After THIS extremely scary moment that occured about 15 minutes ago, I no longer need to give a shit about my studies this year. But come October I will be shiting it once more and may need serious help.

Ooh, congratulations SomeBib!
Parton has fucked me over, big time. It turns out that the second verse of 9 to 5 can actually be interpreted as 'piss about around town, then go to the cinema and maybe eat more Muller Crunch Corners than you really should in one day". Now I'll be up all night.

Pfft, don't get me started on that amateur. She only ever dabbles in the odd Frube.
Only 700 more words to write now and then it's goodbye forever to my least favourite module. Hooray.

How on earth do you get an unconditional offer? And what course have you chosen? I remember being so excited about choosing courses and going on tours.

Ah, I forgot to say the course, haha, MA Sociology & Anthropology. I had AAAB plus I'm doing an advanced higher and 2 more highers this year, and the entry requirements were ABBB in one sitting or AAA in two sittings, so already had more than what was needed for 2 years worth. I did 5 highers but I, along with everyone else in the class bar 4 people, completely failed maths. I don't even have a single qualification in maths, as they wouldn't let us do standard grade - they made us do int 2 instead, which is basically the same thing except in a better format as it's more like higher but easier, but unlike standard grade, is not foolproof. With a standard grade, you're ALWAYS going to pass at at least one of the levels you do, so you're not left with anything, but I was. So anyone who ever says you need maths qualifications for anything other than maths-related things is a big fat liar!

I will never understand the Scottish education system.
Although the times I sit at work thinking "I would have done this two hours ago if I had a Statitistics A-level and an IT GCSE" are so numerate that I'm not qualified to count them or to let an Excel spreadsheet do it for me.
Take maths seriously kids!

Anyone here done a language degree and/or a translation diploma? Been looking at the two possible trans. courses I could do once I do my French degree and they look pretty impossible. I'm now having a panic that my life plan (get a French degree, get a DipTrans, go live in France in the sun) might not work out. What else could I do with a pure language degree?
Congrats, somethingbiblical, by the way!

Language degrees seem to lead to teaching, translation or call centre work from the people I know who have them. One has her own successful translation business, so it can be pretty good work.

I use maths loads at work but then again I'm one of those freaks that actually quite liked it at school.

There is that problem of having absolutely no money though and really not wanting a full time job. Now is the time to spend my days playing cards and being a wanker to the teachers.

I have lots of work to do for tomorrow and have spent the day so far not doing it, instead choosing to watch Jonathan Creek boxsets. I'm not studying implausible criminology or anything so it won't help in the slightest. Why do I not have motivation like a proper person?

Sparkle and I are going to the British Library on Saturday to do some research. We arranged it via the LC chat room which proves even drunken shenanigans can be conducive to study.

My thesis came back with twice as many revisions as I wanted/needed making it almost impossible for me to go to the graduation ceremony this summer.
Boo :-(
In good news, the removing the deadline pressure of late March means that I can actually address the problems I have with the thesis. That is definitely A Good Thing.

I have this really big assignment where I have to meet somebody famous in person and interview them. It is due a week on Monday. My interviewee, Keith Jack, has cancelled on me three days running and I don't think it's going to happen, so I'm in desperate, desperate need of someone else to interview. If anyone knows of any celebrities who would be willing to take part, or be bullied into it, please, please, please let me know so I can try my best to not fail this class. I'm in Glasgow, but I'm willing to travel a bit if its worthwhile - the more famous the person is, the higher a mark I will get, so even if my completed feature is rubbish I can gain some marks this way.

I'm in my final year of a BSc in Biochemistry and I've only just discovered this thread! Currently finishing my final year project which has been a nightmare - managed to get assigned to a supervisor who has NO interest in how I'm doing or getting on so have basically been left to my own devices since last September.
Now that I'm in my last week he's suddenly had a fit of conscience and now want's to help me as much as possible (although personally I think he is just covering his ass).

My dissertation was a sodding nightmare and I only got 56% for it because my supervisor was a cunt who favouritised and gave me absolutely no help. I flew solo the whole way and am just very impressed that I managed to do so well without any guidance from those who are meant to know what they were doing.

I'm half way through my Art Foundation and am in the process of applying to Uni to do Textile Design. Currently the bane of my life is my portfolio which I am still trying to cobble together at the last minute! More worryingly, I have an interview at Norwich School of Art and Design tomorrow and there's still so much I haven't done. And the the Uni only sent me the letter telling me to come 12 days ago! Too much stress for words, especially as we are supposed to have started a new printing project at college and I have yet to read the brief let alone do anything about it. Grrrrrrrr, I don't like art and design, it's all just too much hard work!
Wow, that was quite a self-centered post. On a more inclusive note, anyone had to do portfolio's of their own and have some useful advice for me? Would be muchly appreciated.

Your portfolio is basically a summery of everything you can do. You want to start with strong work, have weaker material in the middle, and end with strong work. If you have trouble self editing your work, then talk to a good tutor and get them to help you pick pieces. You want to show a range of skills and styles - say for a general art & design course, you'd want to have art, illustration, painting, photography, letterheads, and various graphic design for example. Something else more and more uni's want these days is to see how your brain works and how you come up with and refine ideas, so take a couple of sketch books with you - stuff that is rough, thumbnails, scribblings, research - anything like that. Expect people to hate your work, (they won't, but its good to be prepared and it wont throw you in the interview if it does happen) and be prepared to explain everything you did and why you did it. Good luck.

Has anyone else had problems with their loans? My Uni put the fees up to 3070, but my tutition fee loan will only let me have 3000, even though i filled out an extra form.

My loan just isn't big enough to pay for everything I want.
In other news, I now have a person to interview for my assignment, and I'm incredibly, incredibly nervous. A lot of you seem to be media types, do you have any tips on how to not be a complete wreck when doing this sort of thing? I don't want any of that cliched "just be yourself" advice, I've spent a semester of lectures being given that vaguely helpful abstract advice. I want practical tips, like if there's a spot I can pinch myself to stop shaking or something.

Thanks for the help Moog, my tutors have been spectacularly unhelpful but a friend at another collage who had loads of advice has been a lot more constructive. I think the interview went alright, not sure what they thought, but it wasn't painful so I'm hoping for the best. (Thankfully its not my top choice so I'm easing my self in gently to this whole malarky)
Gahh, have just checked my my emails and I have an unconditional offer!!!!!
And I have interviews for Nottingham Trent and Portsmouth too, unfortunately on the same day so I need to write to one and ask for another date. Anyone know the likelihood of getting another interview?
