Do you know I was left feeling really uncomfortable watching Brigitte's suffering last night.
And Davina's interview with Germaine last night made me a bit angry with Big Brother. Their defence is "we told them to expect the unexpected". I don't think "the unexpected" includes moving a member of your extended family in who hates your guts and hasn't spoken to you for 20 years.
There was a time when Big Brother was about people having fun. Now it is about mental torture.
Is the torturing of people for the sake of entertainment unethical? Are the support groups so that I can try and get help with not watching it?

I know what you mean. Davina was totally on-message in a scary true 1984 stylee, and Germaine was spot on when she asked if they would airlift her own mother into the house from her nursing home just because it is "unexpected".
It could be argued that Big Brother now is just staying closer to the Orwell text.

Germaine at a press conference, after leaving: I love Germaine Greer, I really do. -A I think she is pretty cool as well and agree to some extent about the whole mother-in-law thing being wrong, but I think she weakened her argument by going on about bullying John. Sometimes people deserve to be wound up - and it's quite obvious he craves that sort of attention anyway. And as the guy on CBBLB said tonight, it's strange how Germaine claimed that she made decisions and stuck with them just as she backed out of the earlier decision to go in the house. And while I'm on the subject, let's just ask again WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING IN THE FIRST PLACE! But yeah I agree with trollte, they should lay off the mental torture a bit - and let any petty tensions and so forth germinate from a group of strangers rather than people with history.

Yes, I'm glad Germaine made a stand and left, but I agree that it was a strange decision of hers to join the show in the first place. I mean, I can guess why she did it--wanting to beat a system she hates from within, experiencing something she abhors to see if she get through it/learn something new about it--but I wish she'd spell it out.
I loved how she talked about herself in the third person.
This isn't about what'll make Germaine stay. Germaine isn't staying. Get it?
Dear Germaine,
Please run for Prime Minister.

I think Germaine's arguments for leaving were very lucid and relevant. She made a mistake in trying to see the good in Big Brother I think. As she said, she didn't realise what mental squalor it would be. There was a chance that it wouldn't be mental squalor, but as soon as she was crawling through a skip of fag butts and alcohol I think she must have realised what she was in for. She was naive to think this wouldn't happen, but that's only because she wanted to see the best in it. Not such a bad thing and certainly not deserving of the aggro she's had. Not being a party to Brigitte's suffering was Germaine's equivalent of switching off the telly. I applaud Germaine.
