I was pretty much the same... It's all been good.
I sent an email, but drink had been taken so I'm not sure if any sense was passed on. Still, it's the thought that counts.
All the best, and indeed many thanks, to all the LC "crew".

Happy Birthday everyone, and lots of love to Paul Mr Lowculture for getting this whole thing going in the first place.
Thank you all for brightening up my life and teaching me that Hollyoaks and the x Factor may be dreadful, but there is always merit in ripping them to shreds.

Happy Birthday fellow lowculturists! I can't believe it's been five years the site has been around, it kept me amused all through Law School and I blame lowculture fully for making me ditch all my law ways to go back to uni to do a Film & TV degree. Without lowculture I would still be a lawyer, and where is the fun in that!
I hope Paul and all the other lowculture mods get drunk and celebrate tonight and watch Angel era Crossroads, Romy & Michele's Highschool Reunion and Terri McIntyre - Classy Bitch on an infinite loop!

Thanks to everyone who sent me their memories - I chopped up some bits and bobs and used them on the homepage but there was so much I couldn't use everything, so please post it all up here instead as it was all great!

I was made redundant in 2006 (well, if The X Factor has taught me anything, it's that sob stories are a vital neccessity) and was very bored. I succumbed to the lure of Hollyoaks, something I had given up in the late 90s. I didn't have a clue what was going on, so I googled it. I was transported to this place where people were discussing the show's merits and abundant flaws in great measure - I knew I was home when I saw the mockery of Hollyoaks' rape culture, a staple feature of the show since its inception.
Since then I have loved the Saturday night drunken chat room antics, the LOLyoaks macros that only we understand, Mr Lowculture's Jane Asher love, the sweepstakes, the chats about everything from Any Dream Will Do to Come Dine With Me to My Fake Baby, and the anticipation of whose pithy quotes will be chosen for the front page. My proudest moment last year was seeing us in The Independent.

Congrats all - I only joined 2 years ago, but I knew I'd love it as this was my first post
"I was very surprised to hear Joan Collins utter the F word with such finesse and aplomb.
Wouldn't it be great if she had a underground lair a la 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', with thousands of little rescued Paolos chained up and being controlled by her icy stare
Maybe they could also be digging for the elixir of everlasting life, or at least a decent bottle of moisturiser. Maybe not! "
I may not get the chance to watch as much wonderful telly as a lot of you, but you always make me smile. Here's to the next 5/10/20 years.

GO TEAM LOWCULTURE! Congratulations on being old enough to start school. In fact you probably could have been there for a year unless you showed earlier signs of being being remedial, which of course you don't. Wonderful funny, clever Lowculture. Like any other time of celebration, this calls for a Kylie medley watched by members of the Corrie cast and Emma Forbes: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9LosUvd36E

I found this lovely corner of the internet whilst browsing for more insults to shout at the radio when Jo Whiley was on. After finding the infamous Whiley Watch thread I knew I'd found a good place to talk nonsense with like-minded souls. I exorcised my Whiley demons and moved onto the Soap Culture forum, just at the time when CamRob mania was developing. That's another thing I love about LC - the nicknames. CamRob, Cartyre Kinski, Skoda, Slabface, Rubbish Tranny, NotLouis, and Wikki are the "proper" names now (despite getting odd looks when talking to friends who don't use LC). The reality tv sweepstakes are my favourite though, if only to lighten up the dulldull X Factor. Speaking of X Factor, it isn't the same without having The Bitch Factor blog and the chatroom alongside. The chatroom on Saturday night is especially fun, if only to bitch about Fearne Cotton/Holly Willoughby/Kate Thornton/Tess Daly's wardrobe and slag off Louis Walsh. Anyway! I have rambled on enough now, I'm starting to feel like I should be doing a video link up to a glitzy award ceremony somewhere. Congratulations, back to your hosts, Ant and Dec!

I would like to think that LC would be kind enough to give them a second chance and have Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox present any award show.

Gigliola, who sashsayed her way around Europe to report on Eurovision, was particularly fun. Broken English Babies!

Highlights and memories for me include most reality tv threads, and the nicknames that get created throughout. The sweepstakes are always fun, and we'll of course remember the "unpopular opinions" thread for its hilarious negativity. Oh, and the fact that people like Aisleyne, Nadine Baggott, Martha Jones, Charlie Brooker, Daniel Boys et al receive the admiration/iconic status they deserve.
Basically, though, I'm so happy to be part of a place that makes me laugh on a regular basis; that has introduced me to programmes I never would have tried otherwise; that inspires interesting and humorous debate; and that has a warmth and individual character that I haven't found elsewhere on the web.
And to think that I avoided lowculture for quite a while in the Popjustice heyday cos I thought it wasn't my kind of place...
Happy Birthday lowculture, and thank you for being such a wonderful haven of tv delight!

Probably swimming to Belgrade via Agentina as we speak. I found lowculture by searching for nude pictures of Frenchy.

I think even if lowculture never achieves anything else (which is obviously VERY UNLIKELY), the fact that there will be one less lawyer in the world thanks to this site makes it all worthwhile. Hooray!

LowCulture is the only thing that gets me through the tedium of the working day. I know I can always pop on and there'll be no end of clever and ribticklin' telly talk. Mr LC Paul should be very pleased with himself indeed! Hurray!

Happy Birthday Lowculture!
I think I have been around since 2003. Definitely before the 2004 refit when we all had to rejoin.
I don't post that much, and I am rarely witty, I never change my avatar, and I try to keep a bit anonymous... but it does get me through the day.
Thank you to everyone for their excellent Lost and Heroes theorizing in the spoiler thread (where we never actually post spoilers, we just watch illegally before everyone else).
Thank you for being fellow Gilmore Girls fans when nobody else in the world knows who they are (my boyfriend is still 100% sure that I watch Golden Girls).
I have been on the front page comments only once. And I can't remember what it said. My aim for 2008 is to be featured again!
Love you all (in a non-creepy internet stalker way).

Happy Birthday LC!
I would like to thank you all for continuing my reputation as a strange one after crying with laughter the first time I ever visited here searching for Hollyoaks spoilers, from the Uni library. I don't think I've ever read anything so witty and funny, before or since and certainly not dared to read it in public since.

Happy Birthday!
It would be impossible to explain to non-lowculture people just how much lowculture brightens my boring 9-5 day. I love being able to read the threads throughout the day, and am frequently suprised as to how genuinely concerned I am about the horrible housemates, driving tests, and duck rapes that concern people I - alas - wouldn't recognise in the street. I feel like somehow I have found my spiritual home - particularly when Cathcart was on Location Location and loads of Glasgow southsiders came forward!
In 2008, I promise to start referencing you all rather than passing off your witty and insightful banter as my own! At the very least I'll reference you in my head. Thank you xx

Happy Birthday LC!! I too am very thankful to have you all make me laugh on a daily basis with hilarious threads about Nadine Baggot, Swimbint and Fat Men who sadly cannot hunt. I love watching a brilliant/ funny piece of telly and thinking 'I can't wait to see what everyone on lowculture thinks about this'. And you never disappoint.

Happy Birthday! aw, I remember the site before it even had a forum. I love this place, even though I don't post much these days. It's still the first site I come to when I fire up the internet. I'm still very upset I can no longer see the main site at work.
I had no idea Jamie had gone to China!

aw, I remember the site before it even had a forum. Hehehe, just what I was thinking! Otherwise, ta very much for keeping me entertained over the years - I always read the site daily when I was living over in Australia and reading others' genuine fascination with Tanya Turner used to make me just that little bit closer to home. (and I still yell out 'Monorail!' whenever that episode of the Simpsons in on in regards to Things We Have Seen).
