Before BB5 started I was all Well, if it's just going to be wannabes shouting at eachother it sounds disgusting and I know that I won't be watching.
I am excited about tonight's eviction.

This is the first BB I've ever watched more than about ten minutes of, possibly because the b/f insists on having it on. Enjoying it more than I would like to, as taking the pompous moral high ground in the office can be quite fun.
I'm going to be contentious as well and say Dan should win. I like him, he should stay.
Am I right in thinking, though, that there's next to no chance of anyone of the shower in that house forging a viable crap career out of it afterwards? It just seems to be a given that 15 mins is all you get these days.

Despite what people say about Dowling and Lawler being successful*, BB is pretty much the mark of death for any aspiring media darling. Goody's done well out of it -- she's a millionaire at least -- but at what cost emotionally? Is she happy? She doesn't seem it.
Not one person has gained anything from the experience.
Which makes watching it all the worse.
*Porn Idol at GAY and Footballer's Wife, respectively.

Well, people might not have achieved lasting fame out of it, but they might have something else. More self-awareness? Self-confidence? New friends? Who knows?

But isn't fame everything?

not Big Brother fame, they only have 'power' (such as it is) over us, the viewing public, when they are unaware of how we see them, in the house. As soon as they come out and find out, it diminishes their appeal, as far as I am concerned.
Also, (apart from most of the first BB housemates) they all appear to be wannabe TV presenters or porn stars.. Having the BB sword hanging over your head for the rest of your life is not a good thing. People will not take you seriously again. Ever.
I hope this makes sense!!?!

I was thinking this about Nadia.
If they way she is acting within the house is anything to go by, she's not entirely comfortable with opening up to others and revealing her past. Not should she have to -- the point of a sex reorientation is that you want to live in the way you feel inside but outside, you'd want to not forget exactly, but draw a line under your previous sex. In this country at least, Nadia will never be able to do that. She's always going to be known as 'that tranny off Big Brother', which is a stigma she is obviously uncomfortable with.
So why go on the show?

Its good how the person who has made the most money from Big Brother is the person with the lowest amount of intelligence, charisma and style.

Marco was going to be a lawyer, where that's concerned no-one was ever going to take him seriously so Big Brother will be a good thing for him, if at least a convenient excuse as to why no-one hires him.

I wonder how Sunita is getting on in her law career after her "I'm not getting in a drawer" incident and walking out of the show. I did have a brief phase of thinking it would be great to be on Big Brother but it can be hard enough to make people take you seriously without having had your entire life and bad habits exposed to the nation.

He was sooooo boring, but I would say that Craig from BB1 seems to have done quite well. He was never into the fame anyway - he just wanted the cash to save his neighbour's kid from a slow death at the hands of the Nazi NHS. He got a daytime DIY show and has been immortalised on Bo Selecta. He seems rather happy. If he wanted to go back to his old job as a builder, his BB forays wouldn't harm him at all.
Craig: he's a postmodern media genius. Who'd have thunk it?
On the subject of BB hypocrites, I come across them all the time at work. They all want the juice on the tray-thowing and nude-lawnmowing from me though...

I suppose to some extent big brother is very sad. We're watching all these people be humiliated and affected for us. Just before this BB started, Dean off BB3? 4? was it released a book and wrote an article for media guardian saying how the majority of the housemates were unhappy with the way that they had been portrayed. Big brother gives you a sort of fame that most people can only dream about, but then I'd assume that most people would realise that more than likely the BB production team are going to show your worst bits rather than your better bits. I think that to some extent I do want to be famous but BB would be the last thing that i went on as I couldn't stand the way that all my faults would be magnified.
I think Sunita is probably not doing badly with her law career and the fact we don't read anything about it must suggest that she's not in the public eye. I think she did very well.

Marco was going to be a lawyer. Marco never had any intention of being a lawyer, he's just studying law because Legally Blonde inspired him to. In terms of celebrity and clout, I could sort of understand people expecting that if they applied for Big Brother 1-3, but not since then. BB3 made it clear that the contestents were there to be humiliated wherever possible, and as mercenary as this sounds, anyone who has since applied for Big Brother in the belief that it will make them a successful media darling deserves every(no)thing that's coming to them. Going back to Sunita, I met her once and she was lovely. She signed an autograph and gave me a kiss, and was a far nicer person than Jonny or Kate, who were in the same room.
