I have got more and more melancholic, from seeing gorgeous men with bouquets on my bus with Denise being serenaded on Loose Women.
LowCulture will have to be my Valentine

I got two cards, but they were both off girls. However, Rachael at work told me all about her thrush this morning over a bagel so it hasn't been a total let down of a day.

Don't you wish your snack was as tempting as this?

I got a card from my gran. The only card I got. She signed it anonymously but it has her handwriting all over it. The cover said:
"Roses are red, Violets are pluckable You're really sweet I think you're quite..."
Eugh.

"Roses are red, Violets are pluckable You're really sweet I think you're quite..." "...my cup of tea" is how that rhyme ends, unless I'm much mistaken. I'm working this evening, so I left my boyfriend's card and new aftershave on his pillow this morning.

Today I didn't receive any cards, but I did have a dentist appointment this morning, where I was told my teeth were nice. And I also cut my hair earlier. So hurrah.
Or something.

I'm guessing those with boyfriends and love and the like are best to steer clear of this thread?

I have never sent a valentine's card. And I haven't received once since I was in primary school.
This whole thing therefore just passes me by...
Wow, I sound miserable, don't I?

I wanna hear the sweet valentines stories! Maybe Spoiler them though!
I have spent today babysitting, £20 for two hours. Not bad, seeing as he is very cute and was happy to play whilst i played/watched hollyoaks.

You played Hollyoaks? Is that a euphemism for rape I've not heard yet?
Sorry Adrian. I'm just bitter because I'm spending Valentine's here in my dressing gown, pining away and listening to the bombastic soundtrack of a Hitchcock film through my bedroom wall, whilst you're drawing heart shapes in pink icing around a German's nipples (as is my understanding of what loved up couple do for fun).
If only I had a balcony to sing a heartfelt lament on. Do you think my noisy twatty cockney neighbours will let me borrow theirs?

I've never really been bothered about Valentine's day. I am a cynical unromantic git though. I feel a bit like those aliens from Futurama. This concept of 'wuv' confuses and infuriates us!

I'm not that bothered about being all alone like every other year while most of my fucking friends are with their boyfriends who are too good for them and don't still don't appreciate them and rub in it my face at every opporunity. Still, there's next year...
I'll be Robbing the Junky next month.

It's not theft if he's offering it on a plate.

My and my boyfriend are miserable and decided not to do gifts and cards. My boyfriend did buy me a big bottle of Appletise though.
My Valentine's Day was super thrilling because I had to go for my smear test. Woo hoo! I won't go into details to spare male/younger lady lowculturers but it is enough to say it is not fun. Although the good news is that the nurse told me everything looked 'normal' - I think not having a diseased snatch is really all a girl could want on Valentine's Day.

whilst you're drawing heart shapes in pink icing around a German's nipples (as is my understanding of what loved up couple do for fun). Shag around? My boyfriend's not German! The difference is minimal, but critical. I spent the evening making him a handmade card. While I was doing this, I pretended to be on Blue Peter (and dreamt about shagging Gethin when the cameras stopped rolling).

You didn't write that in the card did you? Would take the shine-off.

I haven't had a card in years, although I usually buy my mates packets of Love Hearts as the day approaches.
A while ago I did a car boot sale and going through old LPs for selling, found a valentine I'd been given in Primary 6 hidden in the sleeve of a 'Disney's Greatest Hits'. It had all the 'Postie Postie' poems on the envelope* and I'd tried to take the stamp off as the sender was meant to put their name there to be discovered (although I knew who it was from).
I think the last adult card I got was about 15 years ago! Mind you none of my partnered friends bother about it which I think is a shame.
*Examples:
Postie Postie Do Your Stuff, Take This To, My Wee Cream Puff
or
Postie Postie, Do Not Linger This May Lead To A Ring On My Finger!
They don't sound as innocent now...

I went to the Borderline to see a 'Valentines gig' on the 14th. The staff were all wearing glittery red headbands and had stuck up glittery red hearts everywhere. There were far too many snuggly couples there, but it was on the whole a good way to take my mind off my singledom. In other news, things that are still great after many years of existence...

As Andrew* pointed out last year, February 14th is Chip and PIN day.
Happy 2nd Anniversary!

My favourite thing about Valentine's is a few days later, when M&S reduce their heart shaped champagne truffles to half price.
