The 'Brit Global Success' Award goes to One Direction instead of Adele? What?

It was a made-up award anyway, so I doubt she's bothered. I thought it was more insulting that it was the last award of the night, which is traditionally either Best British Album or Outstanding Contribution.
A largely dull evening, though. It was quite an achievement that Taylor Swift managed to give the most visually exciting performance of the night, and that was just a costume change and some dancers. Everything else was a bit meh. (*cough* Mumford & Sons *cough* Justin Timberlake *cough* Ben Howard *cough*)
And can we not have James Corden next year?

The forced banter between James Corden and Robbie Williams was truly, truly painful. And the laddy atmosphere that Corden brings does the whole show a disservice, since any women attending the awards usually get reduced to the role of hubba-hubba-woof-woof-marks-out-of-ten-lads-I'd-give-her-one-eh-eh-eh.

Was there any particular reason why they didn't have a Lifetime Achievement award at the end? I can't remember ever watching it before and not seeing one get handed out followed by a big medley.

Probably because they were afraid of what Adele might do.

The "Global Success" award is the best made up award since "Best Selling Live Act".
I just presumed that Emily Sunday's medley was supposed to signify her getting "Lifetime Achievement", as she ploughed as many public performances as Blur did in their entire career into one year/Olympics/series of Graham Norton/ha ha Emily Sunday she's on everything etc etc.

I'd love for another channel to get the rights to this. ITV just rattle out the same boring formula every year.
Corden needs to be rested now. He hasn't done a particularly awful job, in fairness, but the same schtick for four years is way too much. And there needs to be an actual crowd in front of the stage, not some aloof execs who don't give a shit. What happened to the Brit School students that they normally load up on e-numbers? They'd have given the performances a bit of atmosphere.
Not that it's entirely ITV's fault - the BPI themselves need to make some changes. The Outstanding Contribution award only being occasional seems pretty weird, and they should reintroduce the genre awards (Best British Pop/Rock/Dance/Urban), especially now so much beige folky stuff is dominating the main categories. I get that they have to reflect what's popular, but that would ensure all genres get a look in.
Oh, and Corden kissing Grimmy genuinely made me feel sick. I'm not exaggerating. My stomach actually heaved a little bit.

It was all a bit dull really. I enjoyed Taylor Swift's performance of 'I Knew You Were Trouble' though. I liked Ben Howard's performance of 'Only Love' as well, I thought it was really nice.
