I managed to go to a preview screening unveiling footage of this the other week and it really blew me away. I was expecting very bad CGI and an even worse script but was proved wrong on both counts.
Plus there is a LOT of military action with many men running around with no tops on (hurrah).

Oh my God! I saw the trailer for this at the cinema and it looks completely amazing! It's like that Citroen car advert meets Terminator 2, but a billion times more exciting!
When the trailer started I realised what it was for, but knew my mate wouldn't so I whispered very seriously to her "It's like they're robots... in disguise!" Ho ho. (You might have to be a certain age to know what that's about, but it's extremely witty I can assure you. Just call me Oscar Wilde.)

Naked Military Men... Hurrah! I totally want my Transformers wallpaper back, after seeing that trailer.. I had Transformers wallpaper until the age of 15, when the gay rumblings began and I changed it to a shade of lime green. I think this looks a bit rubbish though, despite the promise of military men half naked. I might splurge in a ticket though depending on reviews.

The only thing I don't get (and forgive my ignorance of classic kids TV) but what did the Transformers look like before they arrived on Earth?
Surely other planets don't have Beetles driving around do they? Or am I missing something?

Surely other planets don't have Beetles driving around do they? Or am I missing something? They had what is being called "protoforms" The following page has concept images of the film characters as well as images of the toys being released for the film. Several of the protoforms are shown including Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream (posts 6 and 7). (warning - very pic heavy) www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=115458

I cannot wait for this movie. I believe I've said this once before, but while other people were able to geek out about the Spiderman/X-Men/Superman movies, this is the moment where I will truly get my geek on.

this is the moment where I will truly get my geek on. Have you joined Team Autobot or Team Decepticon? myspace.com/transformersI'm so excited about Hugo Weaving. He is great at just being a voice. On the basis of his cool voice I started fancing him madly during V for Vendetta, even though his knob would have been burnt to a crisp. I don't want to think about the impracticalities of shagging Megatron.

We got an Optimus Prime at work last week, it's HUGE! for once it seems as if the old toys were smaller and crapier than the new ones.
I'm still trying to think how I can make an excuse to take it home with me.

The theatrical trailer has been slated for release towards the end of May. All the ones we have seen so far have been teasers.
I think they are showing it with Pirates of the Caribean 3 and Shrek 3.

I'm afraid I'm going to resurrect the spirit of Uncaring Elsie here; I could not give a tinker's toss about this film whatsoever. Giant robots fighting? Don't care. Really don't. Especially since the same robots turn into cars.
Let's face it: this is a two hour toy advert, and I can watch Nickleodeon for that and not have to leave the house.

The only thing that bothers me about Transformers is that their faces are such ridiculouly small afterthoughts. I hope they dispense with this for the new film. It looks like they get badass helmets (mmmatron!) instead.
Otherwise, they are the greatest.

Nope, watched the trailers and I still couldn't give a fuck. It's special effects fighting special effects. And it's a Michael Bay film, so no shot will last longer than two seconds so you won't be able to work out what's going on, and when you do work it out, it'll just be Jon Voight overacting and a load of green screen bollocks.

The trailer does good. My only fear is that the only good bits of the film are in it. I'll still go see it though.

I saw a dvd called "Transformers - The Movie" in Woolies today. £2. Should I go back tomorrow and buy it?

You mean... you've never seen Transformers the movie? Sacrilege! Its a proper serious film, you know, Orson Welles did one of the voices and everything.
The cartoon series was better, though.

I used to have the Transformers: The Movie book and casette tie-in. Remember them? That was my childhood. I really cried when Optimus Prime died (he did didn't he).
As for this movie, I am actually looking foward to it now.
EDIT: After watching the Yahoo Exclusive trailer, I am convinced this will be amazing. I hope they don't talk.

Optimus Prime did die but they had a little narration bit at the end which implied that, in the style of Jesus, he might come back.
