What terrible news. The news came through in text and we toasted him lots on our night out which this news faltered somewhat, being film and tv students. He was most ace and his career was one of the few that I followed with interest. A Knight's Tale and Brokeback Mountain are two of my favourite films and Brothers Grimm is one of those films which is rubbish but most watchable. He was pretty much flawless in all of them. RIP.

Not much I can say. I feel a bit silly being as upset as I am - I'm a grown woman, I'm the same age as him, I didn't even know him - but I very nearly threw up when the news broke on TV last night. I can't pretend I know a huge amount about film from a technical point of view, but I know what I like and Heath Ledger has been brilliant in everything I have seen him in.
His poor little girl. It's so sad.

Me to, and that's what gets me. So young, and so in his prime, so much more life to live. What a great shame.

I am still in a completely stunned state. I have to type up the news as part of my job, and writing the same events again and again is both depressing and incredulous.
What a sad, sad waste. His portrayal of the Joker will be even more haunting now.

I thought I'd misheard when this was on the news. What a shame.

It is really sad. I woke up to this on GMTV.
I have always kept an eye out for what he was doing and what films he was in ever since being obsessed with everyone and everything in 10 Things I Hate About You when I was 14/15.
And Brad Renfro last week too *sad face*.

The thing that gets me (and maybe this is me being old fashioned and showing my years), but there seems to be no respect for the dead at all. He was found three hours ago, and already all the gossip sites have trawled youtube for videos "clearly showing he was under the influence of drugs", not to mention streaming coverage of his corpse being removed from the building. I'm being naive I know, in this day of 24 hour news this is to be expected, but come on, he's not even cold yet and the news is rife with speculation on how much of a druggy he was/was it an accident/what was he wearing etc etc. Anyway, again, it is such a shame. I know what you mean. When I was at uni we were taught just to report the news without personal opinion or bias. These days they seem more interested in speculation and creating more drama, more of a 'story'. As for showing the removal of his body, I don't see that has any news value. I really hope it transpires to be an accidental overdose but either way he was a talented young actor, someones son, brother and father. Some people sacrifice their humanity to become a star but Heath Ledger didn't seem to do that.

And Brad Renfro last week too *sad face*. I know; it's quite a depressing two for one of talented young actors dead before their time. Really didn't expect this.

I didn't quite believe it when I heard.
What will they do with Batman? It's his face all over the publicity

That is beyond sick. It makes me so angry - I'm not entirely sure that God would approve of such venom and anti-Christian sentiment. This really is such a sad story, and it really angers me that anyone could use it in such a malicious and evil way.

Just ignore them. It's the publicity that they want.
Terry Gilliam must be th world's unluckiest director.

I guess his funeral will be in Australia though and I can't imagine those awful people getting themselves out there, plus you'd hope the Australian authorities wouldn't stand for it.
I too am shocked at how pissed off I am. I just kept hoping it was some kind of extreme rumour-based publicity stunt for Batman. I can be counted on to bawl my head off at Brokeback Mountain anyway, next time I watch it I'll go mental. It's just so unexpected and such a waste.
Poor Heath!

Woah. I thought this thread title referred to just general Heath appreciation, so opening it has been a bit of a shocker.
Really, really sad news. He was a good actor and I enjoyed him in everything I saw. It didn't hurt that he was good looking, either.

Awful news. The Australian journalist who was on GMTV this morning, possibly the BBC really annoyed me. Heath is barely cold and this pathetic hack was going on about how he met him "recently" (i.e. 18 months ago) and that form that he knew that he sffered from severe mood swings and mental illness. Anything for an exclusive though, souless cunt. The media frenzy when his body was removed was awful too. It seemed to me scarily reminscent of what happens to Britney on a day by day basis, but he never courted the media in such a way.
His poor daughter though.

It is scary. I don't know who needed to see 'the body'
I am finally going to be a big, brave girl and watch Brokeback mountain. My friend lent it to me a year ago.

i16.photobucket.com/albums/b46/hanagumori/heath.jpgI feel sick, I actually feel sick. Does anyone remember Louis Theroux's "The Most Hated Family In America"? They were Westboro Church "congregants". It's just so, so, so horrifically sad. He was always number three on my list.
