I think I have a thing for sad cover versions. I reckon Beck's "everybody's gotta learn sometime" and the Kings of Convenience doing "Manhattan Skyline" are lovely.

Camera Obscura's indie-pop-ified cover of ABBA's Super Trouper still makes me all gooey and happy-sad inside every time I listen to it.
(I'm ridiculously tempted to post a link to a nasty evil illegal downloading place so you can listen to a quality version of it, but then they are nasty and evil and bad...)

Heard Take That this morning doing a cover of "Everyday I Love You Less and Less" by the SheiBe/Kaiser Chiefs, it was surprisingly good.

Running Up that Hill by Within Temptation is by far one of the best cover versions of all time.

I think it's "when I'm afraid of everything", but my French is fairly rusty also.

S Club 7's 'Natural' was a cover of a French song as well. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=M_Aj36thQEw (Only a fanmade video though). Also oddly enough everyone knew Holly Valance's hit 'Kiss Kiss' was a cover of 'Simarik' by Tarkan, but it was also a cover of Stella Soleil's English translation of it which was released in 2001. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Ew3g49Gsk

And Neil Tennant does a tremendous version of The Smith's There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Makes the whole thing sound like a grand event. Oh! Talking of The Smiths covers, I also downloaded Muse doing Please Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want. That's very good, too. The only Smiths cover I don't mind and doesn't make me scream "Blasphemy" is Placebo's 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', which I actually think betters the original. Actually Placebo are great at covers. With all this talk of The Postal Service you may like to hear The Shins' take on 'We Will Become Silhouettes'.

The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter" is 10 shades of aceness.
Belgian popstrel Kate Ryan has found a niche of doing rather good Hi-NRG versions of French classics like Desenchantee and Libertine. Her latest is "Voyage Voyage" which I'm sure I heard that Bananarama were also supposed to be covering.
Kim Wildes "You Keep Me Hanging On"
And I've always found myself preferring Laura Branigan's "Power Of Lover" to the original. in fact the US need another Laura Branigan and her great knack for taking Euro-pop hits and having big successes with them.

Sarah Brightman also did a pretty impressive cover of Hooverphonics "Eden".

An act called Universal Poplab did a version of "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" which is rather ace.

Leona's cover of Snow Patrol's Run is rather special:
(Just try and ignore the fact that it was done on Jo Fucking Wiley's show, of course...)

30 Seconds To Mars' cover of '"Stronger" by Kanye West is quite spectacular.
