Chapter 3? Which part?
Oh Mr Norrell?
I have started the Jonathan Strange bit about page 250. It's a great book and it's so well-written.
The footnotes are really detailed and very interesting.

I feel like the only person in the world who couldn't really get on with this book - whenever the story gets really interesting it stops and there's another hundred-page description of a battle which just makes me lose the will to live. I realised that I was skipping huge chunks, so thought what's the point of reading it then and stopped.

No I agree - it was really boring. It took me about 3 months to read in the end and I haven't touched it again since this post in 2004!

Three months still feels like quite an impressive time, all things considered. I've been reading it for two months now and I've still got 350 pages to go. I quite like it, but there are definitely points where it really starts to sag. Every time the gentleman with the thistle-down hair turns up to talk to Stephen Black I find myself thinking "oh no, not again".

I got it for Easter when it first came out (I thought it was a chocolate egg brand).
I tried reading it- God knows I tried but it felt like reading a Blackadder The Third script without any of the laughs. I just found it a little dry.
