Hello dolly! I really enjoyed Kym's little turn tonight, for a horrifying second I thought they were going to play her singing 'Time After Time' over a montage of Mike Baldwin in the rain but luckily they saw sense.
I wonder if her contract will be renewed after her 4 episodes - she's been all over the press saying she wants to become a regular, a "gutsy lady" in the style of Bet Lynch or Karen McDonald. Suppose someone's got to bring a regular wage into the Marsh/Ryder household.

I did love the line, "I've never really done this before", meaning an audition. Although I think they could have made that a bit more obvious.
I thought both episodes last night handled comedy and drama / tragedy very well. And with a Mike-as-King-Lear scene, I'd go as far as to say that Coronation Street is the modern equivalent of Shakespeare.

I wonder if Kym insisted she got to sing an entire verse and chorus before they cut her off.

Is anyone else thinking that she's not as horrific as we were expecting?

I subscribe to the somewhat controversial point of view that there's nothing actually wrong with Kym Marsh at all. She's just one of a great many unfortunate people that the tabloid press has decided should not be allowed to have a career, and people just believe it cos they're too lazy to have their own opinion.

That's such a good way of putting it, I'd never actually thought that through so clearly before! This isn't really the place to discuss this but I feel so sorry for the likes of Lisa Scott-Lee, Dannii Minogue, Kym Marsh etc who have had a taste of fame and success and are then expected just to give up and are belittled in the tabloid press at every turn for daring to try something new. Back on topic, I think that is Kym's 4 episode contract up - wasn't much of a part for her really (Liz McDonald's love rival, I don't think so!) but I wouldn't be surprised if she came back and ended up with Steve.

Hmm, this could be the Corrie 'if in doubt' tactic. If in doubt. Eastenders - shag Phil Mitchell / rubbish gangsters Hollyoaks - rape Coronation Street - pair them off with Steve McDonald I didn't see this so I'll reserve judgement on Kym. I will, however, say that I have very little patience for people who think they their 15 minutes give them an unending entitlement to fame a la Martine 'what are you for!?' McCutcheon.

I agree with you, Martine McCutcheon can fuck off (and this is from someone who foolishly bought her first 2 albums!) I meant more that Kym Marsh, for want of a better example, is criticised no matter what she tries to do because of the baggage that comes with being in Hear'say when in reality she is a performer and is just trying to earn a living. It would be like if I went for a job in the "real world" and was laughed at because of a job I did 5 years ago, no matter whether I was qualified or experienced. That all came out a bit garbled but I know what I mean!

Apparently she's got a part as a regular in the new E4 Hollyoaks show 'In the city' which replaces the dire 'Let loose'. They've got ex Hollyoaks writers working on it so it should be better this time around, though, alas Lisa and Ben are still in it.

Nooo! Anything but Lisa and Ben!!!
Although on the plus side I suppose I can laugh at Lisa's new ill-advised 'Kaplinsky' do and comedy breasts.
I will have to watch this because Philip Olivier is in it.

Oh no. Her hair is way too dark / classy for Hollyoaks. They'll probably make her dye it blond.

'Hollyoaks Let Loose' brought new meaning to the phrase "unwatchable garbage", I think I stuck with it for 3 episodes before realising I would rather gouge out my eyeballs.

Apologies I meant ex 'Coronation street' writers. If I had meant ex 'Hollyoakes' 'writers' I would have meant sarcastic.
Also apparently Gemma Atkinson is seeing Wes Butters (remember him, he got hyped up as the savior of radio 1 (again) then got bumped off the chart show last year) which is funny because i always got the impression he was having some kind of torrid love affair with Scott Mills.

I see she's back with a family in tow. "A Coronation St family for the 21st Century, who while they're not out-and-out villains, they're only just on the right side of the law." Sounds more like an Eastenders style family. Don't they realise on Corrie we want strong female characters, not some sort of second rate gangsters.
I also see she's calling herself Kym Ryder.

She's doing alright, though it worries me that she/they are going for Karen McDonald mkII. Maybe it's just because she's blatantly ganna shack up with Steve and be at loggerheads with Liz.
