I am just venting my anger about the shitty service of Amazon and Royal Mail this Christmas. I cannot remember it being this bad any other year. The most disappointing thing is that they know it's going to be busy, but they never make preparations.
Four examples this year:
A couple of gifts from Etsy. Posted from America on the 4th December. NOT HERE YET.
Something from ebay. Posted 2nd class on 9th December. ARRIVED 16 DECEMBER!
Something else from ebay. Posted 2nd class on 14th December. NOT HERE YET.
And the worst:
A DVD box set from Amazon. Bought on 12th December - NOT EVEN DISPATCHED YET! The status has been "Dispatching soon" for 4 days - so that I cannot cancel it. Yesterday they sent me an email to apologise and to say that my delivery was being upgraded to insure it's arrival before Christmas. Still hasn't been dispatched though!
Plus, I'm sure Royal Mail have been saving up my packages until I've gotten 2 or 3 and then delivering them in one go, the bastards.
Why can't they handle being busy? Why can't they all just take on extra staff? Why does it take (at time of writing) 8 days to find something from a warehouse and put it in a box for me?

aaaaaaarrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh i am miffed with royal mail right now. i ordered something of a slightly illegal nature from the net which was sent (from canada) on the 4th. it has not arrived. because of the contents i'm reluctant to call and ask what's going on, so i'm just waiting and stewing.

Yup, the mail is AWFUL this year as my Kylie episode would testify - although that was only two weekslate, some things have been three.
It seems a fairly widespread problem with all internet ordering, off all sites.
The shops 1 The internet 0.

Oh God, I have so much rage towards Royal Mail that I can only express it in bullet points for fear of thumping someone.
* Card left for parcel, only half filled in, so no indication as to where it now is * Redelivery requested * Nothing happens * Five days pass * Kind housemate goes to depot on way home from work to pick it up * She waits for half an hour in queue * Woman at counter says 'it's not here yet' and that, despite the request on the card to wait 48 hours, it should be left for three days. * It has been FIVE DAYS. Woman at counter refuses to accept this. * Woman at counter says to request redelivery then * BACK TO POINT TWO AND REPEAT
So I ended up calling Tesco (who sent the DVD), who said they'd resend it and charge the £35 cost of the original package to Royal Mail. Love it.
They are SO rude to you (Post Offices too). Overworked, I'm sure, but they really couldn't give a shit.
They also set up my redirection ten days late over the summer meaning that my new debit card got lost and I had to be without a new one for three weeks. I sent a letter of complaint and didn't even get a reply. (Yes, it probably got lost in the post, ho ho ho)

I left a note for my postie for one of my deliveries asking them to leave it outisde the door (I live in a flat where only residents have access and I only have five nighbours, all of whom are lovely), or to give it to a neighbour, but he still left the red card.
I emailed the post office and they said posties were not allowed to leave parcels in safe places or with neighbours. In which case, why do their red cards say 'we have left it in your safe place' and 'we have left it with your neighbuor' as options?
Our sorting office has had mega long queues outside every day for six weeks. And it's only open for about five minutes each morning, too.

Well thats clearly a lie about them not leaving stuff cos a couple of weeks ago I ordered stuff off Amazon and got home to discover they had left the package (without me asking them to) leaning against the back door. Luckily I live on a reasonably quiet street but as Amazon didnt tell me they had dispatched the items until the day after I had received them, if someone had robbed them from outside the back door, I would have been none the wiser.
Also my housemate is about to complain to Royal Mail as they have had a parcel of hers for 6 weeks at the sorting office but didnt bother to leave a card telling us this, it was only because she went down on the off-chance that she has now received it. This is the third time its happened to her as well, hence the complaining.
Like Jode* said they know its going to be busy, its Christmas ffs, its at the same damn time every year, you think they would have some system in place!

I don't know why, but whenever I order anything from amazon.com (as opposed to .co.uk), it takes about 20 gazillion years to arrive. I've ordered stuff from other US websites that arrives in under two weeks - I'm lucky to get stuff from amazon.com within two months. Admittedly last time I ordered something from there the reason it was so late was because it turned out to be over the customs limit and was being held at Her Majesty's pleasure while they decided how much to charge me, but what I'm currently waiting for should've been well beneath the threshold. Grrrr.

I'm angry at Amazon for making me £1.74 overdrawn, when I don't have an overdraft, hence putting me at risk of charges.
Ok, fair enough, I thought I had 20 quid more in my bank than I did, but I would never have taken a tenner out of my bank had Amazon did what every other company do. You know how when you order stuff, it doesn't come out of your account straight away, but when you go to the hole in the wall it gives you two balances - your account balance, and the actual amount you can take out which is less than the account balance if you've ordered stuff with your card and it hasn't cleared yet. Well, I had an account balance of 41 quid with 19.70 available balance last Friday, because I had ordered tickets off ticketmaster earlier that day. On the Wednesday I had ordered 24 quid of stuff off Amazon. Because this wasn't coming up in my account balance, I assumed it had already come off. When it says you can take out 19.70, that should mean you can take out 19.70 if you so wish, so I took out a tenner. Turns out Amazon hadn't even done the provisional taking-out thing that Ticketmaster had managed to do within a day (ye ken, that thing that's supposed to happen automatically when you use your card to buy anything), and Amazon just plain took the money out yesterday.
Therefore I started screaming down the phone at Sainsburys, thinking that the 11 odd quid they were due to return to my account after I returned a DVD hadn't been returned to my account but rather taken off again for a second time. No. Amazon are just incompetant and treat their customers like piggy banks to dip in and out of as they please.

Amazon and Play have been pretty good for me so far, all the stuff I ordered off them last week arrived this week. I'm still waiting for a comic* off ebay though.
My postman can be a bit ropey though, he leaves parcels next to the door if no one's in, and anyone could nick it.
*Yes, I'm quite the intellect, dontcha know.

Amazon has gone really shoddy lately. As has the post. I'm waiting for my student discount card thingie to come, which by rights I shouldn't really have, so the post is delaying whether I've wasted £10 or not. I'm hoping they won't give a shit and send it anyway, but until it arrives I dont know!

Okay so my Amazon item still hasn't been dispatched.
I phoned the helpline and they had a special message assuring people that everyone whose estimated delivery date is before Christmas, will get it before Christmas.
Surely this is madness. Even if they posted it out today I doubt Roayl Mail would get it to me by Monday. And anyway, I won't be here on Monday.
I need it TOMORROW. That is why I placed the order on the 12th, 6 days before your last in-time-for-Christmas delivery date, you cunts.
The funny thing is, my estimated dispatch date still says the 16th December - ha ha ha!

I was very nearly put in the embarrassing position of having to ring Oxfam and berate them for non-arrival of a goat I had ordered. Ordered it 4 days before the last Christmas delivery date. Money taken from account the day after. The website said that all orders should arrive within 3 days. 8 days later and goat has finally arrived.
It would have been a bit bad (at Christmas!) to ring Oxfam and say something along the lines of:
"Yeah, I gave you 25 quid for a goat. I have no goat so I want my money back. I don't care about the starving poor people at CHRISTMAS."

Yeah I ordered some computers from Oxfam. They ended up getting delivered to some school in AFRICA! What a shambles.

I'm waiting on The Mighty Boosh series one and two boxset for one of my friends (bargain if you don't mind waiting a while, £10)
It's from HMV.co.uk , who are notoriously shit for delivery. But they had their last "order for Christmas" date as 17th December! I ordered on the 5th of December! There'll be a few disappointed folks this Christmas.

I'm so angry at Amazon. When I placed my order last Tuesday there was a bunch of stuff that wouldn't get here for X-Mas even if I did that super expensive next day thingy. As a result I rejigged my order for stuff that would get here for christmas. After doing this I found out one of my friends wouldn't be about for X-Mas anyway, so I could give her her stuff in the new year so I then placed a new order and did that on supersave, as while it said it wouldn't be here for X-Mas I guess it would be here by the 10th of January when she returns.
So today the doorbell rings and Mr. Postman is there with my Amazon package. While its last minute I'm glad Amazon delivered it in time and I open it to wrap my presents. Lo and Behold there is my supersave order which wouldn't get here by christmas and my proper order is nowhere to be seen. I went mad and got in touch with Amazon who assured me it was being delivered today, and I was to give it til 5pm as there is a backlog and it will get here. Needless to say 5pm came and no package has arrived and now I can't get any response off Amazon. Now I have had to run down Sommerfield and bought a lot of crap and I have also opened some of my own presents and re-wrapped them for friends (Bye Bye Abigails Party DVD and Kylie Album).
I'm never doing Christmas shopping online again, thank god for vodka.

The non-appearance of my internet orders did stress me out a bit this year, although the Daniel Craig tea towels (disappointing quality despite being from Emma Bridgewater) and Cath Kidston tea cosies I ordered did arrive JUST in time. (It was a very tea-themed Christmas for my friends). Also, the P&P bumps up the cost big time. The P&P for the 2 tea towels was £5!
I have to say though, if the stuff hadn't arrived I would have just told my mates and given it to them later, they're not getting my presents!

A news story, that isn't from our friends at DigitalSpy:
Amazon reports bumper Christmas
Online retail giant Amazon.com says the 2007 holiday season was its strongest since the firm began trading in 1994. On its busiest day, 10 December, customers ordered more than 5.4 million items - 62.5 books, DVDs and other products per second.
By comparison, on last year's busiest day, 11 December, customers ordered four million items.
Top sellers included Nintendo's Wii video game system, satellite navigation devices and high-definition TVs.
The news of bumper sales sent the company's shares up more than 2% in US trading on Wednesday.
"I think a later peak order day illustrates the increased confidence that consumers have in Amazon," said Amazon's UK managing director Brian McBride said.
"Customers are now happy to order much closer to Christmas as they trust the fact that we will deliver on time."
Hollywood blockbuster The Bourne Ultimatum was Amazon's best-selling UK DVD, followed by The Simpsons Movie and Shrek The Third.
