Kelly is really underused. She's like the new Violet or something.

A few days late, but the bookie father getting his son to change his story on Steve was a great scene. This was also first time I've bought them as father and son.
"Goin' Back", the song Michelle wants for her wedding, is my favourite Dusty Springfield song. I never hear that song mentioned anywhere, so now I automatically have to like Michelle more. Of course she's not too bad these days anyway, so it's not difficult.

I love the Morton mum. It's nice to have a bit of a baddie who isn't a psycho or your typical 'I'm being bad and I know it' conniving bastard/bitch. I kinda like she's this amoral creature who acts like her bad behaviour is everyone elses fault. Also she's made Mel interesting at last, they're great together and despite the fact the basis of their relationship is they don't have a relationship they are really convincing as a mother and daughter.

I only caught up on this weeks' Corries today, and I'm still reeling from this conversation:
Michelle: "Guess where Dan's going?" Lloyd: "Fuengirola Poly, to do a sandwich course in mathematics".
Would that be the same Fuengirola Poly where Wicked Cousin Jerez did a sandwich course in computing after he mended his wicked ways in Acorn Antiques?

Eileen bought that copy of 'Her Choice' magazine that Norris was secretly reading a few episodes back!! I'd love to get a proper close up of it and find out what was "SAVAGED!" Failing that, I hope we continue to get lots of close-ups of Liz and Vernon's wedding portrait. Lots of good comedy moments tonight, I love Corrie when it's low on plot and big on character.

I agree. Its the details that make Corrie great, not sensationalist storylines or the lark.
Although I wish Claire would spontaneously combust, taking Sally with her as the Houseswapping storyline has driven me to the brink of despair (read as: watching Take The High Road repeats on Life One)

The friendship between Carla and Michelle is great on several levels. This brings out Carla's nicer side and Michelle's tougher side, gives Carla something to do besides obsess over Liam, and there's the current dilemma of Carla helping Michelle find out Steve's adultery while Carla had an adulterous fling with Michelle's brother. I'm glad they're giving Tony something to do, but I hope this story will have more layers than just the out of town bully the locals unite against or the outsider who becomes a psycho. Claire's comment to Ashley must have been the first time Irma Ogden was mentioned in decades. When I saw some of those old episodes, Irma seemed like a great character. I don't know if the actress is still alive, but I wouldn't mind seeing her come back for a few episodes. They're bringing back Jed Stone for a storyline: www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1029046/Coronation-Street-Sunny-Jim-Jed-Stone-makes-dramatic-return-Weatherfield-42-years.htmlI can hear Minnie Caldwell trilling about "Sunny Jim". Of everyone on the show now, I guess only Emily and Ken would remember him.

What did they say about Irma Ogden? ? I loved her, how was she mentioned? Claire found a potentially very expensive painting in Sally's and Kevin's old house. The painting belonged to the Ogdens. Claire found a letter which was addressed to an Irma Ogden. Cilla is coming back for a DVD release: www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/a103856/cilla-makes-corrie-dvd-comeback.html

Call me slow but is Bruce Jones (Les Battersby) gone for good or is he on a "break"?

I think he's gone for good.
There were more Irma mentions on yesterday's show, mostly from Ken. Sometimes I forget Ken ever had a family.
I agree with what cathybradford said about Teresa Morton. When they take her out of dumb stories like conning Lloyd, she's much more believable as the typical monster who always has someone else to blame. I was cringing when she grabbed Rosie (and what the hell was Rosie wearing) and followed it up by a slanging match in the street with Sally, but I can't say it wasn't entertaining.

I only caught the first episode of tonights and it was great. One of those not much happens ones that Corrie does so
The scene with Mama Morten watching Jeremy Kyle was brilliant and the Peacocks and The Websters need to live together forever.

I'm so excited about Kenneth Cope's return! I loved* him in Randall and Hopkirk, and he was one of the very few good new characters in Brookside's final days.
Mama Morton is seriously growing on me, especially in her interactions with Sinbad; it's almost a shame they'll be leaving. Almost. Is Mel going to leave before the rest of them? These episodes seem to be building up to her buggering off to police college rather than living with her mother any longer.
*by loved I mean developed a serious crush on him and his 60s hairdo.

Who was his character on Brookside? Teresa's arrival has been great for Mel, because it explains so much about her. She's very abrasive, but she's also the only one in her very weak family who sees through her mother. Marcus is back onscreen again, and again with very little to do. Almost as compensation, there were several bum shots of Marcus and Jason in the first episode. Michelle was on a rampage, but the comedy moments (especially that woman in the back of Lloyd's cab) were a good balance. Jane Danson was wonderful when Michelle was tearing Leanne apart. I'm not sure why I was surprised, I guess I just didn't think of her as being that good. Dan (Matthew Crompton) is going to be on the next Dancing on Ice with a billion other soap names: www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article1351958.ece

Who was his character on Brookside? Kenneth Cope had the role of "comedy pensioner" in the last few years (see also: Harry Cross and David "Bing" Crosby"). He ended up marrying that woman who wasn't Sheila Sabatini on Surgical Spirit and therefore, through no fault of his own, became related to Jennifer Ellison. Agreed about Josh larking about in front of the camera with Sally and Rosie; it was unbelievably cute!

I know. Those shorts did Rosies thighs no favours. I don't know if I'm just out of touch with what the kids are wearing nowadays, but I didn't realise the slutty Dexy's Midnight Runners look was in. The denim dungaree hotpants made her look like she was auditioning for a porn version of the Come On Eileen video. Apparently, Dev is going to get an actual storyline soon, so I hope the producers can see their way clear to giving Amber something to do too. She's far too good to be restricted to pining after David Platt.

Re: the Sun story - Jerry's going out in a box, isn't he? Even if Teresa fails to kill him - and given the rumours about Liam's exit, I think it's unlikely - this whole heart attack storyline seems to be a big pointer that he's going to that great kebab house in the sky. Poor Vernon tonight. I am totally with Liz on finally dumping the drippy drummer, but his collapsing face was incredibly sad. And if I were Sally, I'd have kicked Claire in the crotch. Repeatedly.

But Katy Harris killed Tommy Harris when they lived there! And Tracy Barlow killed Charlie Stubbs when they lived there! Bit of a theme emerging (if this Morton rumour turns out to be true, and it would be quite good if it did). Best bit of the whole show last night: the completely pointless but brilliant barely-even-a-scene where Kevin absent-mindedly ambled across the road to his home of over twenty years and tried his key in the lock before remembering that he didn't live there any more.

Corrie seems to be very good at those small comedy touches. I know this wasn't a small touch, but I laughed at Becky wearing a fancy gown and then underneath was a tacky orange bra.
It's just a silly comedy story, but I still wondered a few times why Sally hadn't watched enough of the Cash in the Attic/Bargain Hunt shows to know old concert programs can be worth big money.
I'm glad they had Liz choose not to cheat with Harry, with her marriage to Vernon instead failing in spite of their best efforts to stay together. The story doesn't have a horrible husband or a wretched wife, just two people who shouldn't be together. It's refreshing.
