It must be a first. I'm surprised no one's posted about it yet. It's for Heinz New York Deli Mayonnaises (or some such Heinz product) and admittedly one of the men is supposed to be 'Mum', but the Dad is required to kiss him and it makes me feel funny in my tummy.

There's a link to the ad on Media Guardian I think.
I'd probably be more impressed if they used the mayo as lube

"Ain't you forgetting something?" is going to become a catchphrase, as is "sweetcheeks".

I don't quite know how this represents a New York Deli?

Aww...it's cute.
So, are they flavoured mayonnaises? I prefer to mix my own grainy mustard & mayo, or indeed pesto & mayo for different occasions. I ain't gonna change for this deli stuff, I'm telling ya, sweetcheeks.

I like this ad. The deli man is a dreamboat. He can feed me his mayo any time.

Boooooooooo: www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a103127/gay-kiss-heinz-ad-draws-175-complaints.htmlOf course there's a mixed reception on Digital Spy forums. One woman says that she'd prefer to tell her young son about "The Birds and the Bees" when she wants to. Since when the hell did two men kissing equate to "the birds and the bees" ? Tell the kid that sometimes people of the same sex have relationships, just like men and women. Jeez! The kid obviously doesn't watch Doctor Who. Or Torchwood. Or anything else made my Russell T Davies. Or any of the soaps that have gay characters.

It's a peck on the lips! Do these people not understand the point of the advert? I despair.
Bring on the late-night version of the ad, where we see what happens when Dad gets home and "Mum" takes him behind the deli counter - they'll probably implode with fury.

It's doing its job in that it's grabbing attention but I no more want to buy that shitty looking mayo than I do kiss a cat's tit.

As much as I think the complaints are ridiculous and the fact that the people making them are getting their own way is tragic, I'm not going to be weeping into my pillow at the loss of yet another ad depicting homosexualtiy as somehow inherently hilarious.

Was it hilarious? I didn't see anyone laughing in it or at it? (EDIT: I realise they've said it was "meant to be humourous" but humourous is not hilarious) Seems like very cowardly activity from Heinz if you ask me.

Hilarious/humorous, it all amounts to the same thing - the ad is supposed to be funny and what's supposed to be funny is that men are kissing and calling each other "sweet cheeks".
It's not a massive world-ending issue that OMG HOMOPHOBIA! affects gay politics now and forever but it's a common theme in a lot of adverts recently (Marmite, Malteasers, some random lads mag) to have the "punchline" be "two men kissing/being gay" and I find it boring and mildly uncomfortable. Like pins and needles.

I don't particularly like the ad, but I find the fact that they've pulled it because of complaints from the usual homophobic idiots, really quite offensive. Heinz seem to be effectively saying 'Our customers don't like seeing anything that might be the least bit gay on the telly, and actually, we now agree with them – really, men kissing is quite horrible'. Thats probably not what they intended, but thats sort of how it comes accross.
Bill O'Reilly on the ad:

Oh dear. "Can't I just have mayonnaise without men kissing?" While I do agree with Chris that underlying hilarious homophobia is not good, I do think there's a difference between this ad and the Marmite and Maltesers examples. Those ads used the "comedy" of having straight men kissing for reasons beyond their control. I just cannot see how people can see this as a gay issue. It's a kiss between man and wife, where the wife is played by a New York Deli man in the minds of the children. Simple.

Surely this ad was put out to provoke exactly this response and attention? Am I too cynical?

Oh dear. "Can't I just have mayonnaise without men kissing?" What O'Reilly was actually thinking was probably the precise opposite.

If they'd had a woman morph into the deli man at the beginning, they could have avoided all this trouble. And then back to the woman when he puts the horrible mayonnaise with lumps in back in the fridge.

I think the fact that this has made news in the US is a pretty good indicator of why the ad has now been pulled. They risk alienating New York Deli blokes, and scaring off Middle America.

I can't help feeling cynical about everything here.
I can't help wondering if the advert was made JUST to be pulled. They put the advert out, it gets loads of complaints, then gets pulled and newspapers and radio stations all do little bits about it and what-this-says-about-the-state-of-the-nation puff pieces. Heinz's new Mayo range gets the kind of nationwide publicity that you can't buy...

The Daily Mail will probably mount a campaign to ban this "sick filth that warps Childrens minds and blows up soldiers".
Or Lynda Bellingham will have an embilism about it on Loose Women.
