Well, they've never edited it before, so that strikes me as odd.

I thought they already had done this, so it actually came as more of a suprise when XFM didn't edit out 'old slut on junk' when I was listening on Sunday!

As 'a gay', I find the decision completely ridiculous.
Talk about missing the context of the whole bloody thing.

Christ I never even gave it a second thought. How about another degrading and offensive word, Tatchell? CUNT.

I did wonder if at some point this afternoon the powers that be realised that the Radio 1 news presenters had actually said the word more times today than it would have been heard had they just played the song 5 times a day on the run up to Xmas......

This whole brouhaha might just mean Fairytale of New York could be the song to beat Leon to the Christmas Number One. It's getting far more publicity than it would have done if it was just played.
Could it be intentional? Is this all part of some covert operation to snatch Christmas back from The X Factor? Have I been possessed by a crazy-ass JFK conspiracy theorist?

Radio 1 are horribly inconsistent when it comes to censoring words though - why was it OK for Robbie to sing 'ass' in Let Me Entertain You but not for TLC in No Scrubs or Pink in Get The Party Started?
Having successfully avoided it for a long time, I finally heard Ronan Keating's version of Fairytale yesterday. THAT should be banned.

And apparently it's not fine for Kirsty MacColl to say "faggot", but they will defend to the hilt Chris Moyles's right to describe something he doesn't like as "gay".

I was reading the BBC Editors' blog earlier, and someone left a comment on there pointing out that the f-word is also a rural Irish term meaning "lazy person", and that she was called it numerous times as a child by people who were not accusing her of being a homosexual.
I'm not necessarily arguing that this changes anything, but it's still interesting.
