Copycat - William McNamara as a serial killer and Sigourney Weaver trying to kick ass. I couldn't leave the house for two days afterwards thinking someone might be watching me leaving my house.

This is probably a bit pathetic but I find 'The Ring' quite scary in the sense that I don't like the ''fuzzy'' screen on my tv anymore as I expect it to stop and show a girl coming out of a well, crawling up the end of my bed and making me so scared that my face becomes contorted. But the film in general isn't that scary.

The Ring- The Japanese version- I was fine until she crawled out of the tv. Scum- I put this on as I was going to bed (was on tv) and only saw one scene, that one being the rape scene. Repulsed and disturbed me more then anything I've seen before. Lolita- The Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain version. Left such a bad taste in my mouth.

The Witches honestly did traumatise me as a kid. I saw it when I was about five which was way too young and for years (probably) I'd lie in bed convinced that outside in the garden the Grand High Witch was pointing a bony finger at me with a glacial stare, just waiting for me to look through the curtain. Eek!
Horror film wise, the Japanese have it down. Audition, The Grudge and Ring all scared me shitless.

It still is a bit traumatic. I watched it the other day and the grand high witch as a mouse is soooooo freaky.

The Ring - I went to bed and cried Audition - Didn't enjoy the start. Then it started getting wiggy. And then it just went full scale and totally freaked me out. Then i went to bed and cried.

Ring (Japanese version). I was scared of the telly at the end of my bed for days afterwards.
Don't Look Now - It's such a shocking ending.
Starship Troopers - so much death and beheading.

See, I'm sadistic, I found that funny, when I was about 13. I watched it when I was sick. I think it was the first 18 I watched. I just found it hilariously funny. Especially the beheading!

Grave of the fireflies. Possibly my fault for being naïve enough for thinking an animated film with a 12 certificate couldn't be all that bad. It's a very good film, but I never want to see it again.

How could I forget Deliverence? Possibly because it traumatised me so deeply I blocked it out until now. I really couldn't believe what I was watching. The things they got away with in the 70s...

"Ring" for me too - only the telly bit - and to a lesser extent, "audition". I still freak out boyo by doing the Kittykittykitty bit...
Also, Dancer in the dark and Irreversible traumatised me a lot but I think they belong in the 'depressing films' thread..

I can not watch Edward Scissorhands. When I was young it used to majorly scare me and freak me out, now it just makes me feel really bad and cry a dangerous amount. It makes me loose all faith in mankind.
And exactly how does he go for a piss?

Most traumatic film I have seen was also Don't Look Now its too disturbing for my liking.
Hellraiser 2 I did watch it extremly drunk, but was so scared I spent the night sleeping on the kitchen floor and wouldnt get into my bed for a week.
and quite pathetically Finding Nemo I was not prepaired for the beginning of that film. I burst into tears and everyone around me laughed.

CRAPCRAPCRAP yes. it is a DEPRESSING film. I bought a Hiyako Miyazake (sic) boxset, which included that film and I didn't know what I was letting myself in for since it was all in Japanese and I'd never heard of that film. it is the most depressing film EVER. Put it like this. It doesn't end happy. for anyone.

It was the scene where the girl is shovelling dead fireflies into a hole and the boy's watching and has flashbacks of his mum being dumped in a mass grave that got me
There was some B-movie in black and white that I saw late night when I was quite young that scared the hell out of me too, can't remember the name of it for the life of me though, but it involved something being dug up in the London Underground and then ended with some dreadfully unrealistic anti-silhouette of the devil in the sky. It'll probably just look really silly to me now though.

It has to be Ring (or Ringu for pedants!) for me as well. I've seen it quite a few times now and the cultural impact of the TV crawling scene makes it a little less scary, it's just so familiar. It's all the rest of it that freaks me out now (well, always has done). The people rolling around on the video and the bit with the guy with a towel over his head, and the part where the little kid is watching the video and you just see something in the well move before it cuts out. And the well itself!
I've had about three nightmares about Ring. Right up there as one of my favourite films ever, though. As for the remake, I'm not sure I could stomach all the CGI I've heard about.

I was still only riding a bicycle when I saw it, but The Hitcher with C Thomas Howell totally ruined the joy of picking up hitchhikers for me.
