I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet: www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds22358.htmlCan't say I'm entirely surprised - it's very rare for someone to get away with murder, in the very literal sense, in the soap world for too long. A shame, because I did like Chrissie. Although I question the description of her as a "strong female character" - does such a thing actually exist in Albert Square? They all end up downtrodden and pregnant with Ian Beale's child before too long. At least she's going before she has to suffer that indignity.

They all end up downtrodden and pregnant with Ian Beale's child before too long. Or Phil's. Actually, thinking about it, Ian Beale should come with a health warning. Hasn't he buried about three wives / girlfriends so far and counting? Chrissie's going then? I never thought Tracie Ann Oberman would stay long anyway. She just couldn't stay away from being fabulous in Radio 4 comedies for too long.

I swear I read something on this very internet about Cindy being drafted back in at some point in the future, with the explanation that she hadn't really died when she was in prison at all, it was all a big cover-up because she was on witness protection for something or other. I can't remember which site it was on, but it was something reasonably convincing. There may even have been a quote from Michelle Collins in there. There was definitely a photograph of her. A photograph! What do you say to THAT, sceptics? I'd miss Chrissie. I like her face. She's so, so much more interesting-looking than most of the women in that programme.

I think the Cindy story came up around the time of the "all the Mitchells are coming back!" stories exploded. I wouldn't be surprised if Michelle Collins did return; she couldn't stay away from Albert Square until they finally killed her off (as Victoria Wood would say, it's like trying to get Imelda Marcos out of Saxone). Much like Laetitia Dean now.

Why do soaps have a fascination with witness protection storylines? We've had that bloody Harris family in Corrie, and Liam/Sam in Hollyoaks.

Jode, do you actually have a working knowledge of how the Liam/Sam thing in Hollyoaks worked? It's never made any sense to me.

The Liam/Sam thing was because he was convicted of burning a child to death, but his ex-girlfriend (older sister of the soot child) stalked him and he ended up in a rain-soaked, badly-acted showdown between his ex-girlfriend, her father and himself. After that he sort of disappeared for a while and came back as Sam, but presumably it was all to do with how, now he wasn't really guilty anymore and the problems from his past had been resolved - and he'd been away for more than a month, enough time for the average Hollyoakser to forget him - he could go back to using his own name. Or something.

well surely he'll have left it to Sharon in his will. Though this is Eastenders, so anything could happen really. The law doesn't seem to operate in the same way as in the rest of the country.

Considering the number of times you hear/read an actress say "There aren't many strong female roles", they are obviously talking shit.

They do appear to be ignoring the fact that Coronation Street seems to manage to include them without difficulty.

i just read peggy will shove chrissie into dens grave at his funeral in september cos chrissie will set sam up.
eastenders is crawling with strong female characters. the scariest posse has to be pauline, pat, big mo, even dot. they're the only ones that dare look the 'real tough guys' like andy, johnny and miniden in the eye. even ians girlfriend has balls and rosie's nails as well. sharon is tough as old boots - she might get in a state over the overactive jaw muscle but we all know who rules who..

i just read peggy will shove chrissie into dens grave at his funeral in september cos chrissie will set sam up. I really, really love that idea. In my head, Peggy is pushing Chrissie into a grave like a car that is stuck in mud. She is also as rough as old boots at the moment. Why is her hair like that? Why? Is she trying to emulate Chrissie but badly failing? And her skin is nearing Kilroy Silk on the celebrity tan-o-meter.

takes a while to get used to the old neckless pout doesn't it? it's like 'is there a bloke in the room?' oh yeah miniden, who next to shaz is like eenyweenyden. just don't bring back that hoarse cindy person, i couldn't stand two mutton-dressed-as- lambs in one show...
