So Big Brother is back on Channel 5 again with Emma taking over presenting duties. Which I think is a huge plus. The housemate casting this year seems as lazy as ever, though. Ranging from actors who can't act to obvious goodies and villains. Hopefully, the rubbish twist will fizzle out early and some interesting personalities and dynamics will emerge as the weeks go on. As ever, I'll be watching all Summer anyway.

So Dexter, Sallie and Gina are up for eviction. Shame, they're the most interesting/dramatic ones there.
Michael is rubbish. He can't act for toffee. The only shining light is Detective!Dan solving the case.
AJ and Rylan are a blight on the (already disease ridden) BOTS landscape.

Michael's acting is a bit crap, but he's even more annoying when he's not acting, like when he's in the Diary Room talking to Big Brother.
It's kind of funny how the show are making out that 1) They've "never been done this twist before", when, well, they have, numerous times, and 2) The housemates don't suspect a thing, when quite a few of them suspected he wasn't a real housemate on the first couple of nights!
I think it's a shame they've got rid of the vote to save they had since it's been on Channel 5. It doesn't really make a difference in a two way vote (as in the Channel 4 ones if people liked a housemate that was up they'd vote to get the other out, so when it was a vote to save if they hated someone who was up they'd vote to save the other one), but when there were 3 or more up it did a better job of keeping the more interesting/controversial/"big characters" in.

I couldn't agree more, fused. The vote to save was the best change since the move to 5 and I don't know why they have ditched it this year. When there were multiple nominees, there was actually some surprising evictions, and it still didn't stop the villains from getting their just desserts because people still didn't vote for Caroline last year. And it was genuinely satisfying last year when the hateful alliance realised that Deana was more popular than all of them wek after week.
It does seem that in the early weeks, we always lose a great potential housemate, and I think that's going to be the case this week again because I think that Gina and Sallie are good value. Gina is in her own world and doesn't care and while I think Sallie is very genre savvy, at least she isn't afraid to speak her mind. I think Gina will go on Friday, though.
With the exception of Dan, the male half of the cast are total duds. Sam is Glyn 2.0, Dexter is the villain who actually seems full of promise from the VT boasting about how he doesn't give a shit about who he tramples on but then starts crying two days in because nobody likes him, the Michael twist isn't working because he is useless, Callum is going to have a dull showmance with Charlie, the twins are "LOL Fatty" extras and Daley's best bits will just be a VT reel of him crying and farting...

I think Caroline would have stayed had they not kept freezing the votes, removing the housemates that had the most votes to save, then re-opening them until it was between the bottom 2. Apparently Luke S was at the bottom of the vote and Caroline second from bottom all the way through that vote until it became a 2 way between them, then people knew that to get Caroline out they had to vote for Luke S to stay. It's like Lydia in the first week, there was barely any difference between her and Victoria's percentage, but Lydia got slightly more votes so she stayed, whereas I reckon Lydia would have gone easily had it been a vote to evict. I think if a contestant is hugely disliked they won't get many votes to save. It's a bit like the Jedwards and Wagners in X Factor I think. They might get some "keep in the entertainment" votes, but at the end of the day they won't get as many as contestants who have fans who geniunely like them. But in a vote to save any screen time is better than none, whereas in a vote to evict it's better to have less screen time. One of my favourite things about the vote to save last year was the week when there were 4 people up and Deana got the most votes and two of the guys that had been cunts to her, Arron and Conor, were the bottom 2 and they announced what order they'd all finished in to the house. That was a lot more satisfying than if she'd just had the fewest votes to evict. I have to say I actually loved last series, I'd even go to say it was one of my favourites of them all. It had a great cast, a good mix of likeable and horrible, but with most of them on both sides interesting enough. I usually don't side completely with one side over the other in Big Brother, but that series had a clear cut 'goodie' and 'baddie' divide for me. I'm not sure why they've changed it back to vote to evict for this series, as there are so many housemates that are a bit on the bland side. I'd have thought they'd want to keep the more dramatic ones in for a while, but if anything it seems the opposite as they've basically made sure one of them will be out first in week one.

Wow, that was quite the eviction. Baptism of fire for Emma. Sallie was amazingly psychotic. Felt sorry for Michael when he wasn't smug. However, I will not miss him. He wasn't that great.
BB13 was good for the good vs evil fight. I am still annoyed about Conor, he received no punishment for his epilator comment and the less said about the White Room twist, the better.

Yeah, the White Room task last year was a bit shit, and it's bad that Conor walked away with so much money. The only scrap of a entertainment from it was it allowed the show to continue taking the piss out of Luke S, and that guy was such a humourless pillock I couldn't help but find it a bit funny. I did a blog post about BB13 last year if anyone's interested: Big Brother 13. Anyway, back to this year's series. What an absolute car crash of an eviction interview that was! Which in the context of Big Brother makes it one of their best ever. The way Sallie was asking for drinks and food during it, plus her insults to the crowd. "You've waited since 4pm this afternoon to be here, get a grip!". Frankly, they deserved it, I hate it when rent-a-mob do that "OFF OFF OFF" thing during someone's interview. I might have misheard it, but I think she said to Michael something along the lines "I don't think it's Hollywood for you babe". I think Sallie was a great housemate, and I think in the long-run it isn't a good thing she's gone this early.

Great blog post fused. It's funny how much random great stuff of the last series I forgot like Sara's love of Meatloaf and the Museum task. Deana continually making fun of Luke S after the White room twist was what I found most entertaining and I was disappointed that that was what made some of the public dislike her towards the end. Anyway, I tend to prefer the odd number series' of BB.
Definitely agree that the first eviction interview was a baptism of fire for Emma, but she handled Sallie really well. I dread to think what Brian would have handled her. But it was certainly entertaining! I also loved her telling off the crowd, telling Michael he's a shit actor (I wish BB weren't as congratulatory of themselves of that twist, saying he played a blinder, when he really didn't).
Wolfy acting like Sallie died was hilarious! I think she is going to be the early show favourite who crashes and burns and is hated in a couple of weeks.

Jemima got evicted on Friday, thought she was mostly harmless and her lusting after sexy!Sam was hilarious.
So, for eviction this week we have Dexter (who I love), Gina (who I like), Dan and Wolfy (who are members on my Big Brother Wall of Hate).
Seamus, you were right. Wolfy's arrogance will see her crash and burn, her 'I'm going to be in the final' speech is setting the stage for Friday.
To top it off, we have a MASSIVE TWIST to look forward to! Ugh!

Emma is proving much more likeable than Davina or Brian (OK, not so hard) - and I'm finding the series watchable enough but none of the BIG!TWISTS! are exactly novel - they've all been done before. Loving the house itself though, one of the most attractive and interesting they've had.

Emma is proving much more likeable than Davina or Brian (OK, not so hard) I thought Emma handled the interview with Daley's girlfriend very well. It was on Big Brother's Bit On The Side (ironic given that they were talking about Daley cheating on his girlfriend in the house....), so even if she hadn't been promoted as the main host Emma probably would have done it anyway, but I couldn't help thinking how much better she did it than Brian or Davina would have done. Brian would have been out of his depth, and Davina wasn't exactly known for her sensitivity. Talking of which, how tediously predictable that despite the fact Daley is the one who has a partner and Hazel is single, she's getting the vast majority of the hate for it. According to many of the viewers Hazel is an evil bitchslutwhore from hell, but Daley, well men are either too stupid or too hot to have any responsibility for their actions, so no blame for him.

As well as Hazel getting more flack for the Daley showmance, I think it is unfair for her to get a lot of the blame for Daley's ejection as well. She definitely played her part in the play fighting and did take things far (like pulling down his shorts) but I did find it genuinely scary when Daley flipped, grabbed her throat and pinned her down. I do think BB were right to eject him (and reminded me again how wrong they were in not ejecting Conor) but they shouldn't have let him go back to the secret house bedroom that night.
Unfortunately, I thought Emma was a bit soft on him on BOTS last night. I think they should have replayed the footage for him because I don't think he understood how threatening he came across. He seemed more preoccupied with apologising to the audience he might've offended and came across massively bitter when Hazel's name was mentioned and she's the one he should apologise to. Plus I can't believe his ex-girlfriend (who is stunning and can do miles better) was on BOTS last night as well supporting him.
I really warmed to Dexter while he was in the secret house last week, but have gone off him again for stabbing my beloved Gina in the back and nominating her. Plus I do think he is very genre savvy and the whole Charlie love triangle is his way of manufacturing some publicity for himself post-show.
Also, I really don't understand the nominations this year. Fair enough if it's going to be 3 with the most votes now instead of 2 but I don't understand how this week everyone with a nomination is up instead of Callum/Dexter/Gina.

Yeah, I agree with pretty much all of that seamus. Daley definitely deserved to be removed. Emma did go easy on him, but the strong impression I got from the interview is that it was severe damage limitation both on the part of Daley and the show.
Hazel is very much the Big Brother hate figure until she leaves now, and no it isn't really fair.
I don't even like her particularly, I think she's selfish and manipulative. In fact, this has been a series where I don't like any of them that much. Of the ones left the only ones I quite like are Sam and Gina. Sam seems nice enough, if a bit overwhelmed, and Gina is funny and I think she's self-aware too. I may turn out to be wrong, but I think she's found herself in a role that she didn't expect to get and is just enjoying the ride.
But I'm not keen on any of the others. Dan is sometimes OK, but other times he's far too arrogant and he acts a bit like a spoiled brat if he doesn't get his own way. Jack & Joe are not as funny as they think they are. Jackie looks like she hates every minute of it and she's only not walking because she wants the "full eviction experience" and wants to make sure Charlie doesn't go with a bloke she disapproves of. Charlie herself is dull as ditchwater, Callum is duller than ditchwater. Sophie is only a favourite to win because her 'type' of housemate (blonde, bubbly,a bit dim, regional accent) has a history of doing well, and as for Dexter, well I can't blame the others for nominating him and not trusting him. He's slimy, he goes around telling everyone what they've said about each other and nothing he says comes across as sincere.
They did an "every nomination counts" twist last series, which meant everyone who got a nomination was put up, which was everyone in the house except Scott and Becky. I think that was mentioned before the results were announced though, what's odd this time is that they haven't even said why. Eh, they make it up as they go along anyway. I'm guessing they don't want to lose Dexter or Gina and don't think Callum will get enough votes to go with it being a vote to evict.

I haven't really watched for the past two weeks. It was somehow boring and tedious.
The final is on Monday and I want either Gina or Dexter to win. They have held my attention when I was watching it and they have been entertaining. The Twins are annoying, Charlie is incoherent and Sam looks nice but is dull. So, Gina or Dexter gets my support.

I thought it was a disappointing finale to a good series. I don't think Sam is the worst winner ever but he didn't really make much of an impact all series. Although I am quite smug that I picked him as the winner on launch night.
I wanted Gina to win and kudos to her for placing so high, especially for a black woman who are usually evicted at the first opportunity. Gina provided the most entertainment and drama for me this year.
The tasks have been brilliant this year and even though all the twists were recycled they were still entertaining. I've really enjoyed Emma as a presenter as well but I'd still prefer the return of "vote to save".

Sam was my favourite housemate this series, so it's the first time my overall favourite in 'normal' Big Brother has actually won. I just found him very likeable, which might not sound like much of a reason to want someone to win, but to be honest I think that what's most people who watch the show vote on. Us lot on the internet might be look into storylines and "big characters", but I think most of the viewers only care about whether they like someone as a person or not. Despite what I said in my last post, I really liked Hazel by the end. I agree with entirely seamus about Emma being a good presenter, preferring vote to save and I loved the tasks this year too. I don't think I'll watch the upcoming Celebrity edition though. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not keen on watching two Big Brother series back to back, I find that I need a bit of a break from it. I wrote another blog post about this series. Big Brother 14.
