Couldn't agree more. Umbridge should look like a toad. Luna should look completely quirky. Although apparently JK loves the actress playing Luna and thinks she's perfect for the role, and on her Wikipedia entry, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evanna_Lynch, there's a different picture of her as herself which suggests she might manage to pull it off.

The casting has been stop on so far, and I think Imelda Staunton will play it perfectly. It's more about acting like a toad rather than looking like one. Umbridge is like a cross between the Women's Institute and the CIA and I think even the few photos leaked show she fits really well.

It's not about acting like a toad - from book 5, where we are introduced to Umbridge: She looked just like a large, pale toad. She was rather squat with a broad, flabby face, as little neck as Uncle Vernon and a very wide, slack mouth. Her eyes were large, round and slightly bulging. Even the little black velvet bow perched on top of her short curly hair put him in mind of a large fly she was about to catch on a long sticky tongue."

I read in some trashmag that Helena Bonham-Carter has been cast as Bellatrix Lestrange. Even though she's not as hot as I imagined HBC is proper creepy so I think that's a good call. Plus maybe she can fix it for Tim Burton to direct the next film - that would be AMAZING!!!!

Ok god that would rock.
The woman is supposed to have a froggy face. Deal. Michael Caine looks like a toad now he is older, they should have got him to do it.
I am looking forward to this when it comes out, but last time I embarrassed myself in the cinema by squealing any time Malfoy or Snape popped up when I wasn't expecting it. Or indeed, when I was expecting it.

Or indeed, when I was expecting it. Which was never considering together they both had a combined time of about 15 minutes on screen. I'm not really looking forward to this film, i thought the book was too long and boring. Half blood pronce on the other hand I cant wait! If for anything the amount of Snape screen time even though the way the films are going just now, he'll be in it 5 minutes at the end. *Isn't bitter about the lack of Snape in the films at all*

I think this is the worst of the books thus far but the film will have the bonus feature of Gary Oldman. Not only was he great in the third one but he definately ranks as one of my 'shouldn't but woulds'.

That milisecond of Helena Simian Carter as Bellatrix is the best thing I've seen today in my life, she's definitely going to steal this one.
I found the last two books almost unreadable, but they should make good films. Is it just me who thinks all of the main three kids are really shit actors? When they were 11 it seemed excusable but now they're just...shit. I know a lot people love Daniel Radcliffe, though.
Where's Luna? I love that crazy bitch.

I thought most people hated him! I certainly do, both for his substandard acting and his ZANY interviews. Do you remember him on Jonathan Ross?! Jesus wept. The other two are pretty awful too - Ron knows only two faces, and Hermione sounds like she's putting on her English accent and just reading the lines. Their characters, coupled with the fact that they're not as bad as Radcliffe, make them far more likable though. The strength of these films always lies in the supporting cast and the general look, which both seem to be bang on for Order of the Phoenix. Even if I did imagine Umbridge as being played by Annette Badland (aka The Slitheen, and hundreds of characters in Holby City and Casualty).

It looks great, but Harry would never get to kiss any girls with that stupid haircut.
I know he's supposed to have silly glasses, but in the books he's just a lot more 'cool'.

Awww I love The Radcliffe! He's a complete geek and most famous people try so hard to be cool, I find it heartening when someone famous just doesn't even bother. I agree, in the first film the 3 teenagers acting was pretty wooden, but I think as the films have gone on, they have really grown into their roles and are now capable performers. The trailer looks so exciting I nearly screamed. Everyone is just how I imagined them to be, especially Bellatrix- I remember reading the book thinking "Helena B-C would be awesome in this role" and it's just brilliant that she is! What excites me most about this film is that this book, although big, there is a lot of stuff you can cut out. Not that I think it was bad (I have to disagree with YBKY, I really do love all the books for very different reasons) but it's more a-b stuff, as opposed to important plot devices. So therefore as far as I can see, there will be no Marauders Map or Priori Incantatem debacle in this film, and it should just be bloody entertaining. Ok, HP geek rant over.

Apparently the actress originally meant to play Bellatrix got preggers and HBC was drafted in instead.

Apparently the actress originally meant to play Bellatrix got preggers and HBC was drafted in instead. I was quite surprised when I read it was HBC because I'd read somewhere else it was going to be Helen McCrory. She would have been really good in a throaty, goggle-eyed way, but Helena Bonham Carter does look very evil in the trailer. In fact, the trailer just looks brilliant full stop. I agree with what's been said about chucking out some of the stuff from the book. Goblet of Fire is my favourite of the films so far, mainly because it looked as if the writer had sat down with the book and really thought about what would work in the film, whereas the first three seemed to straining a bit too hard to stay completely faifthful to JK Rowling.

The trailer for this looks great until the skyscraper bit at the end. It's not Spiderman 3, you know.
Looking forward to this immensely though, as I really want to see how trhey tackle book 5. It's such a doorstop of a thing with so little of its own plot (rather than being a development of the whole mythology of HP).
July is blooming far away, isn't it?

I'm presently surpirsed by the trailer, it looks like it might be quite good.
OotP is my least favourite, but there are some brilliant bits in it. The bit immediately after Harry's first kiss is hilarious. Unfortunately that's not very central to the plot. What would make the film really good is if they toned down Harry and Sirius' twattishness, then I might feel a bit more sympathy for them. Or, alternatively, actually make Snape a bit more sympathetic during the Occlumency stuff- you know, make it seem like he is trying to help Harry and Harry's being an idiot- in preparation for the next book.

my only problem with the trialer (aside from the twattyness of the main trio) is that it looks very CGI-ish, which can ruin a film when blatently the actors havent been anywhere any real sets, just pottering about in front of a green screen. other than that, it looks suitably actiony

How can they cut things from the books when they don't know the story will end? If they remove a tine detail that turns out to be integral to the whole story then thats it ruined, isn't it? And it doesn't seem impossible that that could happen.

I think JK would tell them "Put that in" as she prolly gets a good read of the scripts before they film anything

They cut a huge chunk out of Goblet of Fire, don't forget. Including all the house elf stuff.

Which is a shame as it was one of the better little sub-plots, the House Elf liberation. Can't be very central to the plot though if they were allowed to cut it out.
