My dad pulled this out of his record collection the other day.
And I was ashamed to find that I actually thought that it was a very catchy song.
Brilliant!

"Your eyes are full of 'esitation"
"You try me once, you'll beg for more"
With lyrics like those, no wonder it was a hit all round Europe. Has anyone heard the Dana International version?

You should be ashamed, not knowing about the musical genius that is Baccara. If you want to up the kitsch then listen to follow up single 'Sorry, I'm A Lady'

Granada is another of their songs. It's based on a traditional spanish song and it's great.

If you want to up the kitsch then listen to follow up single 'Sorry, I'm A Lady' I would rather be, rather be, just a little shady thanks all the same... My fave Baccara lyric is from Body Talk - "you want to touch me, don't use your elbow use your hand my friend". Genius. And of course, they were the second best entry in my first ever Eurovision Song Contest too.

They did Eurovision? How wonderful. How do I get hold of that one?

Eurovision '78, the wonderful song Parlez-vous Français. They represented Luxumbourg, but lost out to Israel. My avatar is the cover for the single. The intro is spoken word, camper than multiple rows of pink tents.
Wow... hello, you are looking good, Mayte How was the island, the sun and the sea? Tell me all about it Oo... just too much, Maria It was like a dream come true Go on, I want details Where did you stay? What did you do? Who did you meet? Oh, I don't know where to start Well, the most important thing first - any romance? All right then -
Laying down by the seaside One lazy afternoon In the sun (in the sun?) Having fun (having fun?) Watching him watching me
Was his body looking naughty I thought it was too soon Oh, but then (Why? What then?) Oh, that man (Oh, that man?) Stood before me as tall as a tree
He asked me Parlez-vous français? If you do, we will be okay If not, it's all right 'Cause baby, tonight L'amour will teach you what to say
He asked me Voulez-vous dancer? If you do, we will be okay 'Cause lovers in France Begin with a dance L'amour will teach you what to say
Have you had a feeling You don't know who you are? Once you are glad (once you are glad) Once you are sad (once you're sad) That's what he did to me I'll show you Eros, the way to Paris I don't care if it's far I'll be bad (I'll be bad) I'll be mad (I'll be mad) I'll be crazy as Paris can be
They'll as me Parlez-vous français? If you do, we will be okay If not, it's all right 'Cause baby, tonight L'amour will teach you what to say
They'll ask me Voulez-vous dancer? If you do, we will be okay 'Cause lovers in France Begin with a dance L'amour will teach you what to say Olé <br> They'll ask me Parlez-vous français? If you do, we will be okay If not, it's all right 'Cause baby, tonight L'amour will teach you what to say

Parlez-vous français? If you do, we will be okay If not, it's all right 'Cause baby, tonight L'amour will teach you what to say
Parlez-vous français? Voulez-vous dancer?

Has anyone heard the Dana International version? Nope, but I'm going to have a ruddy good look for it. Goldfrapp and Sophie Ellis Bextor have both also done their own versions of it. I'm dying for someone to put an electro take on Parlez Vous Francais for this millenium. T'would be marvellous.

Yes Sir I Can Boogie's fab! I've got the extended 12" version I'm happy to admit. Plus Goldfrapp done an excellent version of it.

Must get a new copy myself actually. Am planning to launch an investigation into the 'disappearance' of the old one, to be published in about six months. It will probably exonorate the government and blame everything on the BBC.

They had a great song in Sweden's semi-finals for Eurovision this year. Hunt it down.

The Dana International version sounds like a porn-fest. Goldfrapp's version was slightly disappointing, it felt like they were being "hilarious" (erm, not really Alison).

What I love about this song is the bit in the second verse that goes:
You wanna know if I can dance. Yes Sir, Already told you in the first verse And in the chorus But I will give you one more chance
Lyrical brilliance!

The whole of the first verse should be taught in schools. I mean, really, has this ever been beaten?
"Mister Your eyes are full of hesitation Sure makes me wonder If you know what you’re looking for. Baby I wanna keep my reputation I’m a sensation You try me once, you’ll beg for more."
I must say, however, that the opening lines of Darling are also pretty breath-takingly good:
"Postcards from Amsterdam Phone-calls from Birmingham To tell me only how you miss me"
Birmingham?? No postcards??? (no offence ...)
