I ordered this game but then remembered the microphone on my DS is broken. Does the game use it and if so, is it a vital part?

You have to shout a bit to get a discount in a shop, and you have to blow dust off maps. Maybe more, not far in myself.

I just read online there is one part that requires the microphone to progress... I'll see what happens when I get there. I might just need to get my whole flat to shout at the DS at the same time to get it to work.

I got this for Christmas and I love it. Some of the puzzles clearly require a more logical brain than mine, though. Having got impressively far without having to get advice off the internet at all, I got to one puzzle where I couldn't work out what to do next. I sat and tried everything I could think of for about an hour, then threw a strop and went to look it up on the internet.
Having found the answer and informed my family, they all looked at me like I was an idiot and said things like "well, that's the first thing I would've thought of." Bah.

I decided to get it as I'm about to finish the Twilight Princess, a year after getting it, and I really like the charm of the Wind Waker's graphics and the game itself wasn't that bad (I got it on Japanese import so didn't have a clue what was going on).

Hurrah, I got the game today and it turns out my microphone does work! I am concerned by the lack of button use. Just because the Touch Screen is the DS's USP doesn't mean you have to use it for everything!

Yeah, I found that weird at first too, but it works surprisingly well - I think the controls are easier to get used to than they are on the Wii for Twilight Princess.
I'm getting a bit narked with the damned Ocean Palace or whatever it's called - I hate having to replay the floors I've already done every time I need to go and find a new piece of the map or whatever's buried in its bowels.

I was a bit dissapointed at first because I thought it was going to be fully 360 degrees like the Zelda games on the N64, GameCube and Wii. I realise the DS has limitations. I really like it though; I'm just concerned it might be a bit too easy.

The dungeons are pretty easy, aren't they? I can usually finish one in an evening without too much trouble. I kind of like that, though - I'm used to Zelda games being so difficult that I can't get anywhere without repeatedly looking up walkthroughs on the internet just to figure out where the heck I'm supposed to go.

As good as this game is so far its easiness means its nowhere near topping Link's Awakening as my fave Zelda ever. But as a DS game its brilliant, the touch screen works better than I thought it would and I'm not even missing using the D-pad.

Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I ever played, and I loved it to bits. It had smashing music as well, I seem to remember - will have to rake it out and have another go of it at some point. And the Minish Cap - that was fab too!
I got slightly obsessed with the boat-cannon game-type-thing on PH, to the detriment of everything else. So I'm still not that far through it. I like it though, apart from the main dungeon which is just bloody irritating.

I am really into this now, I love the sailing parts. The dungeons are quite easy, but in a way that's good. The thing that annoys me about Zelda games is that if you stop playing in the middle of a dungeon, when you re-start you have to start from the entrance, which involves going over the same bits you've already done. They sort of got round this on Twilight Princess with Ococo, but still, you actually had to find her first. I really liked having to sign for a letter; it was like getting a real Royal Mail Special Delivery! I enjoy how they are making the most of the DS's features; the blowing dust off maps, scratching dirt off maps, shouting at people, blowing out candles, making notes, etc.
Next time I'm at home I am definately digging The Wind Waker out and having a sail around.

Next time I'm at home I am definately digging The Wind Waker out and having a sail around. The Wind Waker was possibly my fave ever Zelda. Though I know a lot of people didn't think it was all that great. I loved the cel-shading, the sailing, the main town and taking all the photos and that. Twas all just so good. Going underwater at the end and seeing the ruined palace actually made me properly all emotional. Though having said that, the Mario Galaxy storybook gets me slightly teary every time, so maybe maybe i'm just particularly susceptible to Nintendo attempts to make me cry. The BASTARDS.

Going underwater was amazing, References to other Zelda games, especially Ocarina of Time are always welcome. Majora's Mask was a pile of shit; except for the moon!!

I finally finished this at the weekend. Was quite disappointed that Princess Zelda wasn't actually present (aside from the fact that she is in disguise as Tetra, presumably , but you wouldn't know that unless you'd finished Wind Waker). The final boss was a right bastard, too. I knew the first time you took him on he wouldn't really be dead, it was far too easy. I did like this game, but the constant returning to the Temple of the Ocean King got on my tits after a while, especially having to constantly replay the same bits of it and having to wait ages for the soldier-things to walk past you with their backs turned, and not being able to run because of the musical floor. Though being able to kill them with the Master Sword made it all worthwhile, I suppose.
