Tina Fey did write quite a few episodes of the show, to my recollection. IMDB reckons she wrote (or co-wrote) eight episodes of the first season, which is quite a lot considering she's also the star and executive producer.
That said, I do see where you're coming from, in that Liz Lemon is the closest thing to a straight man (comic-style, I mean - it does of course have heterosexual men) this show has. As a rule Alec Baldwin gets all the best lines, but Tina Fey can still deliver a corker when her moment comes. My favourite was when she was on the phone to the florist: "You know what? I found the card, and it turns out they're from your mom, so tell your gay mom I said thanks!" Oh, and her delivery of "yeah, suck it, I do read the paper" in 'Hardball' was priceless.

Tina Fey also wrote Mean Girls which had lines like "My breasts can always tell when its going to rain" and "If you're from Africa, why are you white?".
I do like Jenna best. She was great in the first few episodes of Season 2 when they actually gave her something to do.

My little six-year-old sister has a black classmate. The girl is called "Whitney". 'Wit' is 'white' in Dutch. Hence her serious question: 'Why isn't she called Bruinie [Brownie]?' Carry on.

Jenna: What's too old? Jack: That's a very good question. How old are you? Jenna:I'm 29. Jack: What year were you born? Jenna: 1977. Jack: When did you graduate high school? Jenna: '94. Jack: When do you turn 40? Jenna: 2017. Jack: Junior high crush? Jenna: Kirk Cameron. Jack: Prom theme? Jenna "Motown Philly" Boyz II Men. Jack: What movie did you lose your virginity to? Jenna: Arachnophobia. Jack: Theater or drive-in? Jenna: [pauses] What's a drive-in? Jack: Of course. I don't know why I bothered to ask. I can tell just from your physical appearance that you're obviously...29.
A-ma-zing.

Jenna: [pauses] What's a drive-in? It was that line that made it art. I wish they'd hurry up and release season two on DVD. I'm buggered if I'm waiting for Five to show it.

I just got round to watching the final episodes of this tonight and am devastated at how well they managed an upbeat ending that felt definite and left no real chance for the show to return. If it had dipped in quality at all, maybe it might have been easier to bear, but it's been consistently amazing so I feel absolutely bereaved.
Did anyone else watch past the first few series? I don't know if it was even shown over here which is a travesty in itself when we get How I Met Your Mother/Two Broke Girls rammed down our throats by E4 every bastarding day.
Too many great quotes to mention, but my recent favourite has to be: "Vaginal mesh. Nice try, prolapse."

I'm somewhere in the middle of season six. I gave up trying to follow it on Comedy Central in the end, their scheduling of it was absolutely abysmal.

I didn't even know Comedy Central were showing it, which speaks volumes for what you said about their scheduling. It genuinely baffles me that 30 Rock was never really a 'thing' over here, the humour translates to UK audiences much more naturally than something like My Name Is Earl. I suppose I shall have to content myself with demanding people borrow my DVD boxsets to spread the good word.

Comedy Central kept moving it around the schedule, putting it on hiatus mid-series, and they made a trailer to promote its recent recently where they spelt Tracy's name wrong and referred to the main character as "Tina". I think it's safe to say that they didn't exactly consider it a priority. Comparing it to the treatment they give Whitney, just to pick an example out of thin air, is enough to make me weep.
