I spent years under the belief that this was golden age, run-home-from-school unmissably classic TV. Then someone bought me the videos and it's just so boring. There is only so much fun you can have with laughing at the abysmal animation (in the bit where Dogtanian proves his skill by slicing an apple in midair - a series of apple-coloured feathers just hang there as a series of arm actions fade from one to the other), and Dogtanian's most frequently used line is "waaoowaawaa" in a whiny voice.
I even managed to misremember the theme tune. My version was so much better. It had more musical yapping dogs.

But did you remember the bit in the theme tune that goes, "Tra la la, tra la la" in the bridge?

Lord, it went on forever, didn't it? And what was all that business with Queen Anne with her silly neck fur and English 'lover'? It took over the programme in the later stages.
It wasn't, however, as dull as 80 Days Around the World with Willy Fogg (because Phileas was too difficult for the kids, you see).

I don't remember the plots of any of the cartoons of my childhood. Like The Mysterious Cities Of Gold. All together now - Aaaaaaaaaaah, ah-ah-ah-aaaaaaaaaaaaaah, someday we will find........

There were meant to be seven, they only found three and Esteban's Dad was alive, well and working as a High Priest in an Inca temple.
And the Olmecs scared the living shit out of me with their live organ transplant plot.

I remember that, it used to be on the same day/morning as Dogtanian... Worzel Gummidge, that programme about Sinbad the tiger pirate thing and the almighty Dungeons and Dragons were also shown on the same day. Or it could have been in the holidays so they were all on on different weekdays. But either way, it was greatness.

And don't diss Willy- he tha baddest cat on tha seven seas, home. All yo haterz can STEP OF MUTHA FUCKERZ!!! Anyway, Tico and Rigadon did all the ace stuff while Willy went off and did boring crap like getting married to the biggest cat in the world. His wife was crap. And the size of a boat. The theme tune was ace as anything and for some random reason they later decided to journey to the centre of the earth, which required a tiny bit of adjustment to the ace theme tune.

I've just treated myself to the dvd - a bargain at £8.99 from HMV online!
The perfect Christmas treat.

I had fond memories of Dogtanian, but then I got the DVD off ebay and it was shit. So boring. I must have been easily amused.

I would rather not sully my memories of Dogtanian by seeing it again. I always remember when I went off to university in my first year European History lecture the lecturer showed a slide of Cardinal Richelieu while discussing the power of the Catholic Church across Europe. Many of us immediately started pointing out to each other "But he should be a greyhound" across the lecture hall.

Absolutely, I bet she'd be quite mucky in bed if Dogtanian ever got the chance. There seemed to be a plethora of hot female cartoon characters at that time - I'm thinking Cindy Bear, Penelope Pitstop and Evil Lynn.

We have someone at work that looks like Juliet from Dogtanian.

My sister was utterly terrified of Dogtanian. A brief interlude of the theme tune today sent her cowering.
Not that I am in any way going to exploit this knowledge.

The real highlight of all those badly-dubbed cartoons (how you can dub a cartoon badly is beyond me but they somehow managed) for me was the karaoke-style sing-a-long they used to have in The Broom Cupboard. I can't quite remember whether this was during Andy Crane or Philip Schofield's reign in The Broom Cupboard.

It was Andy Crane. He used to vogue with Edd the Duck
But...wasn't Dogtanian on CITV?

I think i blanked dogtanian II out of my mind, all i remember are dogtanian mini boys and juliet mini girls as their kids. Oh and didn't milady somehow escape the executioner to threaten them again.
Speaking of milady why did Dogtanian always fall for her when she was in disguise? And as for the bad dubbing, i think the bad translation was even worse 'oh i forgot I couldn't swim' being one line that im sure made more sense in Fench.
I do love the show though. The Black Moustache was the most ineffectual baddie ever!
