As in the locket that had RAB in it? Isn't that in book 6? Yeah but the theory is that (spoilered just incase but I'm sure everyone is aware of the theory) RAB is Sirius's brother and the real locket (i.e. not the fake one that RAB put in place of the horcrux locket) is the one that they couldn't open when they were cleaning the Black house in book 5 I suppose it all depends how the locket thing unfolds in book 7, whether that needed to be included in the film or not.

I thought that RAB was Regalus, but didn't notice the locket thing. That is quite interesting.
I suppose we'll find out in a few days though. My, isn't it exciting?

Not when you find out you're working on Saturday. Then it's frustrating to a level that could be considered evil!!

Yes - JK made them keep Kreacher in the film, they went to all the trouble of 3d modelling him etc, and yet he was completely underused. ooooh, I wonder if Kreacher has an important role in Book 7....

You'd think they could have worked in something about how Kreacher played a pivotal role in Sirius's death

I've seen it, though I think I'll be going to see it again. It was very gray wasn't it? I mean, i get adding atmosphere but the bits in the forest with Umbridge near the end I could barely see it was all so murky.
It wasn't as depressing as some of the reviews made out though. There were a few funny exchanges kept from the book- the bit just after Harry kisses Cho is one of my favourite bits of all the books, so I'm glad they kept some of that.
Some bits were downright mawkish though, which I liked less. Neville talking about his parents made me want to throw things.
Luna was good, if she'd had more time she would have been better though- for example, apart from Hermione calling her Loony it's not really mentioned that she's unpopular. In the books Harry et al are sort of lumbered with her, then they realise she's ace. Obviously there wasn't enough time though. It would have also been nice if Helena Bonham Carter had more to do than shriek and chew the scenery.
I found Gary Oldman a bit yummy, but that's neither here nor there and I think it was just his lovely curly hair and Edwardian dandy get up.

I thought they made more of her being bullied though, like the bit at the end with her converse. Unless I'd just forgotten all the picking on she went through in the book. I've seen it, though I think I'll be going to see it again. It was very gray wasn't it? I mean, i get adding atmosphere but the bits in the forest with Umbridge near the end I could barely see it was all so murky. That's so true! Everytime a new Harry Potter film comes out all the cast/crew go on about how much 'darker' this one is than the last, as if being miserable and making it harder to see what's happening makes a better film. As a result I don't think the series feels as warm and magical as the first two. I mean, the books do have an increasingly dark tone, but they don't really suffer this.

I saw this yesterday, I think they did quite a good job of adapting it considering the length, it almost seemed to have a plot. I still think Daniel Radcliffe is dreadful though, in every scene it's like he's never acted before. People in Hollyoaks are better than him. (well, some of them). I do love Ron though. I wish Bellatrix had been in it more, I looooove Helena Bonham-Carter. She was channelling Amy Winehouse here I thought. Apparently they cut loads of her bits, like her duel with Sirius. I loved her running away screaming 'I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK!!' I really fancy Sirius in the books but Gary Oldman is TOO OLD and haggard. Sirius is meant to be a sex god dammit! It was really dark I thought, Icould barely see what was going on in the ministry at the end. I didnt like everyone flying around, that's not supposed to happen! And Sirius was NOT avada kedavrad,it really annoyed me that they changed that. Also, was it just me, or did sirius not seem remotely bothered when he was being fake crucioed?

Why were Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter dressed like they were going to a 'pimps and hos' party?

I saw it last night and enjoyed it. I cant believe Luna actress is Irish, me and my friend were giggling at her accent, it was a bit like a fake Irish accent that trailed off mid word.
The room of requirement when Harry and Cho were left behind, I was saying how it should have turned into an Austin Powers style love shack with some flip down bed or something. Instead, when the mistletoe grew from the ceiling, I let out rather a loud "OH PLEASE." which had most of my row laughing. I don't like Daniel Radcliffe, this makes watching the films in a public place quite a challenge.

I quite liked that, mainly cause in the book he is killed by a curtain, and being adava kedavra'd I think gives him what's due. I thought the final scenes looked good, a bit lacking in tension when Sirius died though, it just sort of happened. Which I suppose is true of in the book but I thought there'd be more of a build up in the film.

I know that's how it's meant to be in the book, but it's very rare that he conveys anything else convincingly so we figured he's just a crap lover.

He WELL dived in for that snog, in the book he stands there and takes it while Cho lurches at him, all snot and tears.
Georgie, I was lolling at Luna being Irish too, though not as much as I lolled at Cho being Scottish in the last film. "Two pumpkin pasties please" in that voice will stay in my mind forever"

Is Luna irish in the book? We were all surprised, and wondered if we'd each missed reference to it.

Nah but Cho isn't Scottish either. It was only after Maggie Smith started playing McGonnagall in the films that the books made any reference to her Scottishness. Before the films I imagined her as like that skinny one wot's in the Worst Witch, cause it says in Philosophers Stone that her hair's black. I also thought for a while Hermione's name was pronounced horomone.

I thought it was Hermy-un myself.
Oddly I aways pictured McGonogall as a Maggie Smith type. However, Professor Trelawney will always be Joanna Lumley in my mind. Much more subtly mental than the way Emma Thompson does it.

I still don't like the look of the Luna girl. I always imagined Luna had more of a Cassie from Skins type look. Cassie would have been such a good Luna. xx I. Have. No. Words. I have just been to see the film (I know, but I've been working two jobs this summer) and I wrote an LJ update about the film - and I said exactly this! Freaky. But so true. It was definitely my fave so far - I have a huge thing for Draco so was disappointed at the lack of him and Snape, who I also think is great. Fred and George were fab, Cho insipid (but then I think Katie Leung is, too), Harry really good (I saw the Radcliffe in Equus and was really impressed with his acting, glad it was reflected here). Emma Watson really toned it down this time round for Hermione, thank god. Ron looked actually rather fit! Unimpressed with Kingsley. He should be a lot younger and a lot fitter! As ever, Lucius was spot on, the whole Ministry of Magic set of scenes were marvellous. I thought Petunia looked amazing, actually, although the bloke who plays Dudley needs to sort out his acting skills. Can we say sub-par? Didn't like the fucking up of plotlines, like with the Marietta being a sneak thing and the ramming the Room of Requirement, but did very much enjoy the fireworks - though wasn't there meant to be a swamp in one of the halls?

I finally managed to drag someone to see this with me tonight. On the whole I thought everything taken on its own was great but it never came together, and ultimately was just a bit dull.
Have they had their budget cut or something? The first two thirds of the film looked so cheap, I'm not sure if it was intended or not really. In the previous films Hogwarts looked amazing, in this it was like they had filmed it all on two drab sets.
Have to say I absolutely adore Luna, thought she was spot on. I actually wanted to cry in her last scene with Harry. And I still think Hermione is the best thing about these films, her comic timing is actually just as good as Ron, Harry really is the weak link (although the dark hair/good skin combo gives me inappropriate thoughts about him).
Snape was brilliant too, cannot wait to see him in the next two films. I'm just worried that the same director will make them just as dull.

Agreed, although there is no such thing as good comic timing in a film this expensive. It's edited to within an inch of its life.

After seeing the fifth film on Saturday I realised I'd never actually seen the forth one, I had just seen so many trailers and stuff that I just thought I had. I have seen it now and it is all kinds of amazing.
