Oh dear. Looks like the end for Neighbours, then. Much as I love it I'm certainly not giving up Hollyoaks for it.

Five really are fucking idiots not to put it in the 5.30 slot.

I suppose I can understand that they don't want to move their news, even if nobody watches it. I'm not the most avid viewer of either Neighbours or Hollyoaks, but I do keep track of what's going on. I agree that this is really going to split the target audience...

What the hell will bbc1 do at 535pm now?? I hate to say or even think it but....Doctors??! I can see that happening actually, though they'd need to make a few changes to give it mainstream appeal. That'd mean lots of young people appearing in it over night. Actually, whilst typing that, I realised the Beeb'd probably still want another drama too, as Doctor's can't fill 3 slots a day really. I want a soap set in a glamorous Midlands hotel please.

But surely the audience for Doctors consists entirely of people who watched lunchtime Neighbours and couldn't be bothered to turn the telly off or change channel?
Horrible thought... they might replace it with Eastenders revealed type shows or, even worse, a spin-off featuring Minty, most of the Brannings (ie not Max) and comedy Ben in an attempt to be 'light'.

I want a soap set in a glamorous Midlands hotel please. The Leicester Holiday Inn would be perfect. The roof has blown off twice already in the last few months, I was spotted-then-messaged by an unseen middle-aged man off Faceparty and my friend who worked there was mildly sexual assulted so there's a few plots aready.

I am wondering what to do with my "It's Neighbours Time!" collection of clock photos from around the world now. I should make them into a tributary montage.

Surely Neighbours would win out?! I've only ever met one person who watched Hollyoaks and didn't think it was shit. And not in the comedy way Neighbours is shit, but in an infuriating way.
but then I probably know nothing about the british public.

To be fair, Hollyoaks is improving a bit. Plus it has JP.
I don't watch Neighbours, but if I did, I would't really be able to see Neighbours if it goes to five here anyway - it's really, really fuzzy as some channel (ITV2 or something like that) interferes with its signal.

Neighbours normally gets between 2.6-3 million viewers and this will probably drop as not everyone can get channel 5. Recently Hollyoaks have been getting 4 million.

I haven't watched Neighbours for years and rarely watch Hollyoaks since it turned all crap, but don't you think the idea of Neighbours with a COMMERCIAL BREAK seems abit strange.

There's going to be a backlash amongst the cast when they realise that suddenly there's not much interest in them appearing in panto any more.

This was upsetting news and I also hope it isn't put on in direct competition with Hollyoaks. 6pm would be a perfect timeslot for it.
Also, regarding what will replace it on BBC1, I have a faint recollection of the Flintstones occupying that slot in the early 80s. For at least 13 weeks a year might it be a good spot for the Sarah Jane Adventures?
