T'was (fairly) brillig, but I actually can't stand seeing the Doctor fucked up anymore. I care much too much about this- I don't want to see such a very lovely face scowling all the sodding time. It's not really in the spirit of the damn show, and would kind of remove the, er, dramatic tension (*cough* drama GCSE *cough*) if you took away EmoDoctor, but I JUST WANT HIM TO BE HAPPY. PLEASE, MR MOFFAT. FOR FIVE MINUTES. PLEASE.
Donna was actively heartbreaking. I thought she'd break because of seeing the Doctor's sadness, a la the Ood ("Take the song away! I want to go home!") but this was better, in an "I think you need a Doctor" way. Was the ring a massive red herring, or was that a huge arsed clue? Please the former.
German daleks- amazing. Oster-Haagen key (I don't even care that that's a typo)- fairly amazing concept. Martha, Jackie, Mickey, Sarah-Jane, Jack(ish)- amazing until the hugging, where I squirmed. No Sonic Screwdriver- surprising, and amazing.
The amazingness of Bernard Cribbins goes without saying.
No idea how I feel about the Rose thing, to be honest. It might be very very lovely, it might be gross. I'll have to sleep on it. Doomsday was not cheapened too much, in my humble opinion, but it felt an infinitesimal bit like RTD just loved the pairing too much to give it up when it should have been. Maybe. Perhaps. Even though the Doctor and Rose are fairly adorable at several points in the second series. Oh, I can't think.
Was waiting for "What?" at the end, and was distraught to end on that note. But hey, you can't have everything. And I won't moan. I WON'T MOAN.
I did love it. I did. I did.
I'm off to watch the Teletubbies now. Or Clueless. Or anything where the main character ends up better off at the end than the beginning. It's A Wonderful Life. That's the ticket.

Wow. It certainly was a rollercoaster ride. So glad the regeneration didn't complete, it means we get DT for at least another (albeit shorter) season.
Had a tear in my eye in the final scenes with the Doctor and Donna. So sad that she can never remember her time on the TARDIS. I hope that she becomes the brilliant Donna she became with the Doctor, even though she isn't with him anymore, like she did in Turn Left.
To misquote the statue in the end of Silence In The Library
"Donna Noble has left the TARDIS. Donna Noble has been erased"

I'm an absolute Rose fiend. I loved it when they held hand and stuff, but i was still a little unsure about the human doctor thing. One question: How did Rose not know that Jack can't die? Or was she 'acting' for the daleks??? The new doctor/donna 'OI!' etc bit was amazing. It was impressing how much humour RTD could get in something so essentially dark.

Gita Kapoor! "Sanjay! Another Dalek's come through the window!" If I could exalt you for that, I'd do so a thousand times. As soon as I saw her I thought the exact same thing. I'm not looking forward to bloody Cybermen at Xmas though Within minutes of Kylie Who finishing on Christmas Day you complained about Catherine Tate ruining this series and now you're whinging about the Christmas episode already. Anyway. As I've said before with previous episodes it's testament to the quality of everyone's involvement that the viewer becomes so emotionally involved with the characters. Usually when you look forward to something this much there's a sense of anti-climax about it, but I'm not feeling it at all this time, probably because the endings felt well thought out for everyone involved, however emotionally draining. Sarah Jane will have her adventures and Torchwood will fight on for another week. And can someone confirm what exactly was the story about Harriet Jones being half dalek was about? Was it a red herring for journalists to leak?

And CT wasn't as awful as I'd thought, but still very very irritating in many places.

Well it wasn't as bad as "Last of the Time Lords" but it was pretty well close.
When the 2 best things in a 65 minute episode are a 2 second appearance by K9 and that wonderful last scene between Wilf and the Doctor then you know something has gone badly wrong.
Looking at the episode there appeared to be 2 main problems, 1- the Daleks are defeated far too early and way way to easy - it demeaned the threat from the previous episode. 2- too many people there for no other reason than they could be - there was no reason at all for Jackie, Mickey, Sarah Jane and, yes even, Rose.
Rose- brought back for no other reason than RTD can't bear to have a sad ending and an ending that totally shits in the face of the far superior "Doomsday".

I LOVED the episode, but the ending - although really good - was SO depressing.

My point being is that it seems needlessly negative to start doom mongering about something that isn't going to be shown for months yet. And I hate it when people are too lazy to write Christmas and put Xmas instead, but that's another matter. As people can probably see I've started a poll about the best guest stars. I had to leave quite a few people off and didn't include any of the family members, mainly because they had recurring roles.

I voted for Sophia Myles (still my favourite one-shot episode) and Alex Kingston

I'd love to vote twice. Zoe Wanamaker's "Moisturise me!" is just such a great line, but I plumped for the Ooberman.

My thoughts, in no particular order: > It was bound to still be David Tennant, but I love that they got us doubting it for a week. > I got very excited when the Doctor and Rose recognised Gwen, but nobody else watching with me knew why. > An alternative solution would have been to destroy one of the empty planets, right? It would have had the same effect as destroying an Earth full of people. > I did laugh at "exterminieren!" > David Tennant's hairy chest was seen too fleetingly. > The Rose/Doctor kiss was...not for me. I'm sure it satisfied a lot of OTP fans, but for those of us who don't think like that, it was all a bit cheesy. > Loved Rose acknowledging Martha's amazingness, Sarah getting one over Davros, and Donna's hug with Jack. > So...Mickey in Torchwood? Not sure about that yet. > Poor amazing Doctor Donna. It was a pretty terrible fate, all things told, but at least she has the chance to live her life. As someone said, I hope we hear at some point that Donna achieves her potential. Catherine Tate has been phenomenal this series, as I always thought she would be. > Is it wrong that I was a little disappointed that nobody (significant) actually died? I was all prepared for it, following the Torchwood finale, so I'm not sure what to make of it. > I was also disappointed that we didn't have a little lead-in to the Christmas special, like the past couple of years, but I am excited about Dervla Kirwan. > I'm counting the days til Alex Kingston appears again. Gita Kapoor! "Sanjay! Another Dalek's come through the window!" If I could exalt you for that, I'd do so a thousand times. As soon as I saw her I thought the exact same thing. Me too! Me too!

You can vote twice, as it says. I voted for Tracy-Ann and Jessica Hynes. Had I allowed three votes Alex Kingston would have got it too.

There is nothing wrong with rewarding viewers for their loyalty (rather than describing it as 'fanfic' or 'fanwank'), and the last episodes have done that wonderfully well. I actually cheered when the Doctor and Rose recognised Gwen as a descendant of Gwyneth. Every little touch of continuity was outstandingly good.
I'm still very unsure whether Donna should have physically died or not. I'd like to think we haven't heard the last of her.

Am I right in thinking that Donna is still half timelord? Or at least the shell of a half time lord?

Well there's a one-hearted Doctor who is still half-Donna, so quite possibly!

Well there's a one-hearted Doctor who is still half-Donna, so quite possibly! Who is in the other reality! So now that Doctor will be protecting that world too! He could build a space ship and utilize their time machine thingy!

Yeah, it's not as if Rose has killed millions of Daleks before or anything. *tried to insert a smilie thing to convey the jokey-ness*

So Rose ends up with what is essentially a Doctor 'Real Doll'. I found that a bit weird! I am so gutted for Donna. What can she get in real life that will make her grow like her time with the Doctor? Depressing. Getting Tennant for another season can help the pain, but really, that has depressed me.
I need to get Hamlet tickets now. Does anyone know, is it in London or Stratford? Tennant and Patrick Stewart on one stage... I may die with joy.

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
No no no no no no.
FUCKING NO.
The one thing I didn't want was for Donna to have her amazingness undone and her mind wiped. RTD always said it's too cruel to kill a companion, but this is so much crueler. I was never one of the people who doubted Catherine Tate when it was revealed she was coming back - I've always thought she's a brilliant actress - and Donna is amazing and deserves more than than pissant half-assed back where she started ending, especially when bloody Rose fucking Tyler got to go off and shag a Doctor until the day she dies. I used to like Rose, but the end of season 2 was so good, I honestly think it was a mistake to ever bring her back.
The episode was good, but it's left me angry more than anything. Donna deserved more. Donna deserved to actually die.
(I voted for Sophia Myles and Lesley Sharp. I would have voted for Harry Lloyd, but figured being incredibly fit wasn't really enough of a reason.)

Great Poll!
In the end I went for Carey Mulligan & John Simm.
Blink remains one of my favourite episodes and Carey carried it with great charm & charisma. I really can't imagine anyone else in the role - in other hands Sally Sparrow could easily have come across as smug and selfish, which would have diminished the episode greatly.
Likewise, I can't imagine anyone but John Simm pulling off the Master's mix of menace, charm and total insanity so fantastically. And now we know a timelord can (sort-of, possibly) regenerate back into his/her current incarnation, I hope we haven't seen the last of him.
On the shortlist, similarly based on them having made the parts their own and delivered flawless performances: Penelope Wilton, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Derek Jacobi, Annette Badland, Harry Lloyd and Jessica Hynes. Hell, pretty much all of them.
Whoever does the casting deserves a big shiny award. Is there a 'casting' section in the BAFTA craft awards?
