This is my daemon, Rire. Isn't she lovely? You can get your own daemon at the film's website, !!!here!!!I think I might actually wet myself when I see the trailer in the cinema for the first time.

I was a raven. A modest artistic one.
That's not me at all.

Me too! I have **this** lady chimp called Bryanna. I am happy with that, unless someone else gets a penguin or a squirrel.

I am a lion as well. A modest, spontaneous, fickle, flexible and relaxed one.
His name is Myron, which I can't really take seriously because of Friends.

Hmmm, I got the Lion as well - I suspect this might be a stitch-up via Flash. I can't think of anyone less suited to having a lion Daemon than me. In fact, when we discussed the matter with one of my best friends he immediately replied that my Daemon would be a Tamagotchi - on the grounds that it, like me, betrays no emotion.
Personally I would have preferred a lizard. Ah well...

This has bollocks all internal validity. I did it again and now I'm a modest fickle chimp leader.

I don't like the look of my Raccoon. She looks like she's up to something.

Mine is a slightly emaciated looking hare. That's a bit boring, really. I want a massive spider. Then nobody would fuck with you.

I've now seen the full length trailer in the cinema, and it looks as amazing as I've been expecting it to be. Mrs Coulter's daemon looks fantastically scary.
And it's only a month to go! I'm more excited about this than I am about Kylie Who and Christmas together.

I'm very very upset that I got the fucking golden monkey. Apparently I'm as evil as Mrs Coulter.
Speaking of whom, why the bloody buggery could they not dye Nicole Kidman's hair?

The daemons look pretty good, especially the snow leopard. Nicole Kidman looks AMAZING. It is clearly going to bloody terrifying as Christopher Lee is in it.

I saw this this morning and was a bit underwhelmed by it all.
Dakota Blue Richards is perfect as Lyra and Nicole Kidman is suitably icy as Marissa Coulter, even if she doesn't look the part at all.
The main problem for me is that none of it feels very epic. The book had such a sense of urgency and danger that this version is just too watered down to handle properly. There's never any feeling that Lyra is in any real peril.
However there are some great scenes once they arrive at Bolvangar and one moment at the end of the Bear Fight that had me thinking "did that really just happen!?" I even got a bit tearful when we meet Lee Scoresby and Hester for the first when I remembered what happens to them in book two
I have so much love for the books that I knew I was going to be a bit disappointed but this film just felt a bit gutless for me. My boyfriend who's never read the books really, really enjoyed it though. I guess he doesn't know just how much better it COULD have been.
New director next time please...

We saw this last night and it really is shite. And everyone thought that, whether we'd read the book or not.
There are too many to list, but the main problems are that you don't feel much threat for Lyra and there's nobody worth giving a toss about. Plus it's directed really flatly and seems to be shot in some sort of anaemic colour palate with lots of sandy browns and creams so it doesn't even look pretty.
Nicole and her evil monkey were quite good, but you even get the feeling that they're holding back somewhat.
It reminded me a bit of that rubbish Narnia from a few years back, though this wins bonus points for being a bit shorter.
I am crying great big tears that this will receive millions and millions more audience members than the wonderful Stardust.

I'm in agreement with the other reviews: I left with a kind of
'That was okay'
feeling which is the worst thing a movie can do. I found the casting incestuous as well: Daniel Craig, Eva Green? Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen? Iorek will forever be 'Gandalf Bear' to me now.
I have decided to read the books in order to overcome my 'what the hell is everyone going on about?' feelings.
My Daemon is a fox called Valthera - if wonder if she'll fancy a drink later when I'm pissed up.

I enjoyed the film but also got the impression it could've been better - an opinion broadly held by the people I went to see it with who had all read the book. I must read the books myself now.
I went to the website and got a tiger daemon, which I'm pleased with. She's called Vyena.
