Does anyone else listen to her Sunday show? I'm surprised there isn't a thread already.
Victoria Wood is her guest today talking about 'Acorn Antiques' on tour.

Elaine's special guest tomorrow is Liza Minnelli! She'll be talking about her life, her parents, her musicals, her husbands and her parents, her life, her musicals and her parents.

I made it 6 minutes before she started talking about her parents, and even then she didn't mention that they were dead. Terri Dwyer's record still stands.

Elaine was on extraordinary form the other week - in the space of two hours, she basically said that Anne Hathaway should have been autotuned in Les Mis, moaned about Madonna being cast in Evita, and described the Mel C/Emma Bunton version of I Know Him So Well as 'pleasant'. God, I love EP.

I think it was Joel or JetSetWilly on the old/new forum who described a scene of fur coats being thrown around the room when she saw the Peter Kay/Susan Boyle video for I Know Him So Well. I now have that image in my head when I see Elaine. That and her new face, which I'm sure she'll settle into by 2015. And I don't think Elaine should be criticising ANYONE with this floating around. Elaine did a pop album in the early 90s, and Well Almost was the highlight (written by the same people who wrote The Best for Tina). I've loved this song for over 20 years and only thought to google the video tonight. It's appallingly cheap (I expect Elaine saw Liza's videos and envisaged something similar) but even Pete Waterman would have been ashamed by its tawdryness. The erect nippe is especially unpleasant. WARNING: Contains mullets and plastic cups.www.muzu.tv/elainepaige/well-almost-music-video/574880/

Dame Elaine Paige (surely just a matter of time?) should be a LowCulture Lege. Tanya Turner could learn a few things from La Paige. I sometimes listen to her show on a Saturday afternoon. When she went on holiday once, they got Babs Windsor in. That was just horrific.

It's quite interesting how the personal/back stage stuff has never really affected the public perception of her. Other women in her situation have been called sluts and homewreckers, but then Tim Rice never left his wife for her, and some of her diva antics would make the most demanding monsters blush.
I read an amusing thread on an American gay website about Follies, and the Broadway queens were most put out that someone called called her the UK's answer to Patti LuPone.

My friend, the Maestro, tells the hilarious story of the 'King and I' where she's at the side of the stage hissing, 'And keep those f*cking children away from me!' Walks on 'Getting to know you!'
And that's why we love her Essexgirl!

I hate it when Babs sits in - she's got the shameless namedropping down to a tee, but she always sounds like she's reading from a script, so you don't the bursts of free-association luvvie madness you get from Dame EP. She got a bit irrate the other week because the bloke who does the showbiz news announced that someone else was starring in a revival of Piaf in a regional theatre. "It's only X years since I was in that. Surely they're not going to be bringing it in TOWN!?"

I'd heard Elaine would go AWOL during The King & I run, and would make dramatic appearances just before the understudy was about to go on. Alcohol was involved.
But the nastiest stories I've heard about backstage behaviour were about Elaine's stand in Barbara Windsor. A nastier piece of work than David Van Day.
Oh, and Patricia Hodge has an appalling reputation in regional theatre.
