Anyone else very distracted from what's going on by Jeremy Piven's teeth?

Yes, he looks like a beaver. The animal kind. (Although, as a gay, I'm not sure if the other kind have teeth or not. I've heard stories).

I'm distracted by what's going on with his arms. And also by the fact that he's a GIANT HAM.

All his shouting in the first episode put me off. Plus the way he kept saying 'HA HA HAAAAA' instead of laughing.

My mum texted me on Sunday to say "Have been thinking long and hard and don't think I can bring myself to watch any more Mr Selfridge". And then the ratings went down for that episode. Coincidence? I think not.

I'm sorry I prefer Ripper Street. Although I am unsure which of the two is camper.

I just feel like Jeremy Piven must have been getting acting lessons from Joey Tribbiani. His face is totally smelling all the farts (and I think he likes them, judging by his expression).
(I've said this on Twitter already but I shall brazenly recycle it here. Because.)

It hasn't grabbed me partly because we all know Selfridges is now a massive success. There's not a lot of jeopardy. Ripper Street veers between sub CSI stuff to some very strong acting and writing. It almost veered into Bonekickers insanity but seems to be heading away from that.

It's all about Henri Le Clare for me. And Miss Agnes Dowler who I'm expecting to end up CEO in a Barbara Taylor Bradford esque storyline.
I enjoyed Jeremy Piven more in Buy The Book than in a grand department store.

I'm mainly watching it because it occasionally features the owner of one of my favourite voices, Sam West. Although he has a dodgy Irish-Chicago accent (dodgy because his character's background hasn't been explained so people won't realise he's slipping between the 2 on purpose (honest!)), so it's not quite the same. I'm glad Mrs Selfridge is getting a bit of toy boy action while her shouty big-toothed husband is shagging the annoying singer.

I've given this the swerve mainly because Katherine Kelly tends to give me an attack of the vapours, but I see that the Mr Leclair who has caught more than the odd eye is played by none other than the very aptly named Gregory FIToussi (yes, I'm a 12-year-old girl) who previously starred in the best policey-type drama ever – Spiral, which despite being all in French is absolutely amazing.

I only watched it for the first time last week, I'll probably watch again, mainly for Monsieur Le Clair. (Thanks Maureen - I had wondered where I had recognised him from)

I've come to the conclusion that Jeremy Piven was coked up for most of the filming schedule. Wasn't there a photo of him with a very unlikely female companion (c-list reality reject) when he was over in the UK filming it?
There's lot of familiar faces in this. Anna Madeley was wonderful lezzing it up with Zoe Tapper in Andrew Davies' adaptation of Affinity, Mrs Selfridge's boho toyboy is currently raping and pillaging in World Without End, and most lowculturally, the eldest Selfridge daughter is none other than Imelda, Reading's answer to Elaine Paige.

I can't watch this without thinking of 'the spirit of Selfridges' as the blind vampire who fought demons and half-lives with Gene Hunt and his awful American accent.
I did enjoy it tonight though. Sneaking out the best lace in the hem of your skirt.
Edit: Talking of which, how absolutely brilliant was Pippa Haywood in 'Prisoners' Wives' last year?

It did occur to me that the last time Pippa was on tv she was smuggling something else under her dress. And she was indeed brilliant in PW as was PW. I'll send you Affinity David - you enjoyed The Night Watch didn't you?

Comparing this week's episode to last week, I can't help feeling how Mr Selfridge is more enjoyable when Mr Selfridge is barely in it.

There was a very bored looking girl tugging on a mannequin's arm in the Debenham's window today. I thought to myself, she'll never reach the giddy heights of Miss Agnes Towler with such a slovenly approach.

Well, I quite enjoyed it all, all things considered. If only the planned second series could make do without Mr Piven.
I didn't realise that lovely old Doris on accessories was none other than the long lost Samantha Janus mowed down by evil Janine daughter from Eastenders until last night. The hair was very distracting.

It seems to have been on forever! All the men turned out to be bastards, which is a shame because I wanted Agnes to have a happy ending with the hot French guy. I think Horace Spendrich did quite a good impression.
