obviously the greatest comic book of all time. Sire I beg to differ and will postulate that V for Vendetta is actually a better comic.

ok. i don't agree, obviously. but i would love to have the argument, particularly as both are brilliant and if anyone's persuaded to try either it's a victory of a sort.
so why would you say v for vendetta is better?
or, if you'd rather, what's your favourite aspect of v for vendetta?
and what comes third?

ok. i don't agree, obviously. but i would love to have the argument, particularly as both are brilliant and if anyone's persuaded to try either it's a victory of a sort. so why would you say v for vendetta is better? or, if you'd rather, what's your favourite aspect of v for vendetta? and what comes third? Reasons why V for Vendetta is better: 1: The art. Lloyd is so much more suited to V than Gibbons is to Watchmen. Whilst Watchmen is enjoyable I feel that it should have a more dark art style. (Although the fact it looks like any Superman comic of the 60's-80's is probably the point.) 2: V. The way that V's history is slowly revealed over the course of the run makes him a more rounded character. (In the same way that Watchmen does the same with EVERY character.) 3: The Hero DIES. Spoiler if you haven't read it but the ending is so downbeat. The only way V can start the revolution is if he/she/it dies and the legend lives on. (See also Watchmen and New York.) 4: The villain is not a villain. The villain is not actually a bad person, more misguided and there are others within the story who are actual killers/rapists etc and these people obviously disgust him. (See also Watchmen where the villain is convinced he is doing it for the right reasons.) 5: "I cried when I heard about the elephants." : the single greatest comics line ever. (See also Watchmen and the Republic Serials villain quote.) 6: The fact that despite the book being called V for Vendetta and there being a character called V, he/she/it doesn't actually appear in almost half of the story. (See also Watchmen.) 7: The Doctor who regrets her actions and finally confronts her greatest regret only to have it kill her. (See also Watchmen and the death at the start that kick starts the whole story.) In short Watchmen is just a remake of V and IMHO is not as powerful or gripping. It's still one of my top two favourites of all time. As for third place well that will have to be: The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume 1 *** or From Hell. AVOID LoEG volume 2 like the plague as it stinks to the high heavens and get as many people as possible to read From Hell as it shows that comics do not have to be spandex clad morons beatnig each other up but can offer thought provoking crime/history, although the 25 page murder recreation is a bit much. ***obviously me just being cool when I really want to say Doomlord or Hot Shot Hamish.
