I feel like I have to mention Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past on this thread. That game seen me through the introduction of a Step Mother to the fold - I used to hookshot people and pretend it was her. Bitch.
It is an amazing game though.
Also, does anyone remember with the Sega Master System how you could just turn it on and Alex Kidd was inbuilt? That always made me feel uneasy...and obviously made me turn on my Snes hoping there was a secret game already on it. All that happened was I blew about four adapters.

Goldeneye - that obsessed me and my friends for so long! Still can't look at CCTV cameras without mentally lining up a shot with my KF7...

This thread is reminding me of so many games from the past! My all time favs are probably:
Super Mario (especially 3 and mario cart) Sonic 2 (cause you get Tails) Killer Instinct (this was a bit like Tekken but with worse graphics and more random characters) Worms Gran Turismo (I used to love playing with the C class cars - basically bombing round Monte Carlo in a shitty Peugoet.) Lego Star Wars

In no particular order...
Sims 2 World of Warcraft Zelda: Ocarina of Time Goldeneye Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas Jak and Daxter 2 (one and three were a bit shit). Sonic 2 Lego Star Wars Nintendogs Tetris on old Game Boy

I never had a console as a child and was lumbered with an Atari ST (not even a fucking Amiga).
Anyway, mine are
Fantasy World Dizzy Rainbow Island Pang Dragon's Breath (you had to hatch dragons, burn villages and collect taxes from peasants. It was amazing) Xenon 2
And the ultimate - Lemmings.

Did anyone else's school have Granny's Garden on Ye Olde BBC Acorn computer? We had it in Primary 3, and at the time thought it was the greatest thing ever. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granny's_Garden

Bubble Bobble (Spectrum) , Final Fantasy XII (PS2) , JetPac (Spectrum), Rainbow Islands (Amiga), God Of War 1+ 2 (Ps2), Dune (PC). However right at this very moment, Warhawk on the PS3 is occupying at least 4 hours every evening. DEATH KILL DEATH.

Just as an add on the the BBC acorn, how weird that the games used to come on disks that were literally floppy.
I remember one that would be like
'You are in a house, there is a kitchen...what next?' or 'You are at a church, there is a cat....what do you do?'
Kind of like those adventure books where it was like 'do you turn to part 55 or part 89?' except with shit graphics and random bleeps and boops.

It has to be one of the Zelda games, probably Ocarina of Time I'd say.

Erm...
Disks you put in your a drive now aren't floppy though...hence why it's a point of interest. Merely an observation as to how the name came about.
I do apologise for bringing the origins of English lanuguage into the mix - I shall wait for a Balderdash and Piffle thread.

Erm... Disks you put in your a drive now aren't floppy though...hence why it's a point of interest. Yes they are - well, if you are referring to 3.5" disks - they are "floppy" inside the hard case and therefore are still floppy. A hard case was put on them cos so many silly buggers had bent the discs when they were in the flimsy cases. Of course no one uses disks these days so it's a moot point.

I think you're being too literal - at face value, disks nowadays aren't floppy. You can't bend them in half.
Just because the insides are floppy doesn't mean it still is - that's like saying a Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut is technically a raisin bar because it has them inside.
Yes?

Me and my bro were obsessed with point and click Sierra games - King's Quest, Police Quest, Laura Bow etc - where walking on a pixel or walking near a bannister meant instant death. Ah memories...

We loved Granny's Garden too (it was our school treat!), but it seems everyone did as whoever now owns the rights guards it very fiercely.
