Anyone buy this gay men's mag? It's been going for 10 years now. I remember the first time I bought it when I was 17. Brad Pitt on the cover... mmmm...
It is a bit up itself at times though, though sometimes the interviews are quite good.
There aren't really any better gay ones out there though.
There should be a gay version of Heat though (I know it's quite gay but I don't care about women's fashion - I'm not a trannie)

Most of the time.

I honestly don't understand why Attitude is considered so awful -- it says more to me as, and I shudder to say it, a gay man than Gay Times or any of the other publications we've seen come and go ever have.
If anything, isn't Gay Times supposed to be the more sobering, politically minded read? Yet they've succumb to the trap of thinking they need to plaster naked men (and Chris fucking Geary) on their cover, month after month. As for Fluid, Axm, Boyz... isn't Attitude the lesser of the two evils? Either a vaguely aspirational piece of fluff which broadly covers a cosmopolitan 'lifestyle' and touches on relevant social issues (you can't tell me that all the letters they receive for their annual Youth Issue aren't plus points for them) or a selection of what amount to softcore wank mags with bitchy asides and fitness pages? I know which I'd rather.
But we've been here before and this is just going to descend into people slinging their opinions back and forth.
I wish they'd kill off fucking Jools though.

I wish they'd kill off fucking Jools though. Dear Jools: The #1 reason to disparage Attitude. And it has more typos than The Grauniad. But, sadly, it is the best of a bad lot. By far.

And it has more typos than The Grauniad. We gays are flighty creatures. Dear Jools was gone for a month. I can't imagine there was enough public outcry to bring him back?

Fluid was excellent, a much better read and far more down to earth than Attitude.
There is one called Gay UK, but I've never read it. And is Refresh still going?
Fair play to Attitude though, it's hard keeping a gay mag afloat and it's done well to last this long.
I just wish we could get Heat back to the way it used to be when it first started. It's too girly now...

Fair play to Attitude, ten years is a long time for a style mag. I used to get it when I younger, and it had some good interviews and nice art work in it. It is a relatively classy product seeing as it comes from Northern and Shell, but can't quite avoid the cheap sex chat line ads of porn magazines.
It seems to be well distributed, which I think is a good thing. You can pick it up at most railway stations, and was the first 'mainstream' magazine that was glad to gay.
At the hight of brit-pop they had an issue with Jarvis Cocker on the cover, the cover line was 'Cocker gets cocky'. this was enough for WHS to ban it and for police in brighton to demand it was removed from the window of a gay shop.
Anyone remember 'Bona'? it was going to be a gay mens weekly sort of in the stlye of 'Chat'. It folded after one issue, it was crap.

I wonder: were they being smart or stupid? Stupid I think, they said it was from Polari, ie 'Bona to Vada' means good to see you - Bona means good. I've just remembered another magazine launched around the same time 'Phase' anybody? No? there was a big fly poster campagain for it, pictures of different people with the slogan 'It's not just a Phase' - turned out it was, I think there were three issues at most before it went tits up.

I dont want all that kind fo shit in a celebrity magazine. If I want to read that I'll buy one that does it better. Sneak's gone down that road as well and is utterly shit now.

And although I may think Attitude is a steaming pile of puppy poo...at least I'm not a lesbian and stuck with Diva.
So, swings and roundabouts.

But, sadly, it is the best of a bad lot. That's got to be the best way to describe it. Actually I don't think Attitude is so naff. When lacking better reading material it's observations on gay culture can be an alright read. Plus I was in the clubbers section in January's issue, and I didn't shut up about it for the whole month it was on sale. I suck.

I shall reiterate.
Any publication which has Josh Cunting Rafter on the payroll must be burnt down immediately.
Incidently doesn't that editor guy have the funniest lisp ever? Hes always whoring himself on Top 100 Toothbrushes or suchlike. The photo of him inside the magazine is very complimentary.

I've subscribed to Attitude since about issue 3 and don't have any complaints about it. (if you don't like it don't buy it). The celeb interviews are generally entertaining and often the photoshoots quite attractive and in their time have been cuting edge. Not sure who was first to do a naked issue - Attitude or Sky - but it always sells out within weeks. As for other publications - as freebies go, I quite like a copy of Bent.

The kind of things Attitude tells me (i.e. what's 'happening') has no relevance to my life. That's why I stopped my Face subscription too... I stopped caring about what magazines thought was 'happening' and just did/do the things I think are interesting. I think monthly magazine are not up-to-the-minute enough for listings. So, in summary, I prefer something like "The Guide" in the Guardian to tell me what's going on.

I felt slightly embarrassed about being a girl and buying it, etc, but I really enjoyed it, apart from Dear Jools. I'm not a big fan of fashion stuff and clothes things, which is why I have pretty much stopped reading Heat. I don't find many magazines interesting now, and I know Attitude is a magazine for gay men, but I found it to be accessible for me, although obviously it was written by/for gay men. Yanno?

The best gay magazine is sQueeze ( www.squeeze.nl) Shame it's in Dutch! I may write for them.

Well, nailing my colours to the mast, I really enjoy Attitude. There may occasionally be the odd dull issue, but I do genuinely look forward to it coming out. I have tried to give other mags a go (e.g. Refresh; AXM) but they don't have the same slight irreverence that appeals to me in Attitude. They do generally score pretty big interview coups and manage to have a broad editorial policy to keep things fresh. I wouldn't expect any magazine to provide me with a complete blueprint for what I should buy; wear; watch or listen to (I'm a grown up now, I can make those decisions myself!) but do enjoy reading a gay magazine that isn't overly preachy or worthy.
Like (it would seem) most other people I hate the Dear Jools page, that should have been put to bed years ago. My only other (minor)complaint is that whilst I have no embarrassment about buying or reading it in public, whenever I read it on a train I always manage to get to the porno ads at the back as some sweet old lady is sitting next to me. I wish they could achieve more mainstream advertising without needing pages of blokes with their knobs out.

What are penisvergroters? I have to say with some shame that I really like BUTT. It does have all the pretentiousness of a significant art school compressed between it's seedy pink sheets, but it interviews people you wouldn't find in many other publications and doesn't pretend that homosexuality is anything other than spurning the laws of Yahweh.

Yes, I remember Phase. It was launched at the same time as Attitude, with the difference that while Attitude was owned by evil porn barons (with deep pockets), Phase was owned by some rich(ish) gay, (possibly Ivan Massow, although my memory could be deceiving me), which therefore allegedly made it intrinsically better. They were wrong. They launched at the 'Gay Lifestyles Exhibition' in Olympia (anyone remember that? what a fucking waste of time).

More dildoes than you could shake a rubber fist at.
