They do have a habit of using local 'stars' when a show hits Scotland though, but as this is usually Elaine C Smith I think we should be safe with this production. I can't actually think of anyone who could do the part. Maybe Joe McFadden. More likely we'd get someone from River City or the guy who advertises 'Hawkhead Carpets'! I'm trying to decide if Shellsuit Bob would have been an improvement on Alfie or not...

Saw Wicked last night. Still humming all the songs. Kerry Ellis is fantastic as Elphaba, and Susie Blake is Madam Morrible! You are going to *love* Ugly Betty this week. Hee! The timing was perfect, wasn't it?

I've bought Christmas tickets for me and the boyfriend to see Spamalot in a couple of weeks. Not my top choice for a show to see, but he's very excited, and I'm looking forward to it.

Just to let you know that Spamalot was indeed hilarious, and the Lady of the Lake is phenomenal.

I saw Zoe Wannamaker get absolutely soaking wet in Much Ado about Nothing in the National on Monday. Sadly she wasn't singing It's Raining Men at the time.
It's all very good though. She's a game old bird is Zoe.
Also the man playing Claudio is fucking hawtness. And all the men stride around wearing amazing strutting boots. I so want a pair.

Saw Wicked yesterday. Really enjoyed it and I can understand why it's so different from the book. I think both work on their own merits.

Opening in February is The Vortex, directed by Sir Peter Hall and starring some Lowculture favourites.
Felicity Kendal! (who doesn't need a list of things she's been in) Dan Stevens! (the hot one from The Line Of Beauty and Sense & Sensibility) Phoebe Nicholls! (the awful mother of the jailbait boy from Clapham Junction)
and last but not least
ANNETTE BADLAND!
ANNETTE BADLAND, live on stage, in a Noel Coward play. (In Richmond)

I'd like to see Annette Badland's list of things she's been in. It must stretch to almost a book in width.

I've just got back from seeing Avenue Q (featuring Daniel Boys). It was absolutely bloody brilliant.
Daniel Boys is fitter on the telly though. But I love every second, especially the Scahdenfreude song. And the puppet sex

Sparkle and I are going to see Daniel Boys in Avenue Q TWO WEEKS TODAY!
I'm very excited. I really hope my theatre curse, that means whenever I go to a show because of a specific person, they're always ill and their understudy is on instead, does not strike on this occasion.

A preview of the Liverpool Capital of Culture (TM) events said that there was a new production of Three Sisters on at the Everyman, adapted by TRACY-ANN OBERMAN. I almost booked tickets until I realised she wasn't actually in it.

Does anyone know of a Shakespeare being put-on anywhere? I need to watch a live performance before March - the National Theatre one, and the Ewan one is sold out.

There is a version of the Tempest somewhere in London. They've turned Prospero into a muslim terrorist. It sounds dreadful, really.
Sorry can't recall where.

As I walked into Waterloo yesterday, I'm sure I saw a big thing scrolling across the Royal Festival Hall saying MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

Looking around the Sheffield listings, there's a Reduced Shakespeare thingy in April at the Lyceum and a ballet of Romeo and Juliet in May. Neither of which help you. It's a shame The Crucible is closed for refurbishment, as they usually do a Shakespeare around this time of year. There's a Romeo and Juliet on at the end of March at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, and the Leeds Grand Theatre has a ballet of Hamlet in Feb (also in Nottingham in March). The RSC in Stratford-Upon-Avon has a series on history plays on at the mo: www.rsc.org.uk/content/5013.aspxThe Birmingham Alexandra has Shakespeare for kids on Feb 25th and the Nottingham Playhouse has a Shakespeare youth festival March 13-14th. In London, Othello is on at the Donmar Warehouse, Hamlet and Twelfth Night at Wyndhams, Midsummer... at The Unicorn, Much Ado at the National Thatre Olivier, The Tempest at Greenwich and the Rose Theatre, Kingston.

Gosh, it's all gone a bit Highculture around here hasn't it?
Just to lower the tone, my most recent theatrical experience was Stingray from Neighbours in panto in Stevenage. He played Buttons. And had a magic button, which made fireworks go off. My stepsister and I got a bit rude at that.
