Oh, and did anyone else cop the resemblance between Amber and Sarah Harding? Amber was pure Grace Adams Short. I finally got around to seeing it today, and did enjoy it although it wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped. When my mother saw it the weekend it came out she couldn't understand why the mother was played by a man, even though it was the from the original film, and I kind of understood why when they could have got Jennifer Coolidge to play Edna. It wasn't until the final dance scene that Travolta actually did anything. Alison Janney and Amanda Bynes were my favourites though. I laughed so much at the Devil Child line that my mobile fell out of my pocket. Overall though the singing and dancing was excellent though and I imagine it. I'm glad Ben from Joseph has been cast as Link - the perfect role for him - and I agree with Coxy that Brenda Edwards would be perfect as Mayebelle. SUCH a shame that Kelly Osbourne has been signed up for Chicago though.

I went to see this last night but it had sold out, so I ended up watching The Simpsons Movie instead.

I've never seen the original. But I really enjoyed this. Amanda Bynes is so cutesy. And yeah I totally clocked the Amber resemblence to Sarah Harding, until I remembered she was that one in the awful John Tucker Must Die

AND my friend made us miss most of the opening number.
Loved it though.

I watched the remake and have to admit, I loved it. I'm sorry if that makes me a bad person, it was so great. I saw the slagging off you all gave the remake and wanted to hate it, but now I'm just hoping this means I'll enjoy the original all the more.

While I do love the original (and off to see John Waters himself at Film Festival tomorrow tonight - hooray!) I LOVED this!
Have downloaded a couple of songs from the soundtrack but may be making the trip to the shops to buy the whole thing! Whole lotta fierce in the film - the girl playing Tracy Turnblad was superb and kudos must also go to Michelle Pfieffer, Amanda Bynes and CJ off the West Wing.
My favourite line is probably "You'll end up in prison fighting whores for cigarettes". Also loved the cameos from John Waters, Ricki Lake and Mink Stole.

It's brilliant, I couldn't stop smiling throughout. A Heh - this is exactly what I came here to post, but apparently it's not an original opinion. I loved it. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a film this much. Even John Travolta, who I thought was going to be the weak link, impressed me. And I hope Amanda Bynes's lollipop gets a nod for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.

John Travolta actually looks like my friends mother in this. I hope she doesn't go and see it. It'll kill her

If I looked like John Travolting in drag I think I'd quite like to die very quickly.

Michael Ball is performing in a concert on BBC2 Wales at the moment. He really is packing the pounds - it'll save him having to put the fat suit on I guess.

I agree about Amber being pure Grace Adams-Short. That's all I could think.
I FINALLY saw this today, and though Travolta was a bit meh, on the whole I loved it a lot.
I am considering purchasing the soundtrack, and I NEVER purchase soundtracks!
My memory of the original is hazy, but I seem to recall it being quite different to this.

I couldn't find a picture to illustrate this, but John Travolta looked scarily like Colleen Nolan in his last musical number when parts of his hair was all up just like the loose womans' is sometimes. This made the film for me.
As expected, Phieffer always delivers when given the chance to ham it up. Nothing spectacular about it, but it was quite short and enjoyable all the same. And it was fantastic seeing Ricki Lake make a cameo - there was a time "go Ricki, go Ricki" felt like a genuine phenomena back in'96. I remember this really loud girl sticking up for me during the first week of secondary school when I said it was my favorite thing to watch whilst having dinner.

I adore Sophia Bush but I was ashamed of her in that film. I love love love this film. It's my second "cheer me up" film to put on if I've already watched Little Miss Sunshine. My love for Zac Efron knows no bounds though and when him and Tracey kiss at the end, it's bloody ace.
