Video here, if you've not heard it before:
I'm just curious (for you, caught my attention) - what are people making of this?
Personally I think the song is ghastly and needlessly pleased with itself, and she's utterly obnoxious and affected, but I'm curious to see if anyone has a convincing argument to the contrary. (If only because I need there to be a reason why it's been stuck in my head for about three days. Gah.)

This song is a steaming pile of shite. What are the Americans thinking?

I really want to hate this song, but it's one of the most played songs on my itunes just now. I hate the idea of lipstick lesbianism, as if it's something for men to enjoy. But. It's infectious. Mmm, cherry chapstick.

Even before you get to the subject matter, it sounds fucking awful. Her voice is terrible, and the backing track sounds cheap and tacky.
The song itself just reeks of something trying desperately to be ''edgy'' or ''controversial''.

It sounds like a cheap knock-off of Pink's Cuz I Can and Kelis' I Don't Think So (both much better songs by much better singers). I was really hoping the UK would be spared this, but after its US success I think we're screwed..

The song is catchy and fun, nothing spectacular and not one of Cathy Dennis' better efforts, and the production does sound quite cheap. It's the 1000th number one on the Billboard Hot 100, which made Cathy very proud.

Well I love it! Morally it's completely bankrupt and the lyrics are shambolic "Us girls, we are so magical..." but that chorus is ten kinds of brilliant.
It's just so wrong. It's just so right...

Whatever happened to Katy Perry in the end?

Last I saw she was transplanted into the body of Paula Deens and George Takei was pimping her out on Facebook.

The Almighty mix of Jam Jar Of Hearts was quite catchy.

We should try and list Katy Perry's best and worst efforts. I for one think that "E.T." is a pretty decent track but that "California Gurls" should be a legitimate excuse in cases of criminal violence.
I have a habit of periodically getting the strenuous "FAAAAAAALLING FROM CLOUD NIIIIIIIINE" bit from "Wide Awake" stuck in my head.

The only time I've liked Katy Perry was when she was being placed in immediate comparison with 3OH!3.
