I loved Ken, Deirdre and Roger, but the Morton stuff was just tedious. Even though Sinbad is the most likable of the family, I couldn't bring myself to care. "Too little too late" is exactly right.

I noticed Deidre doing a strange limp as she walked down the street to the Rovers the other night. Has the actress been ill?

I'm not a fan of The Morton Family at all, but I think Darryl is really good.

Darryl really is quite good compared to the rest.
When dreary Mel said "Am I boring you?" to Daz I couldn't help think "you're boring ALL of us, love."
Tina on the phone to Ted was ace.

With hoodies who also star in school plays, the time must be right for a West Side Story interlude.
I'm not sure why, but the part I enjoyed the most was when Kirk and Fiz were shocked about the Morton dad, and Julie said, "Who?" That and Kirk's "Lost the Plot" shirt. I have no idea how long Julie is supposed to be around, but she helps their dynamics, especially since I think Fiz tends to talk to everyone like they're stupid, so she gets to squirm when Julie does the same.
The cast interaction in these recent episodes has been really strong, proving you don't have to have a heavy storyline to positively contribute. Easing up on the drama for the Platt family has benefited all of them; it's much more fun to see them laugh and smile for a few months.
I just hope Eileen gets a good story eventually.

I enjoyed awful Gail smugly piping in about having a father every five minutes and when Audrey nervously sniffed herself when asked if she had gone for fish & chips.

Now I've seen the mother, I have a greater understanding of Strangely Old Daughter of Sinbad.

Physically, the mother reminded me of Gail's mother-in-law, Ivy.
I've started to like the bookie son, I wish he weren't leaving. You never quite know what he'll say, and I think he's one of the more attractive men on the show.
The Chesney storyline is pointless and poorly acted, but compared to the teen terror stories most soaps have going on (David, Rosie, the Beale children on Eastenders, Newt and Lauren on Hollyoaks), it's a nice change of pace.

I'm omnibusing just now - isn't it annoying that as soon as a group of characters eg. The Mortons gets the axe, they suddenly become quite endearing? I did always kind of like the son given an actual purpose, the rest of them are quite good too.
Whoever is writing this just now is obviously LOVING Audrey because she has gradually transformed into a kind of Pat Butcher/Dot Cotton/Peggy Mitchell/Val Lambert hybrid, only better.
The show is worth watching just to see her chatting to people.

Is the new Morton mum (pretty sure she's not the same actress who was in it last year) the same woman who played Louise's mum in Pulling? And playing pretty much the exact same character (i.e. a bad mother who likes a drink).

She's also the actress who took Nigel and Claire away from the square in EE. She was a mild-mannered teacher then though, I think. I'm thinking the same about the Mortons. Just warming up and they're out. Like El Dorado in one family.

Hi, Not really sure of the best place to put this message, but I'm looking for an actress who has appeared in one episode of coronation street, among some other british tv shows and films as well. Her name is Christine Anderson. The character she played in coronation street was called Alison Whitworth. Anyone know who she is or have a screencap of her or something?
Thanks

The show is worth watching just to see her chatting to people. The small talk is one of the reasons I'm enjoying the show more than the other soaps. The plots could always improve, but it's nice to hear people having conversations, instead of just yelling plot points at each other. amcfan84, I couldn't find anything. It looks like her character was Mandy's sister, a Mandy who was involved with Kevin Webster, if that helps. That thing Daryl Morton was working on at the kebab place was a bit creepy. I think it had a smiley face. When Norris showed up I thought it was going to start telling him to kill people.

You know how Sinbad's heart attack induced sympathy in the viewer, just as he was on his way out? Dan's spleen antics didn't make me suddenly want to hug him. Especially seeing his pasty body in the ambulance.
I did love Carla's conversation with Janice on the phone though. I'm glad they're making her friends with Leanne so she has someone to talk to when Liam leaves.

I found the speed she forgave Leanne laughably disbelievable.

I guess Carla is alone and unhappy, and as she saw Leanne was making an effort, she gave in.
I'm still glad the Mortons are leaving (especially with the vile mother), but I like Vernon more when they show his realisation that Liz doesn't love him or like him and she's trying to overcompensate.
I think the bookies have turned out to be a very good addition to the show. They're still not believable as father and son, but Harry works well with Liz. Dan makes Leanne more bearable, he's not a bad comedy character and he can do serious, and I liked his friendship/rivalry with Steve. They have plenty of characters who no longer seem to have any reason to exist, I'm not sure why they couldn't keep Dan around.
I wish they hadn't had Dan falsely accuse Steve of knowing he was injured, because now the focus will be more on Dan's lie and Steve's suffering than on Steve allowing a scratched car to turn him into a crazed bully.
The stuff with Becky and Jason is good so far, there's no right or wrong person, he's not being honest with her but he does seem to care for her, while she can't help being all over him because she's too insecure to give him space. I'm glad they've made a friendship between Becky and Eileen.

Real-life soap fact! The actor what plays Dan (Matthew, I think) worked in a theatre in the 1990s as a barman with the actress that plays Ian's wife in Eastenders (who is Laurie). Real-life-intersoapiality-tastic!

I remember him as Sam in The Bill. He was friends with The Lovely Cass who was murdered by that journalist's sister.

Matthew Crompton said he'll have to go back to his old job as a builder when he's done with the show. I still think they should keep him around.
Since Simon Gregson seemed unable to play a drunk scene, having half his scenes in the episode as drunk became annoying to watch.

Simon Gregson seems to think playing drunk involves just talking like a child.
He's brilliant otherwise.

Becky peeking into the cafe, with Steve peerking right behind her, was funny enough that I watched a few times. I hate seeing her friendship with Roy disintegrate, but he does have a point.
I know standing up to the stuffy outsider is part of what the factory women have always done, but I thought Janice wheeling Tony into Carla's office was a bit too far.
Carla looks absolutely gorgeous lately.
Is it just me or does Michelle/Liam's cousin look almost exactly like Sean's boyfriend Marcus?

I actually thought it was Marcus and that, because I had missed a couple of episodes this week, he was playing another character or summat daft.
Tina's dad was a bit rubbish, wasn't he? Instead of intimidating everyone round the dinner table, he just seemed to bore them to death. And why make him flirt with Gail? She has got enough on her plate at the moment as it is.
Katherine Kelly tells the Sunday Mirror today that Becky will get a Winehouse-style makeover when she becomes the Rovers' (50th!) barmaid. Amazing.

She has got enough on her plate at the moment as it is. He's not bad, but when I looked at his eyes, I thought he might turn out to be another crazy. I also thought he was what David might become in 30 years; telling odd jokes, giving odd stares. I keep forgetting Kelly is on the show, then she pops up in a random episode. Wasn't she supposed to get a big story this year, or go work at the Rovers, or something? Did they decide to give her stories to Becky, since Katharine Kelly's such a good actress?
