The Gum Theif
Another new book - A funny but brutal lesson in how not to communicate (or so it says)
There's a copy floating around the office, I'll take it home to read.

I find Coupland so pretentious. He can write, but he chooses to arse it all up with 'concept'.

I find Coupland so pretentious. He can write, but he chooses to arse it all up with 'concept'. Not to mention the fact that he only knows how to write one type of character. I've only read two of his books - Girlfriend In A Coma, a genuinely original and thought-provoking work let down by characters that are navel-gazing bores, and Microserfs, a chore from start to finish largely due to its characters who are all - yes! - navel-gazing bores.

I bought Shampoo Planet 14 years ago. Perhaps one day I will get around to reading it.

If only he would calm the fuck down and write less books. He churns them out so fast I can't keep up, and if he just sat back and thought about them more, he'd realise some of his ideas are a bit arse and he'd plan them better. Hey Nostradamus! was the last good one, and even that wasn't brilliant.

And what the FUCK was with the end of Girlfriend?
"Oh, we're all going back to the past to shout at people in the street for reasons never made clear"
Surely "And then I woke up and it was all a dream" would have been simpler.

The Canadian tv series of Jpod has been very nice, very Lowculture, but is now very axed.
Very annoyed.
