Cameron MacIntosh was such a little bitch with his sour grapes:
'I'm thrilled for Jodie - congratulations' is really sticking in my craw.
I'm really glad to have a LowCulture friendly reality winner for the first time in ages but I'm sure McIntosh is furiously having the scripts rewritten, maybe giving Nancy the role of selling ice-creams during the break. She won't get a staff discount though because he thinks she's a fat bitch.
I'm confused about the six month period...does Jodie go back to Blackpool and apply for a job at the Pleasure Beach until October or is she in the employ of the Oliver production now?
If they have a half year rehearsal time, is there a problem with someone's connection certain lyrics, or dancing ability that won't be ironed out in that time? Chief Storyliner Tointon could probably cut a believable Nancy with that amount of work.
I believe Jodie will be fucking amazing! After all we've said about them...Barrowman and DVO hugging to celebrate Jodie winning was well cute.

Cameron MacIntosh was such a little bitch with his sour grapes: 'I'm thrilled for Jodie - congratulations' is really sticking in my craw. I got really wound up by that as well, it was such a snarky little move. If he didn't trust the judgement of the voting audience, then he should've gone out and cast Nancy the regular way. And frankly, he'll sell a shitload more tickets with Jodie than he would have with Jessie. I'm glad it's all over though. Not just because I was getting a bit bored, and because the right winner has been chosen, but because I'd have put my foot through the telly if I had to hear "Oi just come from a small town in Oireland" one more time. It really was this year's "I used to work in a supermarket." (c) Keith Jack 2007 And finally, now that the moment has passed and I'm unlikely to get told off for adding fuel to the fire, I'd like to point out that pages 19 - 22 of this thread had me in absolute hysterics. The defining moment was Steven's "Can we stop poking the troll?" comment, which actually prompted a colleague to ask me if I was alright.

Re the 6 months till opening- I read in a tabloid yesterday that she will "only" be paid £600 per month with an apt paid for in the west end and her 30K per year salary will only begin when she starts the show (pardon my maths but isnt £600 per week about the same as 30K per year?).
Anyway, the slant of the story was that Jodie would have to prove herself if she is to step out on stage as Nancy!!! She was the clear winner, she has nothing to prove.

I have a friend who works in Theatreland and won't hear a bad word about Cameron, but even he was disgusted at his treatment of Jodie. It wouldn't surprise me for a moment if Jodie only got to do a few performances a week and the role recast. He might be shocked at how popular she is though.
I've never felt the need to see 'Oliver!' but with Jodie in it, might actually go and see it. Had Jessie won the role there was no chance of that.

£600 a month is rubbish, but if she's getting her flat paid for, it's not that awful. It's not like she's going to have any time to spend money or do anything. Cameron's probably already got her on a treadmill, because god forbid we have a fat (read: perfectly average size) Nancy.

£600 a month doesn't sound like a lot, but she's clearly not in it for the money.
I don't know how Cameron can be moany about Jodie, surely it shows he doesn't know it all. What if he chose the winner and no-one showed up, wouldn't that have been awful.

I wonder if Jodie's "paid for West End apartment" is the one she, Jessie, Rachel and Sam stayed in the night they all had to do a bit of Method-Nancying...

I am 95% sure it was £600 per week. In retrospect it probably said per month. Oh I wish I never said it now because my grasp of the tabloid facts is so week.
Anyway, the story just sounded like bollocks to me but it was definetly part of this conspiracy to make it look like Jodie being chosen as Nancy was a mistake.

It wouldn't surprise me for a moment if Jodie only got to do a few performances a week and the role recast. Well, seeing as they've already said that the winning Nancy is only confirmed to do Monday, Tuesday and Friday nights, and Wednesday matinees, I don't think that's beyond the realms of possibility.

Did they not announce with Maria that the winner would only be doing a certain amount of shows, with the professional actress hired for the other nights, only for her to leave when Connie's appearances were increased?
I imagine a lot of the people who have bought tickets already will be very angry to find out that they're not getting THEIR Nancy. Whether they do anything about it is another matter.
And regarding the wages paid to Nancy, I was reading something recently that said Bill Kenwright was being attacked by Equity for paying his casts the lowest salaries in the West End. The reports say that the minimum wage is £500 per WEEK, so Jodie won't be surviving on £30 a day.

Re Emma Williams/Connie Fisher - I think it was originally supposed to be four/four, which was altered to two/six when people started kicking up a fuss, and then Emma Williams said fuck this for a game of soldiers and quit before it opened.

Nancy is such a minor roll in Oliver- someone with 6 months to rehearse could easily do the job evernight- it isnt Evita!

Yes, they changed the website yesterday, yayz! Also, they're holding open auditions for Dodger and the urchins on June 14th.

£600 per month sounds too little, it must be per week. The Equity minimum for working as an actor in the West End is £381 per week and they want to increase that to £550 so I'd imagine that it's £600 per week as £600 per month would be illegal. (yes I did read the Stage whilst standing in Smiths last week)

She was also on BBC News 24 last night, but unfortunately I was in a bar and the sound was off, so I didn't get to hear what she had to say. She looked lovely, though.

Burn Gorman as Sykes isn't bad. To be fair Jodie looks like she could have him, but there are very few people who could be cast where I wouldn't be convinced that Jodie could beat the shit out of them, and he does vicious quite well.
To be honest I'm just relieved they didn't use the crap Dodger that was on the Oliver mission.

Jodie said on BBC Breakfast that rehearsals don't start until October - I wonder what she'll be doing until then? They'll probably get her trained up for it anyway, start giving her proper singing/acting lessons, I should think - to make sure she can cope with the demands of the live performances.

In some ways it might be good to have a gap, to avoid the health problems Lee and Connie came across.
CamMac is probably starving her in a dungeon, though.
And those West End pay rates are pretty darn good, maybe we should all consider a career change.
