Yes, the time of year has come for Nikki Sanderson to squeeze her bones into an even tinier dress than last time and attend the 'star-studded' event that is the Inside Soap Awards.
And the winners are: -
Best Actor - Nigel Harman (Dennis, EE) For a soap he didn't feature in for the majority of the year
Best Actress Sally Lindsay (Shelley, Corrie) Fair enough - willingness to wear that Hellraiser eye makeup was reason enough for nomination alone
Best Bad Boy Bill Ward (Charlie, Corrie) Or was it the collection of H&M tight t-shirts that did it?
Best Bitch Kate Ford (Tracy, Corrie) Surely Chrissie was bitchier. Patsy Kensit, as always, tries her best, but that's a face for selling peas not plotting the downfall of soap dynasties.
Best Family The Dingles (Emmerdale) the Millers(ee)
Best Storyline Den's murder (EE) Yeah yeah yeah.
Best Couple June Brown & John Bardon (Dot and Jim, EE) An oasis of decent writing in a gangster desert
Best Newcomer Antony Cotton (Sean, Corrie)
Young Actor Charley Webb (Debbie, Emmerdale)
Funniest Star Antony Cotton (Sean, Corrie)
Sexiest Female Samia Smith (Maria, Corrie) In your face, Nikki Sanderson!
Sexiest Male Nigel Harman (Dennis, EE)
Best Dressed Tracy-Ann Oberman (Chrissie, EE) Surely she deserved better than this
Best Soap Eastenders For the ninth consecutive year. No.

EastEnders wins Best Soap this year of all years? I cry phixx. It's madness. It's recovered a bit in the past few months, certainly, but it plain doesn't deserve to win.
And with the best will in the world, Nigel Harman winning Best Actor is equally ridiculous.
Would loved to have seen Tracy-Ann Oberman get Best Bitch, though. I think she deserved it more than Kate Ford.

Someone on Digital Spy pointed out that Inside Soap's readership is mainly in the 18-35 bracket, which in which Eastenders is the most watched soap.
Just because it's popular doesn't make it right.

I like how there's a comment over on Digital Spy that the "SOAP PENDULUM HAS MOVED" and EastEnders is the nation's favourite soap again. Considering it won this award last year and then proceeded to have one of its worst years in recent memory, I think declarations like that are a tad premature.
What concerns me is that this might be seen as encouragement in the wrong sense. If we end up with more gangster storylines and tedious love triangles that go on FOREVER and resurrection of previously-thought dead characters which are so unsuccessful that the character is killed off again nine months later...well, we know where to point the finger.
(I'm an Inside Soap reader, by the way, and I've never been much of an EastEnders fan. But then I didn't vote in the awards.)

What concerns me is that this might be seen as encouragement in the wrong sense. If we end up with more gangster storylines ... well they've got rid of Johnny Allen & his wife (No word yet on Ruby.) ... well Kat & Alfie have gone too. ... well the Mitchells are all coming back and I don't think they'd admit to cocking bringing back old characters again so they'll be here for ages. And in 6 months time when Sharon comes back single, Phil & Grant will probably have a tedious love traingle that goes on forever and so the cycle begins again.

Can't help noticing there was no award for Stacey either.
