Watched the Man U - Roma game in the pub with my mum. It was a very boring game but the undoubted highlight was seeing Eric Cantona in the audience. I hope he comes back to football (although probably just as a manager as he is a bit old). I miss him being all philosophical and French. Plus tonight he had a beard and a bit of a Jose style overcoat and really did look quite do-able.

Carlos Bocanegra has left Fulham! Even worse, they released him, like the 7th single from a Janet Jackson album. I never liked that al Fayed man.
He's one of the most beautiful footballers around, and it's his birthday on Sunday. Some birthday that'll be!
Did anyone watch The Cesc Fabregas Show? I don't know if it was on Sky One or Sky Sports, but I saw the first fifteen minutes online and it was ever so slightly surreal. His mother is quite the fox.

Now, I admit that Andy Murray's comeback last night was very impressive. I still don't like him (he's very similar to Lleyton Hewitt in temperament, and I don't like him either). I also admit that Murray has the potential to win major events if he continues to improve.
However, I am already getting a bit sick of the BBC fawning all over him. Yesterday's interview with poor Richard Gasquet was terrible - the interviewer spent the second half of the interview trying to get Gasquet to say how amazing Murray was, and big up his chances against Nadal in the next round. Would the interviewer have done that about Gasquet if Murray had lost? Of course not.
FYI, this is about THE TENNIS.

I saw this and it was just embarassing. You could tell Gasquet was just rolling his eyes at the ridiculousness of the British media getting all carried away. The guy just would not let up practically forcing him to say that Murray was gonna end up winning Wimbledon it was so unnecessary. Agree that Murray's comeback was utterly unbelievable but i do find it quite difficult to support him as I just don't really like the guy. I much prefer Nadal but I do hope Murray gives him a real go. Although I don't think I could bear it if he won, the press would probably implode.

That Andy Murray managed to win the match was a mixture of him playing a lot better in the fourth and fifth sets but Gasquet's game collapsing. Some of Gasquet's shots in the final set were so off it was if he was trying to lose on purpose.
The one thing I *HATE* about Andy Murray is his bint of mother popping up here there and everywhere to champion him. Judy, love, your sons are 21 and 22 - they can speak for themselves, please step away from the microphones. Admittedly she's not quite as bad as the fathers of Mary Pierce or Jelena Dokiæ and I doubt she used to beat them with wire hangers when they were younger but the woman's constant perkiness and craving for attention unnerves me.

I dunno, given she's managed to do more for British tennis hopes with her offspring than the whole of the LTA combined, I think she should probably be allowed her moment in the sun...
Jamie seems to have all the personality, but less of the talent, so I can only presume that being dour and a little over-aggressive does wonders for your tennis-playing ability.
Still at least its a change from Tim 'I'm agressive. No really, I am. Grrr...' Henman. And it was a fabulous match – even if Gasquet did get a bit crapper towards the end, he was still pretty decent, and it was only because Murray fought like an absolute dog in the middle that he was in a position to take advantage of it.

But poor Jamie's actually WON Wimbledon, and he gets completely ignored. Poor sod.
Any pleasure I may have had at Andy Murray getting through was destroyed by that "muscle man" gesture. Urgh.

I'm so happy for Marat Safin. I've been a fan of his for ages, but he's never achieved his potential at Wimbledon. For him to finally make the semi-final here (even if it was at the expense of my previous favourite Djokovic in the 2nd round) is fantastic.

Well, Younger Murray was a bit of a let-down really tonight really unfortunately. Though he probably never had a hope of beating Nadal given just how amazing he's playing at the moment.
Still at least, once again, Jamie Murray quietly makes it through to the Mixed Double Semis as the last remaining Brit. Someone might actually notice him now...
Safin against Federer ought to be awesome. I almost wish that it could have been the final, cos I really don't want either of them to go out.

Murray was never going to beat the force that is Nadal. I think he may win it this year. I'm not the biggest fan of Andy Murray either, but he's the best we have and we have to put up with it - until the lovely Chris Eaton comes up the ranks and gets better and better at the game. He's very lush, even though his cap covered his face most of the time.
However, Wimbledon for me was very empty this year, because of the lack of the lovely Martina Hingis. Oh Martina - did you really take the crack? DID YOU?

I have to say I was backing Nadal yesterday. His massive arm and manga-mouth slightly freak me out, but overall he's much cooler than dweebie Andy Murray.

Well that was quite frankly unbelievable. No one deserves to lose when the tennis is that amazing.
I wanted R Fed to win because I love his cardie and that comeback would've been incredible but you have to say Nadal was an utter powerhouse today. They both deserved it it was astounding.
Nadal is ridiculously cute tho when he won but poor Rog. He looked like he was going to cry.

I thought both of the singles finals this year were amazing. People complain about how it being a Williams/Nadal-Federer final all the time is too predictable, but if they produce the quality of those two matches then I don't see why you'd care.
Seeing poor Roger in his silly cardie looking all sad in the rain and twilight made me a little bit weepy I have to admit...

It's sad that the 'on-trend' finalists - Roger in his mancardigan, and Serena in her mini-trenchcoat - didn't win.
But that does make it two major sporting victories for Spain in as many weeks, so viva Espana.

The only match i've ever seen that came close to that was the Rafter / Ivanesevic 5-set Wimbledon Final a few years back, which probably just edged it on sheer excitement what with it being played on a Monday with crowd of totally devoted fans. But the quality of the tennis today was just unbelievable. They're just a class apart.
I'll get excited about womens tennis when they start playing 5 sets at the grand slams. But still, Venus was a deserving winner.
Great Wimbledon all round, really. I miss Jimmy Connors though - the Beeb needs to drag him back!

I thought about that match, too. I was going to be seriously pissed off if they'd had to finish today - think of all the offices around the country taking their lunchbreaks at the same time and scooting off to find a TV! Not that I watched the end of the tennis anyway, because we had to go and save a bird that was being attacked by a magpie outside our window, when it was deuce in the last game. Next thing I know Nadal's lying on the floor, everyone's screaming and I have to find a bloody box for this bird that's shivering with fear. So glad Nadal won though. I was cheering for Fed to get back into the match, and after that it was all on Rafa. Yay for first Wimbledon win!

Blimey, tennis might be my favourite sport! I was so happy for Nadal.
I feel guilty now for swithering as to whether Nadal was officially hot. I decided yesterday at tea time that he would definitely get it. He seems very sweet whereas Federer looks like a big boring bastard. And I like his hair. I think Nadal would have won sooner if his pants hadn't been constantly creeping up his bum.
I got a bit sick of looking at Gavin Rossdale though. I'm sure that Gwen was pissed off at him blocking the camera's view of her throughout.

It was them! I thought it was - but why were they there? Mates with Fed. Gavin was getting well into it - well unsurprisngly as it was awesome but still, Gwen looked pretty relaxed about the whole thing.

I thought she looked really bored, although I saw in the paper today that she is in the advanced stages of being up the duff so maybe she was knackered. Rossdale was a tad hooligan-like for Wimbledon. Federer seems like a rather un rock n roll bloke to be friends with, I would rather be pals with Nadal and his massive Hellboy arm.

I'm still not entirely clear on how the tennis rankings work, but apparently Federer is still world number 1, even though Nadal has won the French Open, Queens and Wimbledon in the past couple of months.
It looked like an absolutely phenomenal match. I got occasional glimpses on BBCi on the computers at work, without sound. If any of it's on iplayer this week, I'll try to have a proper look. As people have said, best final since Ivanisevic won.

Yes, Gwen Stefani looked utterly, utterly bored throughout, bless. I manage to sit down and watch a match every, ooh, two years. It usually turns out to be an epic 4+-hour one. That was just the best Sunday in ever (I also watched The Godfather for the first time.) Nadal's backside is just too much to take in. Literally. And who knew how pretty he'd become when he took off the headband and smiled? I feel a picture coming on:
