registered for tickets. Has anybody else? With only one date for the UK, I really don't think you should.

I registered! I, too, am a bit disappointed that there will only be one date in the UK.
I was supposed to be spending today looking for jobs but sat infront of Sky News at 11.30 and watched until 2.30. What a pile of shite. Instead of making us listen to ex-Smash Hits editors (we all know how much charisma they possess!) going on about how good they were why couldn't they just show us the press conference? They showed about 10 seconds of it before cutting away to some MP coming out of Number 10. Priorities guys! Gutted I didn't think to watch it on News 24, I hope someone YouTube's it.

I almost didn't pre-register when I saw the number of exclamation marks in the announcement. But fuck it, it's the Spice Girls. Wheeee!

I like how they said they hoped to see me at the concert. If Geri doesn't personally yell out 'Hi James!' I'll be most upset. I will also settle for a wave from Emma or a finger-point from Victoria.

I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want, a decent ticket to this concert. Will registering with different email address narrow the odds?
They were always so much more than the sum of their parts, even Victoria shone at the press conference.

I've registered, and am actually quite excited at the prospect. I saw the Spice Girls at their Earls Court show when I was 18, and was mortified that my 6'2 frame was jutting out of the crowd amongst all the five-year-old girls. At least now they'll all be a bit taller and I won't look like such a lanky streak of piss.
However, I'm more excited about the possibility that we'll get to hear some of the lost tracks that threatened never to see the light of day. I'm intrigued to hear the fabled C U Next Tuesday, and while most fans are foaming at the genitals for a studio version of W.O.M.A.N, I'm more keen to hear the Spice version of Girlfriend/Boyfriend with Blackstreet before Janet Jackson was used.
...I like indie normally. Really.

I'm 6'5 and felt very self conscious standing in the third row at a Kylie concert. I was convinced she smiled at me, and one of her backing singers waved. And it was very handy to climb over the seats at the end and get some of the streamers and confetti stuff that had been set off at the end.

I watched 5 minutes of the press conference before realising it wasn't Loose Women.
I just thought Carol McGiffin was having another rough day.

I've registered for a laugh, as have all my mates.
However, I was more excited when I saw the original Bananarama line-up reunited after 20 years. The fact that they were all pissed just added to the magic.

I would like to see them but as they are doing only one UK date and it is six days before I return from travelling around America it's a no-go. Thank you, girls.

It's always convenient to say a pop act has came full circle, but that is how I feel about this venture - a wonky oval shape at the very least.
The girls clumsy aspirational charm remains intact in that they can't help but be themselves - Bo Selecta has sealed Mel B's place in my heart for life. I have not seen any of that press conference footage - I agree it must have been 'disappointing' Geri did not barf chocolate cake all over the desk, but what did people expect? I personally thought they looked 'almighty' and poignantly brilliant - their 'couldn't care less' interaction with the press sounds incredible (didn't they slag The Mirror?).
However, the new material stance is a bit wobbly mind - they must realise fans want a new album and that if it were pop it would sell like no tomorrow, or something. Maybe it is safer to test the waters with a compilation first and then see.

I'm pretty sure more dates will be announced if demand exists

Gutted I didn't think to watch it on News 24, I hope someone YouTube's it. In case you've not found it: The sound kicks in once the proper conference starts, and the other parts are down the side. I love that they've got their actual real life manager Clifford acting as MC.

I always feel guilty standing near the front at gigs as I tend to eclipse everyone in the few rows behind. My Tall Man Guilt made me stand at the back during Shiny Toy Guns but my friends got seperated from me so I ended up looking like a lanky loser on his own. Boo.

I have been suffering from fits of rage that somewhat resemble a Hyde/Hulk/Joan Crawford/Frankenstein's creature cocktail of emotions since I realised the tickets will be randomly allocated. If I don't get to see the Spice Girls, I will turn a gun on every school from Wick to Land's End and that is a promise.

I got an email from them last night hinting heavily that they are going to add more London dates. Hurrah.
