The new Sim City game for the PC is out in November. It's called Sim City Societies, if I remember rightly, and looks great; they finally have street-level view. simcity.ea.com/I love Sim City, although my computer can just handle SimCity 4, so I'll have to wait until I get a new computer to get the new PC game. When I was searching for info about the new PC game I came across a review for the DS game which I'd not heard of before, and it looked pretty good so ordered it off Amazon. I'll tell you what it's like once it's come. Anyone got it/excited about the new game?

I absolutely worship SimCity, and have done ever since I had it for my Speccy back in Ye Olde Days. I can still waste an entire day watching my PC moan and strain under the effort of supporting SimCity4.
However, SimCity Societies looks a big load of pants. It seems to have been dumbed down to the most ridiculously stupid degree - I don't want to build "clown schools", or have a "happy town" with "chocolate factories". I want extremely complex simulations of gridlocked traffic, and I want them now. It's like when they released the Rush Hour add-on, and made more fuss about the big robot car monster (which I have barely looked at) instead of the new types of elevated railway and monorail.
I may splash out on SimCity DS when I get a few bob spare, though Animal Crossing is next on my list.

I just got a new laptop, so might get the new PC game, although it will probably still run super slowly. The DS game hasn't arrived yet, but I am looking forward to it! I think it will be around the level of SC3000 in complexity and graphics.

I've just watched the videos on the website, and the second one shows some sort of Communist-style dictatorship. I want this game!

A Communards dictatorship is only excusable if Jimmy Somerville is fully playable.

OK, so Sim City DS is shite. It is basically like SC3000 in graphics and gameplay, but using the stylus is really fiddly. You can only save one city at a time, the city name can only be a maximum of 6 characters, and there are only two levels of zoom. You can't even start disasters yourself, you have to wait for them to randomly happen. To put out fires you blow them out by blowing into the microphone, which would be great it my microphone wasn't broken.

I am not sitting on the train into work blowing at my DS to save a city called Tonk.*
*it is a scientific fact that there are no great cities with less than six letters. Apart from London. And Paris. And Berlin. And Madrid. But New York has seven if you count the space, so that completely validates my theory.

The restriction on the city name length seems really unnecessary. How can I add -grad to the end of my city names when I'm only allowed 6 letters?!
I will keep playing, perhaps I'll get used to the handling/ blowing.

Well the new PC game is out and apparently it's rubbish. You don't zone anymore, you just choose the buildings you want...
